OLIVIA
Adrian dwelled extensively. He appears to have made a brilliant suggestion. Adrian might as well turn out to be useful eventually. I shouldn’t have written him off too early.
“Hold on a second, let me think about this,” I placed my hands below my jawline to deliberate on what he had just told me.
“Stay right here you two.
I’ll be back,” I implored them and went away. They kept asking where I was going. I ignored them. I was only focused on arriving at Doctor Escobar’s office. I needed his help to fetch Rene’s home address from Cyril. It would be very risky going to Cyril’s ward alone since he thinks I’m his assistant.
Luckily for me, I met Doctor Escobar at the reception.
“Olivia, what are you still doing here?” He quizzed me. He was shocked to still see me hanging around the hospital. He thought I had left already.
“I need your help,” I pleaded with him while struggling to breathe.
“You might want to calm down and speak to me. Why don’t we discuss this in my office?” He proposed.
“No, that won’t be necessary. Let’s just get it over with here,” I objected and paused a bit to catch my breath to avoid an impending cardiac arrest.
“I need help getting Rene’s home address from Cyril. Can you do that for me?” I pleaded with him.
“Why me?
You should go get it yourself from Cyril. There’s absolutely nothing to be afraid of,” he assured me. It didn’t seem like an assurance to me. It’s more like digging a pit and pushing me inside.
“You saw how he treated me the last time I was there, didn’t you?” I asked Doctor Escobar and refreshed his memory. It appears that he has forgotten so soon.
“That’s correct! Come with me,” he led the way to Cyril’s ward while I slowly walked behind him.
If I was asked to make a wish, I would choose to stay invisible to avoid Cyril’s troubles.
“Where’s Rene?” Those were the first things Cyril said immediately after he saw us walk in.
“How are you feeling now? Getting any better?” Doctor Escobar asked Cyril. He figured that it would be cool if he started by showing affection.
“Forget about me.
I will be fine.
I just want to know if you were able to get my wife,” he ignored the doctor’s act of kindness. The only name in his mouth was Rene. Each time he addresses Rene as his wife, I feel like punching him in the face. Hopefully, it would go a long way to reset his cracked head.
“That’s why we are here. We need you to help us with her address,” I chipped in. Doctor Escobar was talking too much to speak.
“Shut the fuck off.
No one asked you to speak. You’re only permitted to speak when I say so. Are we clear?” Cyril warned me. His baritone voice was enough to put me in my place. My lips were sealed for life even though I had a lot of my mind to dish out.
“You got a pen?
I may need to write down the address,” Cyril requested.
I had a pen in my pocket, but the fear of being yelled at by Cyril made me stay quiet and let Doctor Escobar handle the situation.
“Here we go,” he handed the pen and paper to Cyril to write Rene’s home address.
My wish was granted.
It was precisely what I needed. Doctor Escobar thanked Cyril as we both stepped outside. He gave me the address.
“Now you know why I needed you to come with me. Did you see what happened there? The man I married has despised me. My presence now infuriates him. Can you imagine that?” I told him.
“Ignore him.
Soon, this will be over.
Just go fetch Rene and let me handle the rest. Please be careful and stay safe,” Escobar wished me well and patted my shoulder.
With a satisfactory look on my face, I stepped outside to join Adrian and Kate.
“You got the address, didn’t you?” Adrian asked me.
“What do you think?” I teased him with a forced smile. Our last outburst still rings a bell in my ear. It wasn’t easy for me to forget about what happened and get along with Adrian so easily.
There’s still a part of me that still wants to have his ass kicked. On second thought, I felt his presence would quickly compel Rene to come with me to the hospital without creating a scene.
“Of course you did.
Your smile is everything.
You wouldn’t be smiling this way if you had missed out on it,” Adrian replied. His guess was accurate.
Even without responding to his question, the smile on my face already conveyed a thousand meanings.
“Good for you.” I frowned.
In normal circumstances, I would have applauded him for the brilliant suggestion that made me get the address I needed. Unfortunately, my ego won’t let me. Not after beefing each other recently.
Chanting his praises would equally mean that I can’t function well without him. It’s too early to make him feel special. We recently just settled our differences.
“Let’s go in my car.
You can leave us at the hospital,” Adrian suggested again.
“Why yours?
What happened to mine?”
I objected. There was no way I would let Adrian play the lead in my life for the second time running. The first one was probably and I still appreciated it. I’m not making the same mistake again.
“You win!
You can use yours while I drive behind you,” he finally conquered and went inside the car.
I knew he was upset because I rejected his offer. I was more than happy to see him that way. Letting him make decisions for me shows that am Incompetent. I’m not letting him see me that way. I’m a full-grown adult. I should be bold enough to make certain decisions for myself without the interference of a second party.
