Chapter 40
DAVINA’S POV
Suddenly, my door was forced open, and I gasped, my face contorted in a frown.
“Oops!” she gasped, laughing charmingly. “It’s… daddy!” Tammy giggled as she walked over to my bed.
“Do you want to kiss the Luna?” she asked, staring at us. Amusingly, Tristan was not startled, but I was. I glanced at him with a “won’t you back off” expression.
“What are you doing here, Tammy?” he asked. I arched my brows, staring at him. “It’s my room, after all.” He ignored me and still had his eyes fixed on Tammy.
“Carla said that Luna isn’t feeling well, so I came to check on her.” She explained, which made me smile.
“Come give me a hug, baby,” I said, feeling flushed. She ran into my arms for a warm embrace, squealing like the baby she was.
Tristan pulls up, keeping his eyes fixed on us the entire time.
“Daddy, will you finish your conversation with Luna?” Tammy asked.
“Oh sweetheart, this isn’t really a conversation, dear. Daddy is just messing around-
“What do you mean, I’m messing around?” he asked, a look of surprise on his face.
“Don’t act surprised, just use the exit!” I said coldly.
“That’s not nice, Luna. Daddy just wants you around.” Tammy pouted with a pretty frown.
“I’m not sure daddy wants that-
“I forgot this,” Tristan uttered, bringing his face close until our lips touched. He made it brief while I just stood still, not reciprocating the kiss.
“I will see you at the function tonight,” he whispered, giving me one last look before leaving my room.
I rolled my eyes as I watched him walk out of my room, unintentionally wiping his lips off mine. Tammy stared at me in disbelief and laughed.
“I didn’t mean to,” I said, clearing my throat. She nodded, giving me an exaggerated side-eye.
The Alpha is not wicked; you just need to give him time to get to know you. Daddy is nice, and you will love him.
“Okay, I never said he is wicked; after all, he’s your dad, and he can’t be harsh towards his own flesh and blood. I love your dad; I’ve never claimed otherwise. I just don’t like the fact that it feels one-sided, and I’m tired of having to explain and prove myself over and over again. I don’t think he’s ready to embrace the second chance he has right now. Why am I even explaining this to you? It’s not like you truly understand what I’m saying.” I scoffed, my face showing my annoyance. I settled into the soft, warm bed, and she lay down on my chest.
He asked me questions about you, and I told him that you are wicked.
“Are you serious?” My jaw dropped as I stared at her in awe. She laughed, not taking her eyes off mine. I rushed to sit up properly while she lay there on the bed, laughing so hard.
“Tammy? Is this some kind of joke?” I asked in disbelief, staring at her cute baby face.
“No, I was just joking,” she said, trying to look serious.
“Was I wicked?” I asked, trying to wrap my head around the whole situation.
I’m afraid that’s not true; I was just joking.
“How do you expect me to believe what you’re telling me, Tammy?”
“I’m not lying, Luna. I was just trying to tease you.” She pouted, blinking her eyes repeatedly. I stared still, trying to find answers, but they were as calm as before.
What questions did he ask?
He just wants to know if you are genuinely nice to me or if you’re just pretending. He asked if you treat your housekeepers well or if that kindness is just an act. Daddy was curious and asked me more questions than these, but these are the ones I remembered.
“Hmm.” I let out a deep sigh.
“You don’t have to worry too much. I said you are nice, and I would love to have you around.” She added, acting clingy as she had been for the past few weeks.
I cleared my throat after remembering why I needed Tammy. I needed to study the portrait and ask Tristan more about it without putting Tammy in a tight spot.
“Tammy”
“Huh,” she hummed, her head resting on my chest. I adjusted, causing her to shift slightly.
May I inquire with Alpha Tristan about the portrait?
“What portrait?”
“Oh, the one in his private room?” she cut in, staring at me this time.
“Yes.”
“We made a pinky promise not to let him know.” She pouted with a sad expression.
“I understand, sweetheart, and we’ve had it for weeks now. However, I need to figure something out, which is why I’m asking.”
“What is that? Is it about my birth mother?” she asked, arching my brows as I became curious about why she mentioned her birth mother.
“No, it’s not. It’s just a conversation between the Alpha and me. If it doesn’t work, I will find another way to get things done as quickly as possible,” I explained, and she made a teary face.
“He will ask how you know about it. I’m scared; I don’t want him to put me on time-out for hours.” She teared up, and I stared at her in disbelief.
I was at a loss for words because it was the first time I saw her in tears. I sighed and pulled her into my arms as she sobbed. Gently, I wiped away her tears and placed a kiss on her forehead. I realized I needed to find another way to get things done without involving Tammy or complicating the situation.
“I won’t let your daddy know about it,” I assured her. “Are you feeling better now?” I asked, and she nodded, adjusting herself.
I need to come up with a new plan or solution to tackle these dream puzzle games. I turned my gaze to Tammy, smiled at her, and planted a kiss on her forehead before adjusting myself into a more comfortable position.
