Alpha Arthur;
“I think it’s time you let go of my arm, Alpha Arthur. You’ve been holding onto it for too long without saying a word,” David sneers at me.
“Oh. Yeah,” I gulp hard as I let go of him. I never wanted to, but I had no choice. I can’t keep holding on to him without saying a word.
He smirks at me once again before making his way into Elara’s room. Slowly, I fixed my butt back on the stool. My eyes, still watching him as his back fades into that room. What should I do? How do I stop him? David shouldn’t be in that room alone with Elara.
Luna and the maids will step out soon once they notice his presence.
I sprint up from the stool, about rushing into Elara’s room when I feel a hard grab, pulling me back. And my gaze turns to see who. It was Alpha Maxwell. He holds my arm, there’s a little wrath in his eyes.
“That’s enough, Alpha Arthur. Let David be. I know you are trying to protect my daughter from him. I understand quite well. I’m no fool. I can tell he doesn’t love her, and he’s just using Nova,” his words make my jaw drop a little.
But I instantly return it to neutral.
“You knew what he is,” I can tell the surprise on my face is obvious as my eyes dart in the direction of Kingsley. I needed to know if Kingsley was also shocked the same way I was.
But his face looks neutral as he focuses on gulping down his drink.
“Yes, we all know his true colors, Alpha Arthur. I’ve lived too long to sense when something isn’t right,” Alpha Maxwell confirms.
Slowly, I fixed my butt back on the stool. I wanted to listen to him more. What else does he know? Is he aware of the fact Elara and Nova switched bodies? I need to know it all.
With the information I’ll get from him, then I’m sure of what next to say and how to go about the truth. “If you know him too well,” my thumb pointing over my shoulder, “Then why? Why did you let him go back inside to be with her?” Everything sounds quite confusing to me.
“He just wants to sit around and watch her. Nothing will happen for real.”
“How…. Just how are you so sure about that?”
Alpha Maxwell chuckles like my words are funny to him. “Luna will spend the night with Nova. David is the least of my worries, I know how to deal with him when the time is right. I have a more important concern.”
I puff, rolling my eyes as I stare at this old man. What will be more important than saving his daughter from a beast like David? Funny!… But with old Alphas like Alpha Maxwell, you will never know what he’s thinking.
“You are my important concern, Alpha Arthur,” he voices out of the blue.
Pointing at myself, my forehead creases as my eyes slightly dims. “Me? Why me?” What was this old man trying to say?
“I understand David’s attitude towards my daughter, but yours….. I’m worried. Why do you care so much about Nova? You were the one who stopped Nova from being harassed, and I owe you for that. But why do you care?”
“Nothing special, or important. I just hate male wolves taking advantage of females. Does that make sense to you?”
“A little, but I will let it pass. So tell me, are you truly leaving tomorrow, or that was because of David?” Alpha Maxwell is very smart. How did I fucking play down on his intelligence?
Brushing my forehead with my fingers, “I will leave when my mate is ready to. She seems to like it here.”
He nods his head. Kissing his teeth, “That’s another lie, but you’re welcome.” He points his glass toward me, and I click mine on his. Can’t help but chuckle to myself.
These old Alphas. They’re fucking smart.
Throughout my conversation with Alpha Maxwell, Kingsley has been mute. He hardly speaks when his father is speaking. That’s a common thing with royalties. I was always calm when my father was alive.
I only speak if needs be.
The three of us get into another conversation. This time, it was about Kingsley and if he had found a mate. He spoke up, explaining a lot to us. How difficult it was for him dealing with the she-wolves.
His excuses made Alpha Maxwell and me laugh hard. Never knew Kingsley would be terrified by she-wolves. In the midst of the conversation, my eyes keep darting toward the entrance of Elara’s room. I needed to be such Luna and the maids would spend the night with Elara, as stated by Alpha Maxwell.
We had more to drink through the night, and after long conversations, it was time to call it a night. My eyes are already heavy and I need to go have my rest. “Alpha Maxwell, it’s time for me to rest. See you when the sun is bright,” I rise from my seat.
“Alpha Arthur,” Kingsley seeks my attention as I make to walk away.
“Yes,” I gaze right at him.
“Hunting by 4 pm today,” he raises a brow. “I need to know if you still have the skills.”
“Deal,” I give him a direct response, and then stroll into the room assigned to Nova and me.
Nova is still fast asleep when I enter the room. I lowered myself on the bed, lying beside her, and I fell into a deep sleep.
Waking up in the morning, my eyes go straight to the ticking clock on the wall. It’s 11 am and I believe everyone is awake.
Nova!
I turn sideways, she isn’t on the bed. She had woken up before me and I think she decided to go do something else. I push myself out of bed. Have my shower before setting out in search of her.
I also need to check up on Elara.
My feet amble towards Nova’s room in search of Elara. When the maid opens the door, she confirms Elara has stepped out into the garden. Hmmm! This is unlike her. Why the garden?
I make my way toward the garden, hoping Alpha Maxwell doesn’t get to see me. And when my eyes found Elara, I noticed she was seated on the bench, side by side with Luna. My eyes travel up a little and they meet with Nova at the other end.
She stood, watching Elara and Luna from a distance. Yeah, I know she’s feeling sad right this minute. That’s her mother over there but she can’t go into her arms.
I make my way through the other side to meet up with Nova. She must be feeling lonely and needs some attention. So I thought as I finally got to her.
My hands fix in my pockets, my feet halt behind her, “Do you want to join them? I see they are having a great time.”
“Mother might find it uncomfortable. She doesn’t like strangers in her personal space,” Nova knew I was standing behind her.
My scent.
“Sorry about that.”
“There’s nothing to be sorry for, Alpha Arthur,” she veers around, facing me. A grin spreads across her face but I can still see the worries that fill her eyes.
“How is your health?” I use the back of my hand to feel her neck, checking her temperature. That’s what humans do, right?
“Don’t worry about me. I’m fine.”
“So why do you look so worried?”
“My memories are back,” she utters and I raise a brow. She continues, “I know what happened to me on the day of my incident. I caught David cheating on me with Josephine, the last person I expected to betray me.”
“Who is Josephine?”
“She’s my best friend. I’d only found out on the day of my incident, she was David’s fated mate and they’d been together for years. David just wanted to marry me because his family business had gone bankrupt. They needed my family’s wealth to help them revive their dead business. My parents know nothing about this….
Something I find disturbing is how my accident actually happened. Someone tampered with the brakes of my car. The person wanted me dead, but I don’t know who. I need to find out.”
“That bastard. I knew he was the worst. I can’t wait to crush him with my hands when the truth is out in the open.” The fact I will kill David, is the best part of it all.
“I don’t want the truth to come out in the open,” Nova utters, and my eyes widens.
“Why? But this was our reason for coming back here,” what the fuck was she even saying. What’s going on in her head?
“What about me, Alpha Arthur? What happens to me after that?”
“I don’t understand you, Nova. What do you mean?” At this point, I’m lost.
What does Nova actually mean?
