“But Karlie is different. I understand her feelings. It’s because of me that all this happened. She wants to push me into the abyss. This cause and effect are related to me and also to you. We should bear it.”
Callie was very calm. Even in such a situation, she could objectively analyze the situation, showing that she was still rational. But looking at Nelson, it was clear he wouldn’t easily let go of Faithview Group or Karlie.
Nelson’s face was cold and stern, his gaze sweeping over her with a murderous intensity.
“You speak so lightly. Do you know how easy it is for someone like Baxter to kill someone? If it weren’t for me, you would have been dead long ago, dead in some unknown wilderness. There are many ways to die, and it’s not that easy. Aren’t you most afraid of pain? Why aren’t you afraid now?”
Callie was taken aback by his question, her body still trembling. Facing Nelson’s raging anger, she looked somewhat dazed.
Nelson felt his heart ache even more. He reached out and held her tightly in his arms. “Stop worrying about others, and don’t make me worry anymore.”
If you listened closely, there was still a trace of fear in his voice.
If he hadn’t asked her to attend the auction, this situation wouldn’t have arisen. Nelson regretted it deeply. Perhaps staying by his side was destined to be fraught with danger.
Callie’s emotions were complex. This version of Nelson was completely different from the cold and indifferent man she had met several times before.
It was as if his coldness had been shattered.
She calmed herself in his embrace and quickly regained her composure.
“Where’s the medicine you promised to brew for me when I left?”
The man’s body stiffened. Marilyn misunderstood the bowl of medicine was prepared for him and took it to him personally. He was angry and poured it into a flower pot.
He took a deep breath, “It’s probably cold now. I’ll have someone brew it for you again when we get back, okay?”
Callie lay obediently in his arms and whispered, “My stomach hurts.”
In fact, one of the main reasons Baxter hadn’t succeeded recently was because she had her period, which had bought her some time.
On the way back, Callie looked at Nelson’s almost pale face and hesitated several times before finally asking, “What will happen to Oconnor Group now that you’ve offended someone like him?”
She then remembered that in Nelson’s world, anything that could be solved with money and benefits wasn’t a big deal.
Sure enough, he suddenly smiled, “Are you worried about me?”
Callie turned her face away.
“You don’t need to worry about the aftermath of this matter. I’ll handle it. Today, you weren’t here, and neither was I. Tomorrow he will fall because of his own greed. Understand?”
In just a few words, Nelson spoke without any warmth, making Callie shiver involuntarily.
She was in so much pain that cold sweat broke out on her forehead.
Back at the hotel, Nelson made her some brown sugar water, which tasted a bit bitter.
Her stomach hurt so much that she couldn’t sleep. After taking a bath, Callie thought it would be better to rest in the small room.
But as soon as she walked out of the door, she bumped into Nelson coming from the study. “Where are you going?”
Callie awkwardly lowered her head, a blush spreading across her face.
Nelson stared at her for a moment before turning around. “Stay here.”
When he returned, he was carrying a basin of water. Callie looked at him in confusion. He said coldly, “Sit down.”
She smelled a strong scent of alcohol.
The door closed behind them, creating an atmosphere of warmth and tranquility.
Nelson knelt down and placed Callie’s feet in the water. “Ben taught me.”
