Chapter 39
DAVINA’S POV
I pushed my door open and quickly shut it behind me. I had felt anxious throughout the ride back from Robe Stone Community to the pack. Initially, I felt a connection to the wolf I kept seeing, but at the same time, I needed answers. I told Juanita to cancel today’s schedule because I still had one pack community to visit. However, I needed to inform their community leader that I wouldn’t be able to attend.
“Luna, can you please tell us what is happening?” Cassy’s voice came from the door, filled with worry and fear.
“I’m fine, Cassy. I will get back to you when I’m settled,” I responded, but she kept saying no from the door.
“Are you defying the Luna order?” Juanita yelled at Cassy, who was not ready to leave the door anytime soon. I slumped my body onto the bed, ignoring their arguments.
The only person who can provide answers is Tristan, and currently, we are not on good terms. I need to conduct my investigation secretly, but for now, I need Tammy.
“What’s going on?” Tristan’s deep, cold voice interrupts their argument, and I rush to my feet immediately.
Why is he suddenly so concerned?
I thought to myself, ‘Maybe he was just passing by.’
“Oh, it’s nothing serious, Alpha,” Juanita responded. I moved closer to my door to hear the conversation better.
“What’s wrong, Cassy?” he asked, but she began to stammer.
“Luna has locked herself inside since returning from the Robe Stone community. She has been acting strangely since our visit, and it’s two times worse than before. She refuses to say anything.”
“Did she complete today’s training?” he asked, raising his eyebrows.
“Is he kidding me right now? What does my training have to do with how I’m feeling?” I thought, feeling annoyed by his question because it was unexpected.
“Yes, she did, Alpha,” Cassy replied.
You both may leave now; she will call for you when she’s calm.
“When I’m calm?” I wondered frantically and rushed to my bed as I heard footsteps approaching the door.
“Get me the extra key to her room from mine,” he said, and my eyes widened.
“Extra what? Wait, a key? He has an extra key to my room?” I was overwhelmed with questions and had no one to answer them. That explains his sneaky check-ins at night; I often lock my door, but not every single time.
I rush to my bed before getting caught, pretending again. I adjust myself under the duvet until the door opens. I am uncertain whether to shut my eyes or open them, but ultimately, I decide to open them. His men were the first to rush in, and I turned quickly, pretending to be surprised.
Then he walked in; there was an aura around him that made him stand out any time, any day. “His fearless demeanor, along with a frigid aura of leadership, made him seem very composed.” I must admit.
I asked coldly, ‘My door was locked?’ He shut the door behind him, but at the same time, he stared at his men as they left. This left us two, alone.
“Don’t show your feelings; you’ve managed without them for a month now. Keep your face cold and expressionless.” I encouraged myself as I stared deeply into his eyes. He didn’t say a word, just looked back and forth between the two of us, and silence enveloped the moment.
“I love that you’re good at acting,” he started, then scoffed.
I chuckled, “If you don’t have anything to say, you can kindly take the exit,” I replied coldly. He paused for a while as I rested on my pillow, my eyes fixed on him.
He took two steps closer to the bed. If he had taken two more steps, he would have been a step away from my bed, but I’m glad he didn’t.
“This isn’t like you, Davina. Don’t force yourself to become someone you’re not.”
“Listen, I am only here for business. If this conversation isn’t strictly about business, then I don’t see the point. “Please take the exit you came through,” I warned sternly, and his jaw dropped. He thought I was joking. Then I warned him he wouldn’t like this part of me if I switched.
“Davina!”
“I’m right here; stop shouting my name. I can hear you, and this feels like an invasion of privacy.”
He chuckled, and I rolled my eyes. “Is this how you want it to be between us?” he asked, his expression confused.
“Was it different before?” I asked, sarcastic laughter escaping me. “What difference does it make? Wait…” I paused and arched my brows, noticing his confused expression.
“You said ‘us’? Oops! Were we being serious?” I stared at him as his face displayed a mix of emotions, but he quickly masked them.
No words, Luna. I will take my leave, he said, turning away from where he stood. I watched every step he took until he reached the door.
He gave me one last look, and I returned it with a cool gaze, just waiting for him to leave my room. But he was taking forever to go.
“Are you forgetting something?” I asked, and he nodded. Curiously, I looked around to see if he had dropped something I hadn’t noticed. When I raised my head, I realized he was in front of me.
“Take two steps back!” I shouted, furious and unwilling to engage in his mind games.
“Why?” he asked, making me scrunch my face in irritation. His green eyes held emotions; I didn’t know why I could read his facial expressions. His eyes seemed to speak words he couldn’t utter.
I sat still on the bed, staring up at him. My neck would probably hurt soon from the awkward position I was in. He leaned forward, then pulled back again.
“No, no, no. You are not doing that, Tristan,” I whispered calmly, shaking my head. My heart raced under the intensity of his gaze.
“Did you want to maintain this nonchalant attitude and act as if you don’t care?” His deep voice came out cool as usual, his breath almost touching my face.
You asked if I forgot something. I think I did.-”
“Then pick it and let me have my privacy.” I frowned as he leaned in closer, our lips touching unexpectedly before I could process my frustration.
Suddenly, my door was forced open, and I gasped, wearing a frown on my face.
