OLIVIA
I was shocked to see Kate stepping out of the hospital with Adrian. Wasn’t sure if that’s what I wanted for myself.
While I demonstrated my frustrations at Adrian, I was equally disappointed in Kate for believing that she had learned her lesson.
As they got closer to me, I rehearsed the abusive words I was going to hurl at Adrian when he eventually approached me.
“What is he doing here?” I asked Kate immediately they showed up.
“Don’t worry, I got this,” Adrian interrupted Kate the moment she wanted to speak.
“Before you get pissed off, this has got nothing to do with Kate. It was all my idea,” Adrian hurriedly vindicated Kate, knowing I was going to berate her for going against my orders.
“Who cares?
I wasn’t talking to you. The last I checked, you aren’t my assistant. So back off!” I ignored Adrian and made him look stupid.
“Over to you, Kate.
Why’s Adrian here? Do you ever learn from your mistake?” I blasted Kate just when she thought Adrian had vindicated her.
“I tried to make him go away, and he refused and insisted on helping out,” Kate explained.
“Help out?
I still don’t get it. I can’t recall seeking anyone’s help, let alone Adrian’s. So, tell me, what help are you talking about? I might be missing something,” I scolded Kate.
She further complicated her situation with her delayed response which got on my last nerves. I had to step down from the car. I wasn’t comfortable with her silence anymore.
Immediately Adrian saw me approaching Kate, he stood in front of me and stopped me.
“I won’t let you do this to her,” he said to me and formed a shield to prevent Kate from my venom.
“Get the fuck out of the way. This isn’t about you. I got no business with you,” I warned Adrian. I wasn’t terrified by his seductive glance anymore. He thought it was going to neutralize my ego and make me vulnerable. He had no idea that I had already overcome the fear.
“I know it’s about me. Just like you said, it was my fault your husband was in that critical situation. That’s why I want to plead with you to let me fix the mess I created,” Adrian pleaded.
“And how do you intend to do that? The last I checked, you are neither a doctor nor a psychologist.” I asked him and he went mute.
“I got an idea,” he snapped his hands after going blank for a few minutes.
“What’s the idea?
Why do I even act like I care?” I quickly changed my mind.
“I don’t need any help from you. To me, you’re nothing but a client, and it should remain that way,” I told Adrian straight to his face without mincing words.
“Are you coming with me, or should I do this without you?” I asked Kate. I was going to do this without her if only I had the slightest idea where Rene resides. I understand why Kate was less bothered. Cyril isn’t her husband nor is he related to her.
Just then, a staff from the hospital walked into us arguing and observed the heated moment.
Seeing the staff gave me some sort of relief that Cyril had regained his memory. That’s the only thing that mattered to me. It would save me the embarrassment of stooping so low to plead with Rene to come through for me.
“Did I interrupt anything?” He asked after he noticed how we immediately became silent the moment he showed up.
“No, you didn’t.
We cool,” I forced a smile to make him believe everything was cool. While I responded to him, I made a gesture to Adrian, reminding him that he still needed to leave.
“I got a message from Doctor Escobar,” the staff mentioned.
“Really? What did he say? Does it have anything to do with my ass?” I asked in curiosity. I was desperate to find out what was discussed behind the scenes.
At the mentioned Doctor Escobar, I became more than interested. I avoided all manner of distractions to stay focused.
My hope was high.
I anticipated nothing far from good news. That’s the only piece of information that fumigates my mood that has been ruined by Adrian.
“It’s not in my best interest to disclose that. Why don’t you come with me to his office? That’s the only way you get the answers you seek,” he responded and pretended like nothing was said.
I salivated as different thoughts plagued my head. Some of which I force myself not to believe.
I agreed to come with the staff with a high expectation. As we were about to leave, I stopped to speak and issued a final warning to Kate. “I don’t want to see him here when I return,”
“Who’s that man?
You seem so upset with him,” the staff asked me as we approached Doctor Escobar’s office.
“Who?” I asked while pretending not to know who he was talking about.
“The man I saw you with outside. I don’t mean to intrude, but I’ve been keeping tabs on you for a while and realized that you two are at loggerheads. Do you wanna share?” He buttressed.
“That’s Adrian.
He’s my business partner. We’re just having business issues. It’s nothing for you to worry about,” I told him. I needed to lie. Telling the truth in this critical situation isn’t what I want for myself right now.
“Doctor, here she is,” the staff said the moment we arrived at Escobar’s office.
“Thank you, Mathew.
I would take it up from here,” Doctor Escobar smiled as he dismissed the staff. That’s how I got to know about his name.
“Where have you been? I’ve searched the whole place for you,” Escobar asked.
“I was outside with Kate. You asked me to go get Rene, remember?” I reminded him.
“Oh, that’s true.
Sorry, I forgot,” he held his head to recall.
“Thank goodness you’re here now. I’ve got good news for you, and it has to do with your husband,” Escobar smiled at me, which seemed like the start of something positive.
Without asking him, I knew that Cyril had regained his memory.
I don’t have to worry myself convincing Rene anymore. Escobar just saved me from an impending embarrassment waiting to happen.
