Thinking about Jamie, Georgia couldn’t help but recall Old Mrs. Adams. The usually domineering matriarch seemed to have been shaken this time, rare as it was for her to lower her head to Kayden.
As the head of the Adams family, Old Mrs. Adams was an absolute authority. Even if she was wrong, no one dared to challenge her. Yet yesterday, she had faced Kayden and seemed genuinely intimidated.
Georgia was curious. Who exactly was Kayden? What could possibly make someone as formidable as Old Mrs. Adams afraid? And what about Ferris Carrick, a renowned figure in Seclela’s financial world, who had lost his job at a single phone call from Kayden?
If she hadn’t witnessed Ferris kneeling, it would have been hard to believe.
Kayden was incredible. Reflecting on the recent events felt like dreaming to Georgia.
Her thoughts began to soar as she recalled the surprises Kayden had brought into her life. For instance, she had least expected to secure a contract with the Atkinson family, yet she did.
And at Coleman’s centennial banquet, she had wagered against Jasper, only to see him kneeling instead. While Coleman’s support had played a part, it was clear that he had genuinely wanted to help her, not just for Erika’s sake.
Kayden had always encouraged her. Although he sometimes spoke of seemingly impossible things, he had never broken a promise.
It felt as though, since his memory had returned, everything began to change. Perhaps Georgia had noticed these changes all along but had been reluctant to connect them to Kayden.
Now, Kayden’s identity was gradually shrouding in mystery. He seemed capable of solving any problem.
Could it be that Kayden was truly a powerful figure? The thought sent Georgia’s heart racing, and a vivid image flashed in her mind.
On the day she signed the contract with the Atkinson Group, countless helicopters had soared above the hotel, trailing banners that proclaimed valor, courage, dedication, loyalty-terms associated with heroes. As an educated woman, Georgia understood that these words represented respect for champions.
Georgia recalled the imposing man, wielding a broken sword, who addressed Kayden, “The Broken Sword is delivered. I, the Iron-faced Knight Greedy Wolf, sincerely request your highness to prioritize the greater good and wield the sword to save Seclela. The enemy at the border has sent 800, 000 reinforcements to invade our land. If your highness does not retake command, the border will be lost to the enemy, with dire consequences to follow. Defender of the South, the border is in urgent need of help! Please reconsider.”
“Please reconsider, Defender of the South!”
Could he have been an actor? Were those people possibly actors?
If so, they must have been top-tier performers, for such skill was beyond the average person.
So they were likely not actors. They were real soldiers. And Kayden was certainly one of them, a highly respected soldier, feared by all who encountered him.
This explained his calm demeanor in the face of crises. If he were an ordinary person, he might be showing off. If he were a true powerhouse, it all made sense.
Reflecting on her own recent kidnapping, the protector who had addressed her as Mrs. Scott and lost his life trying to shield her must have been someone Kayden had placed by her side. Yes, though Kayden wasn’t physically there, he had always been watching over her! It was clear how significant she was to him.
This realization lifted Georgia’s spirits. Her kinks were beginning to resolve themselves. Kayden had never deceived her. It was she who had been unwilling to accept the truth.
He truly was a person of high standing who could provide her with everything she desired. No wonder her grandfather had wanted her to marry him and insisted she keep watch over him until the end. Her grandfather had seen through to Kayden’s true identity long before. He had not endangered her but had helped her; she would always cherish the grandfather who loved her most.
The more she thought about it, the stronger her sense of happiness grew. Marrying someone like Kayden made her feel incredibly lucky.
Lost in her thoughts, Georgia felt as though she were drifting away from reality.
“Georgia, where’s Kayden? Is he not coming back today?” Suddenly, Scarlett’s disgruntled voice broke through from the kitchen. She had prepared a feast the previous night for Kayden, wanting to reward him for his heartfelt words, only to find he hadn’t returned. This left her feeling embarrassed.
Georgia’s reverie was interrupted by the voice. “He… probably won’t be back,” she replied.
“Don’t you know where he went?” Scarlett asked, her discontent apparent.
Georgia shook her head. “No, he said he had something to do and left without saying where.”
Scarlett frowned at this. “Kayden performed quite well yesterday. He stood up to Old Mrs. Adams and the Jamie family, which was impressive. It’s a pity he’s a bit short on cash. If only he had money, things would be so much better!”
For Scarlett, the standard of measuring a person still revolved around wealth.
“Mom, does that mean you accept Kayden now?” Georgia asked, surprised.
Regardless of Scarlett’s approval, Georgia had already decided to be with Kayden. She had waited all night for him, believing that once he returned, she would wholeheartedly embrace what had been left unfinished the night before. But his absence had left her feeling a bit let down.
It wasn’t that she was overly eager for intimacy. It was just that Kayden’s failure to even call made her excitement dwindle. But his frequent disappearances had begun to wear on her.
Scarlett scoffed. “Do I even have a choice? You’ve already collected his bedding on the floor.”
At this, Georgia’s face turned crimson. Scarlett sighed deeply and continued earnestly, “Kayden is actually quite good. At least he can protect you, no matter the threat, even from your grandmother. I can see he’s the type who would stand against the whole world for you!”
