OLIVIA
“Okay? Please tell me already. I am not loving the suspense,” I pleaded with Escobar.
“Can you guess?
Do you have the slightest idea what I want to say to you?” Doctor Escobar teased me with the question.
“Now you need to stop, doctor. How do you expect me to guess In this critical condition? Please tell me. I’ve lost my sense of reasoning right now,” I begged him.
“Fine! I will speak up already. I can see that you’re losing it already,” he finally agreed to spill. He wasn’t far from the truth. I was already losing it inside of me.
If he hadn’t agreed to spill, I would walk straight into Cyril’s ward to find out what the problem was.
“So, we got good news for you.” He smiled without hitting the nail on the head.
“There we go again.
What about the bad news?” I facepalm. The last time he elaborated on some good news, he still had to find a way to attach bad news to it. I don’t expect things to turn out differently this time.
“Don’t worry, no bad news this time. Isn’t that exciting?” He allayed my fears.
“Doctor!” I slammed the desk in full rage.
“Get on with it already and stop prolonging your report. I won’t forgive you if I suffer from a panic attack,” I warned him. He started pretty well when he mentioned some good news. Currently, I don’t know what else to believe anymore. His naughtiness is making it difficult for me to believe him.
“Your husband has regained his memory,” he finally revealed. I now know why he had to prolong his report. It was worth the suspense.
I hurriedly stood up. “Does that mean he now recognizes me?”
“Yes, he does.
You’re free to go see him now.” He consented and directed me to Cyril’s ward. I had to leave immediately before he was done describing. That was my fastest attempt to run.
I met Cyril seated on the bed with bandages wrapped around his head. He looked slightly different before the accident.
Just a few hours after the accident he had already lost a few pounds.
“Baby,” I got closer and hugged him.
I prayed silently, believing that he would recognize me this time.
“Olivia?” He called my name. I was head over heels. I went to the moon and back. That was the only confirmation I needed. The fact that he knows my name assured me his memory has been restored.
“Do you recognize me now?” I asked Cyril. I needed to be certain before getting my hopes so high.
“Yes, I do.
You’re my assistant, aren’t you?” He answered.
“Assistant?” I mumbled while pointing at my chest. I looked around to be certain if there was another person in the ward he was referring to.
“Why aren’t you at the company? Do you want to ruin my empire?” Cyril yelled at me. It was at that moment I knew he was referring to me.
“I’m your wife, Cyril. What in heaven’s name is wrong with you?” I cried. I was getting closer to him, and he pushed me away. “I need to see Rene. She’s my wife. You’re my Assistant. Go get her for me now,”
My heart froze up immediately after he mentioned Rene. Somehow, Rene was still infused in the affairs of our home.
Doctor Escobar walked inside the ward to my delight. His presence was precisely what I needed. He just saved himself from getting the worst humiliation of his life. I had intended to yell at him In his office if he hadn’t arrived.
“I see that you two are getting along so well. This is what we love to see,” he applauded us.
“Did you just call us couples?” Cyril interrupted Doctor Escobar and forced himself off the bed.
I tried to stop him, and he nearly pushed me to the ground.
“Olivia, is there a problem?” Doctor Escobar asked me after witnessing Cyril’s behavior.
“I should be asking you. I thought you said my husband has regained his memory?” I took it out on Escobar and neglected Cyril, which nearly made me have a broken tooth.
“Exactly what I told you in my office. Is there a problem?” He asked me. He didn’t seem like he understood what was going on.
“My husband just called me his assistant while referring to Rene as his wife. That’s what happened. I thought you said I could trust in you?” I explained with a bit of violence.
“He did?” Escobar doubted me. He still didn’t think it was possible.
“Y’all need to stop right now. What exactly is happening? Why’s everyone acting weird lately? Doctor, what’s she talking about?” Cyril focused attention on Escobar.
I haven’t cared about Cyril this way before. Our recent escapades made me understand how important he was to me. I was just too blind to see that. Now I’m regretting it.
Escobar glanced at me as we both shared a telling look.
“Now I understand what’s going on,” he whispered to me. I was elated that finally, I’ve been vindicated. Initially, he made it seem like I was losing my mind.
“Cyril, this is your wife, Olivia. We don’t even know who Rene is,” he explained to Cyril intending to convince him. It didn’t seem like it was working because Cyril wasn’t paying attention. He kept interrupting Escobar.
“I don’t know what the heck you’re talking about, and I don’t care. I want to see Rene, my wife. Can someone go get her for me?” Cyril requested.
The doctor sighed and shook his head sideways disdainfully. He now understood the message I was trying to pass across to him.
He got closer to me and whispered in my ear, “Can I go talk to you outside?”
“Hell no!” I declined.
“I’m going to stay here and see the end of this,”
“Trust me, it’s for your good. You don’t want to argue with me,” he issued the warning to me. He also made me understand the implications of standing next to Cyril, especially when it looks like he is losing his mind. At that point, I had no choice but to heed his advice.
On the verge of leaving, Cyril stopped us. He struggled to walk in our direction and stood in front of us, hindering us from stepping out.
“Before you start, I must explain to you what’s happening,” Escobar spoke first. He knew that Cyril was about to wage another war against us which might be deadly this time.
“Start talking before I lose it. I do hope you both don’t plan to abandon me here like a commoner?” He quizzed.
“Of course not.
We would never do something like that,” Escobar hurriedly debunked to vindicate himself.
“Do you mind telling me where you are going?”
“We want to get you Rene, your wife,” Escobar lied. As much as I don’t enjoy hearing him refer to Rene as Cyril’s wife, I was pleased that he was smart enough to suggest a brilliant lie.
The Cyril standing in front of me is different from the one I married. He had bloodthirsty eyes that were capable of committing murder unapologetically.
“Is that so?'” he scoffed while walking around us.
“I just hope you’re not playing games with me. You’re free to leave,” Cyril finally released after initially doubting Escobar.
We had to leave immediately before he could change his mind.
“You saw what happened out there. How am I going to get back my husband? I didn’t sign up for any of that,” quietly, I yelled at Escobar. My voice may be calm, yet what I felt inside of me was resentment.
“You know what to do
The ball is in your court.
You’re in the end position to reclaim what rightfully is yours,” he divulged. I had migraines trying to understand what he was talking about.
“Excuse me? Are you saying that to me or you’re just bluffing?” I fumed.
“Exactly what I said
If you ever loved your husband, you have to get this Rene back.” He explained.
“No way!” I refused.
“I can’t afford to share my man with another.”
“Then get ready to lose him for another woman,” Escobar gave me the coldest response ever that left me pondering. A thorough deliberation on what he said made me realize that he was making sense to me.
“I thought you were cool with finding Rene? If I could recall correctly, you were about going to fetch her before I summoned you here. Why the sudden change in mind?” He asked me. His question left me in a state of confusion.
“That’s all I have got to say for now.
It’s my duty as a doctor to look out for my patience in the best way possible.” He advised me and went away to worry about my problem alone.
Before the accident, I felt intimidated by Rene’s presence in my home. I was scared that I was going to lose Cyril. Presently, it’s not even a threat anymore because it looks certain that ice lost Cyril forever.
