OLIVIA
As we drove to Rene’s apartment, I thought of ways to convince her to come help Cyril restore his memory. It was a massive risk I was willing to take.
If I had another chance to decide, I wouldn’t have opted to go this far just to get Cyril back on his feet again. He doesn’t deserve me, and I’m certain that he would have abandoned me in the hospital if I was In his situation.
I saw how he neglected me back then in this hospital as though I never existed. I still haven’t gotten over the trauma. It wasn’t enough for him to neglect me; he still had the guts to choose Cyril over me.
Thinking about the unfortunate incident only increased my hate for him.
“Are you okay, Olivia? If you need someone to talk to, I’m here.” Adrian volunteered. He exhibited the benevolent traits that got me laid.
“Why would you ask such a baseless question? Don’t I look okay to you? Are you insinuating that I’m lost? If I need someone to speak to, it’s not you. The last time I leaned on your shoulder, I ended up in your bed. In the absence of the bed, would you rather we make out in the back seat of my car?” I quickly took it out on Adrian.
“Sorry for asking.
I shouldn’t have done that. I was just concerned about you,” Adrian apologized.
“Concerned about me?” I pulled over in frustration and focused my attention on Adrian.
“Perhaps, if you could concentrate on our mission and shut the fuck up, I’ll be fine. How about that?”
“Ma’am, what’s the problem? I think he was just trying to help out. He meant no harm,” Kate weighed in and took sides with Adrian when she should have supported me instead.
“And who sought your opinion? Can you just shut the fuck up already? You’re not allowed to speak until I say so,” I warned Kate and forgot about Adrian. She was unfortunate to find herself in the wrong place.
“Yes, ma’am. Accept my apology,” Kate apologized.
Despite her apology, I still felt this resentment towards her. Not even the apology could change that.
“Stay calm, Olivia. You can do this,” I encouraged myself. Driving in this condition might lead to a terrible accident, and I wouldn’t want that to happen.
I finally found my lost rhythm. Without hesitation, I drove straight to the address written by Cyril.
“Here we are now,” I pulled over a semi-detached bungalow with cream-colored paintings on the wall.
“It’s about to get messier right now. I just hope this goes according to plan,” I mumbled with a bit of optimism. Deep down, I knew it wasn’t going to be easy for me. Rene is Cyril’s mistress, which automatically makes her my rival. She probably won’t let me inside her home, let alone accept to stick to the plan.
This was the moment I needed Kate and Adrian to come through for me. How am I going to accomplish that? I hurt their feelings in the worst way possible. I may need more than a miracle to convince them to act according to plan.
It’s been ten minutes since we arrived at Rene’s residence, and neither Kate nor Adrian has said a word to me yet.
I tried all I could to get them to speak up, and it wasn’t working. It dawned on me that the only option left was to apologize to them. It became more difficult for me after yelling at them a couple of hours ago. It would be one of my most embarrassing moments ever.
“I’m sorry, guys,” I hurriedly spoke without looking at their direction. I had my eyes focused on the side mirror the whole time.
None of them said a word to me. My apologies didn’t even mean anything to me. I felt the pain of being ignored.
“Who’s she talking to?” Kate whispered to Adrian as they gossiped about me while I was still with them.
“Not me.
Why should I be bothered? She categorically shut us out. What do you expect me to say?” Adrian lamented bitterly. I felt pain in his tone.
I was eager to make up for my mistakes. I wasn’t comfortable with my actions anymore. However, I had issues approaching them.
Slowly, I looked behind and forced a smile at them. The smile seemed so fake to deceive a five-year-old.
“Guys, please say something. You have every reason to be upset at me, but, please, don’t keep me silent for too long. It’s hurting me deeply,” I begged.
“Are we there yet?
We were wondering why you had to pull over.” Adrian finally spoke and worsened the situation. I preferred it when he was mute.
“Is this a joke?
Of course, we’ve arrived at Rene’s apartment. That’s it over there,” I pointed at the building that was described to me by Cyril.
“Great! Let’s go inside. What are we still doing inside the car? I hope you don’t expect her to come meet you here?” Adrian asked.
“Of course not.
I chose not to step out because I got a problem,” I dragged my utterances. I wasn’t certain if I was making sense.
“Let me guess, you have a problem, and you want us to solve it?” Kate popped the question as though she could read my mind.
“Yes, please. It has to do with Rene. I feel that you two would be very helpful,” I buttressed.
“I knew it! I just knew your apology was fake. You apologized to us because you wanted to use us. How do you intend to achieve that? Because I don’t see it happening. I don’t know about Kate, though,” Adrian exclaimed without listening to what I wanted to say.
I never expected him to help out anyway. I did him dirty and this is a way of punishing me. I’m now left with Kate who I can’t even trust to save my life.
Rene already knows who Kate is, which makes it difficult for me.
Unlike Adrian, this would be his first time meeting with Rene, which puts him in the perfect position to bail me out.
