OLIVIA
“Why are you so bothered about me now? I thought you asked me to leave and never return. That I would gladly do,” he said and made attempts to walk out on me.
“Adrian? Don’t you dare walk away from me?” I stopped him and went to meet him.
“So what now? Do you want to start another fight with me? Are you being paid to be a nerd? Aren’t you tired of throwing tantrums? Grow up already and stop acting like a child,” he made a travesty of me. His taunts punctured my head and got on my last nerves.
“I’m afraid, this child won’t let you leave until you tell her what she wants to hear,” I pulled him back.
I took out my phone and started dialing a number.
“What the fuck are you doing? I just hope it’s not what I’m thinking right now?” Adrian tried snatching the phone away from me, but I was quicker than him. I quickly edged backward to prevent him from snatching the phone away from me.
Finally, the person I called answered the phone. I had to put the conversation on the speaker to get Adrian involved. I wouldn’t want him to miss any details.
“Hello, Olivia. What a pleasant surprise. I wasn’t expecting your call.
It’s been a while. How are you doing?” A masculine voice asked me over the phone.
“Uncle Dante? Is that you over the phone?” Adrian echoed. He widened his eyes, astonishingly. I hit him hard this time. He didn’t expect the shock move I was making.
“Hey, Adrian.
Are you guys together? I thought you said you were home?” Dante asked Adrian over the phone.
“Yes, you’re right.
Olivia is currently at my place to discuss business. She needed to meet me at my place. I was too busy to step out.” Adrian lied. I applauded him for keeping what happened to Cyril away from his Uncle. I don’t want my marriage to be a topic of discussion for anyone in the city.
“Mr. Dante,” I chipped in and took over the conversation from Adrian.
“I got something to discuss with you. It has to do with the contract we signed,” I started the conversation and glared at Adrian to know his reaction. He was sweating in his underpants already. He aimed at my phone, seeking means to snatch it away from me. He had no idea that I was studying the move he was making.
“What about it?
Why don’t you come
over to the office and let’s discuss it?” Dante suggested.
“Perhaps, you should speak to Adrian about it. I guess he knows exactly what to tell you,” he added.
“Yes, that’s right.
I told her the same thing, but she insisted on speaking to you about it.” Adrian lied and saved himself from getting humiliated.
“That settles it.
Talk to you later,” Dante ended the phone.
“What the fuck was that about?” I got furious at Adrian immediately after the conversation.
“I should be asking you the same thing. What was that stunt you were pulling with my uncle?” He stood in front of me.
“Please stop, you two,” Kate stepped in as our mediator. She stood in our middle to stop us from fighting.
“Kate, step out of the way now. Don’t make me do something I will regret,” Adrian warned Kate. He made a move to hit me in the face. Luckily for me, Kate came through for me.
I went a few miles away from them to check the contract that Adrian forwarded to my mailbox. I needed to satisfy my curiosity since Adrian was hesitant to speak up.
To my surprise, the contract looks perfect. I read between the lines of the terms and conditions, yet I wasn’t able to find a fault.
“What is he up to?
I can’t seem to find anything strange,” I mumbled. I head back to Adrian immediately. He is in the best position to explain to me what he was insinuating.
“I just read the terms and conditions, and they were perfect. Can you explain to me what this is about?” I confronted him.
“Are you sure about this? There might be a mix-up somewhere. Perhaps, you missed a line,” Kate doubted me. I had the same feeling, too, until I read the contract for the second time and found nothing suspicious.
“Here, check it out.”
I passed my phone over to Kate so she could feed her eyes. I couldn’t bring myself to start explaining to her because she would never understand what I was talking about.
“Holy moly!
I can’t seem to find anything, too,” she disclosed.
“I wasn’t wrong after all. Adrian might have done something different. He should have something to tell us,” I told Kate, while my gaze flickered at Adrian.
“Jokes on you.
I played a prank on you, and you fell for it. Poor you,” he laughed just to spite us. The laughter was disgusting. It aggravated my anger.
That wasn’t funny.
Did you know how scary I was? This deal meant a lot to me, and your uncle knows that” I cautioned Adrian and made him understand how baseless his joke was.
“I apologize for the outburst. Please let me help out. I might know where to find Rene.” He proposed.
“Do you know her?” I asked, ignoring our recent outburst. I was ready to give up anything to reach out to Rene and convince her to stick to the plan. Even if it means putting away my rift with Adrian.
“I suppose I do.
Do you have her address?”
“If I did, I wouldn’t be here,” I replied harshly.
“Ask your husband about it,” Adrian suggested.
Why should I do that?
Come on, that’s absurd,” I declined his suggestion. I sought Kate’s opinion and realized she was more clueless than I was. She looked distracted. She wasn’t paying attention to us.
Look at it this way.
Your husband believes Rene is his wife, doesn’t he? Therefore, he must know her home address. Think about it,”
