Elara;
Nova has this shock on her face, which only makes me feel uneasy to speak with her further about anything. I have more questions to ask her, I need to get answers to a lot of things. But I think I will have to speak with her about this some other time.
“What did Marion do in the dream when you saw her?” Nova desperately asks.
“Nothing. Uhm, I mean, she was just there, standing.”
“I don’t understand a thing, Elara,” she clenches her fingers into a fist in front of her. Nova looks more worried than I am. I watch her lips hesitate for a bit before they part to speak again, “I also had a dream, Elara. A very terrible one. This dream involves us.”
“Did you see the old white lady in a white gown?” I ask her.
“Yes, I did.”
“Did you kneel before her?”
“Y…es, I… did.”
Silence fills the air.
I’m stuck between going further with my questions or letting things slide. Nova’s eyes are already filled with sadness and pain. She had the same dream as me. She saw that strange old lady who was tasty for blood.
Nova heard the prophecy which came from the old lady. I thought I was the only one present in that dream that could recall the event. I didn’t know Nova would also be able to. I wish she wasn’t. That dream was horrible.
If Nova could recall the dream, then she actually saw what Marion did on the day of her accident. Nova should be aware of the role Marion played.
“The old lady said one of us will have to die,” Nova breaks the silence.
“Mmm, she said that. But it can only happen when we return to our bodies,” I added and sighed. “We can stay this way, Nova. For as long as.”
She shakes her head uncontrollably, tears already welled up in her eyes. “We can’t, Elara. I have to return to my body or else you’re gonna die. There isn’t much time. I’m already dead, and I’m not supposed to be in the world of the living. Elara, I’m living in borrowed times. I have to find out what happened to me, take my revenge on David and my best friend, so I can finally find peace,” her tears drop down her cheeks.
My lips press in a thin line as I gaze at her. This is too much to bear. The fact Nova knows she is dead, and will go back to being dead, is a crazy event I can’t comprehend. “Is there no way around this?” I blink the tears in my eyes, pushing them to the back of my head.
I need to be strong. She can’t see me crying. It will break and destroy her more.
“There ain’t no other way,” she lowers her head, breaking down into heavy tears.
I can’t help but stand up from the bed, and make my way to the little sofa. Sitting beside her, my hands spread, and I give her a tight hug. Her chin rests on my right shoulder.
“You didn’t feel anything?” She questions in a shaking voice, both of us are still in a tight hug.
“Feel what? I do not understand.” What is she speaking of?
“The energy between us,” she utters.
“What energy?” The only thing I know I’m feeling right now is the body of a sad woman, holding me, and sobbing. What else is there to feel?
“I feel so uncomfortable hugging my body. It feels strange to me, I don’t know how best to explain it,” she states.
“Oh, that!” I break off the hug. “I didn’t feel the strange energy cos I never took my mind to that direction. It seems pretty normal to me,” I brush the tears from her cheeks with the back of my hand. “Does Alpha Arthur know about the dream? The fact you don’t have much time, and you have to return. Does he know you will die once you’re back in your body?”
I notice as her throat drags, I can tell she just swallowed the spit in her mouth. “He doesn’t. Not yet.”
“Why don’t you tell him? I think he deserves to know.”
“I don’t want pity, Elara. I don’t want him to feel guilty or sad over anything. He has done more than enough for me, and I don’t want him to carry my burdens.”
I understand every word of Nova. I know what she’s feeling, and the reason for her decision. I would have done same if I was in her position. But then again…. Life is short and we only live once. Probably, I might end up taking a step of faith.
“He will eventually get to know, when you leave. That will hurt him more. I can tell Alpha Arthur trusts you so much, and he will feel betrayed if he finds out the truth later.”
“This is too much for me, Elara. I don’t know what to do. My parents will be so heartbroken if this finally occurs. They will feel damaged for the second time and this time, it will be worse than the first. I wish I could tell them the truth. They deserve to know,” she huffs in frustration.
“I’m sorry, Nova. I wish I could be of any help,” my lips quiver hard. My tears blur my sight.
We stayed mute for a while. Just our whimpering could be heard. We are both hurting. I can feel her pain and this fact makes it worse for me. How do I make Nova feel better even if it’s just for a short while?
What should I do that will lift her burden away?
Those were the thoughts that filled my mind as I stared right at her. I want to help. I truly want to be of help.
Adjusting my body on the bed, and holding her hands. “Nova, you can have Alpha Arthur to yourself through this period of time. I promise not to get mad with you two,” instantly, I bite my tongue.
Why did I say that to her? This wasn’t her problem at this moment. You just fucking messed up, Elara. You are a big idiot.
“I can?” She asked. Her eyes widen, and her lips faintly drag to the sides. She looks happy. It worked. Nova’s countenance has changed. Gosh, Elara! You did a great job.
My head nods uncontrollably in a ‘yes’ response.
“You won’t be mad at us?” She confirmed.
“Not a single bit.”
“Thank you so much, Elara,” her arms wrap around my body in a warm embrace. She is so excited that she even forgets the awkward feelings she complained about earlier while hugging me. Nova leaves a soft kiss on my forehead. Stands up from the bed, and rushes outside in excitement.
She is indeed in love.
But why did I just give out my man to another woman? What the hell was wrong with me? Oh, no! I shouldn’t think about this. I don’t have to worry about my decision. It’s just for a short time anyway.
And besides, I don’t want to be with Alpha Arthur anymore. He has caused more damage to me than good. That man poisoned me and killed my child, not knowing that child belonged to him. He made a video of us having sex in his car, and released the clip as a payback for what I did to him.
Alpha Arthur didn’t care about my life. He doesn’t care about anyone. For my safety, I should stay far away from him. This is the best decision. Yes, Elara, it’s the best. You did so well.
I push myself sideways, falling flat on the sofa as I let out a heavy sigh. Malicia!…. How are you doing? I’ve missed you so much. I hope life is treating you so well.
Oh, my baby girl.
My eyes shut, my chest rising and falling. The thought of my best friend fills my mind, but I’m yet to understand why this thought is coming with a strange feeling.
The feeling isn’t good.
I pray nothing evil happens to you, my baby girl. You are strong, and you will be fine. With these positive words, I push myself out of the sofa and make my way outside.
My stomach was already rumbling, and I needed to get it filled up. I rush into the kitchen to get something for myself.
The maids bow their heads in respect, greeting me.
I’m not your fucking Princess. I wish I could say that to them.
I grab whatever I can, after I’ve succeeded in telling the maids not to assist me with anything, then I make my way back to the room. That’s the only place I’m comfortable to be.
“When will you stop pretending not to know a thing, Nova? I know a lot of things happened to you, and one of them is the fact you might be a different person at this moment,” I hear the cold voice of a lady. My eyes dart in the direction, and I see who it is.
Instantly, the plate in my hand slips, smashing on the floor. My feet draw back, my heart skips in fear as I lock my widened eyes with her.
The dangerous one.
The one who actually killed Nova.
