As soon as the door opened, Rosalind was surprised to find an extra desk in her office!
An office desk.
Was someone going to share the space with her? No one had mentioned anything to her.
Just as Rosalind was about to turn around and ask Mr. Wong, she hadn’t even made it out when she saw Lion approaching with a brisk stride.
“Meeting’s over?”
“Mm.” Rosalind couldn’t avoid him and just nodded with a smile.
Lion swung the lunch box he was carrying in front of her, “Here, I drove an hour just to buy this for you! Haven’t had lunch, right? This is a delicacy from Wayer City.”
“…No, thanks. I’ll just eat something back at the hotel after I’m done here; I’m not hungry right now.”
“Is it necessary to be so guarded just to eat something?” Lion blinked, feigning a hurt expression, “Afraid I might have tampered with it? I’ll take a bite first.”
Rosalind, feeling cornered, could only wave her hand dismissively, “No, it’s not that; I’m really not hungry! I appreciate the gesture, though. I’ll take it back to the hotel and eat it later.”
She knew Lion would keep talking if she didn’t accept it.
To save time, Rosalind graciously accepted.
“That’s more like it.” After saying this, Lion walked straight into Rosalind’s office and sat down behind the new desk, “I’ll be working here too from now on. Mr. Wong mentioned there are a few contracts that need signing. It’s inconvenient to take them back to the hotel, so I’ll sign them here.”
“…”
Lion was going to share an office with her?!
No, wait, why would someone like Lion need to set up an office in such a branch project?!
His intentions were clear.
“By the way, you’re going to Jingtown on a business trip next week.”
Before she could protest, Lion dropped the next bombshell.
Rosalind froze, “I planned to leave the country after finishing this project and not take on another one.”
“You’ll still need to make money even if you’re going abroad.” Lion raised his eyebrows, spreading his hands, “I have no choice. There’s no one else in the company whose due diligence I trust but you. So, for this project, all you need to do is go to Jingtown, conduct the due diligence, and write a report for me. That’s it, and I’ll also credit you in the project.”
Had it been earlier, Rosalind would have readily agreed.
After all, being credited in an additional project had its benefits.
But…
“I don’t want to go to Jingtown.”
“Is there something bad you remember about that place?” Knowing her hometown was Jingtown, Lion had assigned her the task, guessing the reason from her response, “Well then, you-”
“Never mind, I’ll go! I’ll take my two assistants with me.” Rosalind suddenly changed her mind, “I know Jingtown well, and it’s just due diligence. Send me the details of the project.”
She felt suffocated by the recent events in Wayer City and thought a change of scenery might help! Plus, the offer Lion made was too good to pass up, as they say, ‘a fool turns down money.’
Another reason was that she thought she should visit Jingtown one more time before she went abroad.
To see the places she once lived, worked, and studied.
Who knows when she would return next.
Lion made an OK gesture, his peach-blossom eyes narrowing as he smiled at Rosalind, “I have to meet with some elders from my family these next few days, so I can’t accompany you to Jingtown. Be careful over there, and call me immediately if anything happens, alright?”
