Mikayla was shocked. “Mr. Scott, forgive me for speaking out of turn, but Callie’s current status allows for utilization, not involvement.”
Jaquan poured himself a drink, his reaction unreadable. “I know my limits.”
“Ahmad has several projects with our Scott Group. He intends to hinder the development of Oconnor Group and is showing goodwill towards us. At this moment, Marilyn is our best choice,” Mikayla continued.
“I know what Ahmad is thinking. Just wait and see,” Jaquan paused, then added, “Arrange a meeting with Marilyn tonight at the Sky Pavilion.”
“Yes.”
Jaquan stopped him. “Did Callie go for the interview?”
“No, something came up with Karlie, so she requested a delay.”
“Keep an eye on it.”
Callie indeed did not go to the design company that had extended an olive branch to her. Firstly, she was delayed due to health reasons, and secondly, Regan suddenly visited, inviting her to start a studio together.
“I’ve carefully studied your design style recently. Although it’s quite different from mine, I appreciate its creativity,” Regan said with her usual air of superiority, even when extending an invitation.
Callie looked over the documents Regan brought and was genuinely interested but still had doubts. “You’re the daughter-in-law of the Ellison family. Do they allow you to be so public?”
Mentioning the Ellison family brought a flicker of discomfort to Regan’s face. “They hardly manage Isaac, let alone me.”
“This money was secretly saved up by me. I’ve never dared to touch it, just so I could have my own career. If it weren’t for the family’s downfall, the scale would be much bigger.”
Callie believed in her capability. “Why choose me?”
“You’re practical and affordable.”
Regan’s straightforwardness amused Callie. “I mean, my current status is quite awkward. Aren’t you afraid someone will be unhappy if you work with me?”
Regan averted her gaze, knowing she was referring to Marilyn. “She’s been unhappy with me for a long time; this won’t make much difference.”
Callie was still considering it. To be honest, she was very tempted. Regan would provide the funds, she would provide the effort, and Regan promised her fifty percent of the studio’s profits. Being co-owners was far more dignified than being a corporate drone.
“There aren’t many people I trust right now, Callie. I never thought you’d be one of them,” Regan said with a cold tone.
“I’m honored.” Callie put away the documents. “Give me two days to think about it; I won’t waste your time.”
The discussion was almost over. Regan picked up the coffee handed to her by a servant and looked around Paucaster Villa Complex, which was meticulously maintained with a strong family atmosphere.
“Nelson treats you well.” It was a statement.
“Whether it’s good or not, only I know,” Callie replied.
She stared at a scar on Regan’s wrist but decided not to ask about it.
“It seems someone’s dream is about to shatter.” Regan smiled and stood up to leave, but as she looked up, she saw a man walking towards them against the light.
He was tall and handsome, wearing a white shirt with the sleeves rolled up as he approached. “Regan.”
“Nelson is back.”
Nelson acknowledged with a slight nod and then looked at Callie, questioning.
“Regan came to discuss work with me. I’ll see her out,” Callie quickly stepped forward but was pulled back by Nelson.
“Wait.”
“You have some dust on your forehead.” Nelson naturally held her face and gently wiped it clean, displaying genuine tenderness that couldn’t be faked.
