Chapter 38
DAVINA’S POV
Four Week Later.
Today marks approximately a month since I last saw Tristan. We didn’t fight; I just prefer not to see him. I only reach out when I have a difficult issue related to my Luna duties that requires his attention, and I keep our interactions strictly business. There was a moment when he seemed clueless and expressed some concern about my change in attitude. However, I owe him no explanation. His beta has been supportive since returning from his long trip and assists me in any way he can. At one point, I wished he were my mate, but ultimately, the moon goddess knows best.
Candace reentered his life, and I often saw them together. Their wild sexual relationship makes my heart ache more each day. Sometimes, I can feel his presence in my room at night, especially when I’m deeply asleep. He stayed for a while and left after kissing his daughter. One night, I caught him kissing me on my forehead, and I had to pretend it didn’t affect me, so he wouldn’t withdraw from it.
My training has been going well for the past few weeks, and the rogue wipeout was a success. I prayed for their safety, and fortunately, everything went smoothly. Today is judgment day for the pack criminals, but the pack will celebrate at night.
I stood in front of the long dressing mirror, adjusting my royal robe. On the right side of the room was a small space I created to handle paperwork and do some reading when I didn’t feel like going to my main pack office. Tammy sat in the rotating chair, engrossed in a children’s book on her tablet.
Our bond deepened over the past few weeks, and she rarely stayed in her room, enjoying sleeping next to me.
“How do I look?” I asked, turning my face away from the mirror as she dropped her tablet and glanced at me.
“You look pretty,” She giggled, staring at me with a deep gaze. “When will you be back?” she added.
“I don’t know how long it will take today, but I will rush home immediately after I’m done,” I assured her, and she nodded, returning her gaze to her tablet.
I smiled and refocused my gaze on the mirror. Suddenly, a knock came at the door.
“Come in”
The door opened slightly, and my maids entered, fully dressed to accompany me in today’s tasks.
“Luna, the car is ready,” Grady said from the doorway.
“Thank you,” I said with a smile.
I finally got Grady back, just as I wanted. I broke the rules to make it happen, and Tristan was furious about it. We discussed the situation afterward, and his beta helped him stay calm. The next day, I noticed he seemed more relaxed about everything. However, he ended up ignoring me for several days, and I did the same. The energy between us has been tense ever since that incident.
“Benedict”
“Yes, Luna.”
“You should stay with Tammy until I find a trustworthy nanny for her.”
“I don’t want Benedict,” Tammy declared.
“Oh, Carla, my dear,” I called with an apologetic expression on my face.
“It’s my duty, my Luna. I will stay back, right Tammy?” She winked at Tammy, who winked back.
“Take this with you,” Tammy said as she rushed over to me and handed me a ribbon. I smiled and crouched down in front of her. Her face lit up with a smile as she clipped the ribbon into my hair. I kissed her on the cheek, then stood up, ready for the day.
“How are you feeling about today’s community check and request for approval?” Cassy asked as we walked toward the car.
Anxious. I’m unsure of their thoughts, but I appreciate how nice and respectful the previous community was. Their representative was polite, as were the members.
“No one dares to disrespect the Luna!” Juanita’s stern voice interrupted, and I chuckled.
I understand, but I still need to be in the good graces of the people.
“It’s not about being on their good side. You are the Luna; they must obey your words, even if they don’t like you,” Juanita stated with a conclusive tone.
“You can’t satisfy everyone, Luna,” Benedict added. I nodded as I got inside the car. Grady started the engine and drove away from the pack house.
As we drove into the community, I noticed the entry banner: “Robe Stone Community of Golden Stone Pack.” I quietly surveyed the area, feeling pretty confident, until my eyes fell on a woman standing near the entrance. She was close to a car, and her intense stare was unnerving. It felt as if she could see me through the tinted glass. I quickly broke my gaze from hers and looked away.
“That was scary,” I said aloud. Cassy looked at me with a confused expression.
“What is that?” Cassy asked, attempting to follow my gaze.
“A woman was staring at me as if she could see through the tinted glass.” My voice trembled, and my palms became sweaty.
“My Luna, you are feeling anxious because it’s a new community. Take a deep breath and exhale; you will be fine,” Cassy encouraged me as she held my hands.
Our vehicle stopped, and I raised my head to look at the flat landscape before me.
“We’re here, Luna,” Cassy mumbled as she got out of the car. Grady opened the door next to me, and I stepped out, gasping at the sight of the crowd in front of me. It looked like the entire community had come to welcome me.
Oh, the Luna is beautiful.
Look at her skin.
Do you think she is nice?
Despite being uttered in a whisper, I heard their words. I smiled at them as I was welcomed by the community representative and his partner.
“Welcome to Robe Stone Community, Luna,” the young man said as he led me into their home. Grady and my maids followed us inside. Once seated, we discussed the needs of the community. It was a lengthy conversation, and we covered a lot of ground. Elders because they claimed the Alpha has not been having time for their community.
After a lot of convincing, which took some time, I was able to earn their trust. I connected many calls to the necessary workers who could get things done. I set aside my gifts for the community and prepared to say my goodbyes. Being the Luna of a large pack, akin to a city with various communities, is hectic. The responsibilities of a Luna are more draining, but I love the fact that I won’t just hold the title; I have the opportunity to fulfill my duties and attend to the needs of the pack.
“Oh, she’s here! She’s beautiful,” they whispered as I stepped out and smiled. Love them here.
She is pretending to be someone she’s not.
She is more beautiful and intelligent than the first Luna.
“I hope she won’t run away with someone like the first Luna did.
“Is she going to visit the community farm?”
I laughed as they whispered loudly, “Ignore the gossip, Luna.” Juanita leaned in and whispered in my ear, and I nodded. Grady walked me to the car through the large crowd. I waved and touched the hands of those nearby as he guided me to the vehicle. Taking a deep sigh, I turned to face the crowd.
“I would like to address the entire community,” I began, and the crowd fell silent like a graveyard.
I want to take a moment to apologize to the Robe Stones of Golden Stone. We are sorry it took so long to address the needs of the community. The Alpha has a lot on his plate, and I’m grateful to step in to take on this responsibility and support everyone in the Golden Stone Pack. I’ve discussed various matters with the community leader, and I want to assure you all that our community will be focusing on development.
After I concluded my speech, there was a loud cheer from the crowd. I smiled as I looked into the faces of the people, but one face caught my attention, sending cold chills down my spine.
The woman I saw earlier was in the crowd, wearing the same stern expression. I managed to smile, but it only made her appear meaner.
“Luna?” Cassy called, breaking my gaze as I turned to face her.
“Are you okay?” She asked and I nodded quickly. I centered my gaze back on the spot but she was not there, I searched through the crowd but there was no sign of her.
“We should take our leave now, Luna,” Juanita said, her voice reaching my ear, but I ignored her. Suddenly, I felt out of place as I stared at the black wolf in the crowd; it looked familiar. I wondered why, as the wolf continued to gaze at me and my mind began to piece together the connection.
The creature from my dream weeks ago resembled the one in Tristan’s painting. I gasped, feeling a sudden wave of loneliness; my ears seemed to stop functioning, and I couldn’t hear their cheers.
Let’s go, Luna.
Let’s move Luna.
“Luna Davina!” Cassy called as she returned to me.
“Yes,” I replied, my voice trembling. She pulled her head back, confusion evident on her face.
“Is everything all right, Luna?” she asked, her tone filled with concern.
“Get me out of here!” I demanded, feeling completely isolated from the crowd.
