Agnes did not oppose his suggestion. Indeed, she and he were not familiar with each other, having only met a few times. If it weren’t for Bubu giving them some common topics, they would be complete strangers. Now, playing his girlfriend, if even holding hands felt awkward, the pretense would surely fall apart during dinner.
Agnes was a responsible girl who believed in seeing things through to the end. More importantly, her subconscious was leaning towards him. Even though the request was absurd, because she didn’t dislike him, she agreed almost without thinking. It was probably the craziest thing she had ever done in her life.
“Do you like listening to music or the radio?” Tom Fritz asked thoughtfully. “It’s about a 20-minute drive.” He was worried she might get bored or feel awkward.
“Either is fine,” the girl smiled, trying to keep her tone light and cheerful. Helping out like this was indeed quite awkward.
So Tom Fritz randomly played a song-
“I passed by the bridal shop with you so many times, did you ever want to pick one for me? I don’t care about its style or price, just hope that when I wear it, you are by my side…”
Hearing these lyrics, Agnes inexplicably thought of her Little Cat Mister and felt a bit sad. The deeper she thought, the more her heart ached. How regretful and sad… If only the person beside her today was Little Cat Mister.
No one knew how much she loved him. If she could pretend to be his girlfriend just once, even if it was pretend, she would feel like the happiest girl in the world. Unfortunately, he was probably already married with children… She didn’t want to ruin anything and didn’t dare to hope.
The car wasn’t moving fast. The gentle wind outside blew softly through the window, stirring Agnes’s hair and reaching deep into her heart, awakening those sealed memories. A cat could remind her of him. A slightly sad song could remind her of him too.
Tom Fritz held the steering wheel with one hand while still holding her hand with the other, occasionally glancing at her. They didn’t speak for the rest of the journey until they reached a sea of flowers that caught Agnes’s attention and brought her back from her thoughts.
This was a suburban area on the outskirts of the city. It was a niche tourist spot with quite a few visitors, mostly couples.
After parking the car, Tom Fritz let go of her hand and quickly walked around to open the passenger door for her.
“Thank you,” Agnes smiled at him as she got out of the car. Somehow, Little Cat Mister made her feel secure, and she liked that feeling. But this chemistry professor seemed to give her a similar sense of security too. It was strange.
She even thought that Little Cat Mister should have many similarities with Tom Fritz-gentlemenly, warm as jade, with excellent emotional intelligence and manners.
“Let’s go.” Closing the car door, Tom naturally put his arm around her shoulders and led her towards the entrance of the flower field.
“How did you know about this place?” Agnes asked as she glanced at him while walking. “It looks pretty nice.”
“I found it while you were trying on clothes,” he said. “It’s my first time here too.”
He had already bought tickets. “Wait here while I get them.” He let go of her hand, concerned about her walking in high heels for too long.
Tom Fritz had thoughtfully bought all-access tickets. This meant that once inside the flower field, they wouldn’t need to walk; they could take a small sightseeing vehicle that allowed them to control the speed and stop whenever they wanted.
Watching his tall and slender back, Agnes had an illusion-it was her Little Cat Mister…
