OLIVIA
I stepped outside to join Adrian and Kate. As I walked towards them, I felt my heart bleeding inside of me. I lost a part of me that can never be regained anymore.
I just wanted the ground to swallow me up and end my mysteries. I lost my confidence.
I hurriedly diverted into an isolated corner a few miles away from them. I couldn’t summon the courage to go explain to them what happened, especially Adrian. He won’t hesitate to remind me that I deserve a better man like him.
Slowly, I peeped at them and noticed they weren’t looking in my direction. I read their lips. They weren’t speaking to each other either. The situation must have been so overwhelming that they could not even utter a word.
“Olivia, you can do this. Don’t subject yourself to suffering.” I assured myself with words of encouragement. I had no idea what I was talking about, but I was hoping it would be helpful. I needed all the motivation I could get.
I sighed and did a cross sign before stepping outside. I had accepted my fate regardless of what I’d been through. I hoped for the best, yet prepared for the worst that was about to happen.
“Ma’am?” Kate screamed and rushed to come meet me the moment she spotted me coming from afar.
“I knew it was you.
I saw someone peeping through that area. I told Adrian about it, and he doubted me,” Kate narrated after the warm embrace.
Before then, I wanted to run away so badly. I never knew she focused her glance in my direction, waiting for me to step outside.
Adrian remained where he was. He wasn’t certain if coming to meet me was cool knowing that I could slap him In the face.
“What took you so long? Adrian and I already planned to come to fetch you before you stepped outside,” Kate added.
Tears gushed down my eyes just as I was about to explain to Kate. I had to return to my car immediately. I rested my head on the steering wheel and wept like a child.
“Is there a problem?
What happened out there? Do you wanna talk about it? Does it have anything to do with your mood?” Kate asked me. The questions were too much for me to handle.
Slowly, I raised my head and wiped the tears off my face.
“It’s Cyril again,” I paused to wipe off the catarrh gushing out from my embarrassing nose.
“What about Cyril? What did the Doctor say?” Kate asked in anticipation.
“Cyril finally recognized me,” I revealed.
“He did?
That’s great news.
You should be happy about that,” Kate spoke out of excitement.
“You see, I felt that way too until I went to Cyril’s ward,” I added to keep Kate in suspense.
“What do you mean?” Kate’s voice skipped. She lost her tempo.
I stepped outside the car straight to Adrian. “My husband addressed me as his assistant while acknowledging Rene as his wife. What do you think about that? ‘
“Me?
Why ask me? I got nothing to say,” Adrian avoided me.
I pulled him back by the shirt. “You want to pretend you don’t know what I’m talking about?”
“Am I supposed to?
Perhaps, a bit of explanation would do,’ he clapped back at me
“Remember when you said I deserved better and I almost punched you In the face for that? Well, my marriage is on the verge of collapsing. I guess you won now,” I told him.
“Oh, about that?
I’m sorry I told you that before. That doesn’t mean you should take it out on me. You hit your husband with your car. You brought this upon yourself and should be accountable for your shit,” he blasted me.
“Adrian, leave! Don’t make me repeat myself.” I spoke softly.
“Leave now. I don’t want to do something I would regret. Get the fuck out of here this minute before it gets messier than it already seems,” I screamed with the loudest voice to the extent that the veins in my neck popped out.
“I would leave.
Let it be known that I tried my best to make it work. It’s you who keeps pushing me away. If this has got a do with the sex we had, then you are not mature enough.” Adrian mocked me.
I wasted no time to slap him In the face. “Now that’s what you get for talking trash about me. If you prove to be smart, I will hit you a thousand times on the same spot until your skin peels off. That’s not all, I would also report you to the cops for assaulting me,” I threatened him.
“This isn’t over yet because you’re going to regret it.” He told me after caressing his red chin.
“I want to see the stuff you made off.
Bring it on.” I challenged Adrian. I was in my worst behavior. I didn’t consider the possibility of convincing his uncle to pull off the deal.
“You want to wrestle?
I would grant your wish. Trust me when I say I’ll be your downfall,” he uttered what sounded like a threat.
Somehow, he got me this time. I was interested in what the threat was about just to prepare my mind ahead.
“Stop acting like a coward. Be courageous and say it to my face rather than beating around the bush,”
“You want to know? Let’s just say I will start by telling my uncle to pull the deal. How would that make you feel?” He told me. I should have known he was going to say that to me.
“You will do no such thing. We had an agreement, remember?” I reminded him.
“Agreement?” He giggled.
“Did you read the terms and conditions of the contract before signing it?” He questioned me as though he had a skeleton inside his cupboard.
My ears stood up immediately. They were alerted, ensuring that they didn’t miss sensitive information.
“What did you do, Adrian?” I dragged my utterances to enable him to assimilate better.
