The current situation made it clear that he was forced to use his future and the rest of his life to prove something.
“Remember this, she is my life!”
If he touched Callie, he was threatening Nelson’s life! Nelson wouldn’t let him get away with it.
A stronger sense of fear surged forward, and Baxter’s eyes widened in terror. He was about to pay for his impulsiveness!
Callie was helped out of the villa by Kieran and got into the car. In her current state, she was not fit to walk out on her own, so she did not resist.
The cold stars twinkled in the sky as the secretary handed her a cup of warm water. “Madam, calm yourself.”
Callie took a deep breath and drank some water, feeling warmth return to her body. “How did Mr. Oconnor know I was here?”
The news shouldn’t have spread so quickly; Nelson arrived too promptly.
“The clock auction was successful. When I received the news and noticed you hadn’t returned, I asked around and someone saw you leave with Miss Sherman.”
Thoughtful, Callie nodded slightly. “Thank you.”
“It’s my duty,” the secretary said. “Madam, Mr. Oconnor is very angry.”
Callie gripped the cup tightly. She could tell he had rushed over furiously, ready to take lives. She didn’t know why, but a smile tugged at her lips.
Kieran stood by the car. “He asked you to wait for him.”
And wait she did, for a long time.
Callie sat alone in the car. Despite the warmth, she hugged her arms as if rubbing them together, still feeling cold.
She sniffled, forcing herself to swallow her grievances. The helplessness she felt earlier pained her deeply; it had been a long time since she felt that way.
When she looked up again, she saw Nelson walking out against the light, still exuding that cold aura.
He stopped outside the car, spoke with Kieran and the secretary, then they left.
Nelson got into the car, and an oppressive atmosphere instantly filled the space. Callie’s heart tightened.
He silently bent down, found a first aid kit in the car, and efficiently took out cotton swabs and alcohol. His tone was harsh. “Give me your hand!”
He was still angry. Callie’s hand trembled; she didn’t extend it nor did she look up.
Nelson’s tone grew worse. “If you don’t give me your hand, you’ll sit here all night!”
There was a long cut on Callie’s hand, still bleeding. She didn’t know when she got it. She lowered her eyes and finally extended her hand. Only then did Nelson’s anger subside a bit.
Her hand was still trembling from the fright, and no matter how gently Nelson tried to clean it, he couldn’t make it stop shaking. He carefully wiped it, feeling an unbearable pain in his heart.
“Don’t worry, he will get what he deserves. This won’t happen again,” Nelson said hoarsely.
Callie remained silent.
After a moment, she said, “Karlie brought me here.”
The man’s large hand gently applied a bandage to her wound.
“I know. We’re investigating further.”
“Her reputation has been damaged recently because of me. I hope she won’t be implicated any further. Just make a point and let it go; we will have no further contact after this.”
Nelson’s movements paused. He looked up and met her gaze.
“Do you know what would have happened to you if I had been one step late?”
He was still angry.
“I know, but you came anyway, didn’t you?” Tears welled up in Callie’s eyes as she looked at Nelson with hope for the first time. “As long as you’re here, I’ll be fine.”
