Scarlett’s assessment was spot on. Kayden was indeed that kind of person. If the whole world dared to oppose Georgia, he would stand against them all.
Scarlett sighed, her voice tinged with emotion. “At least he’s not like your dad. He has guts and resolve. Your dad wouldn’t dare say a word in front of your grandmother, and I’ve ended up fearing her too over the years. If it weren’t for Kayden pushing back, I might have forgotten that your grandmother is human and not a deity.”
Hearing her mother’s words filled Georgia with warmth. Scarlett had been the most opposed to Kayden, and now that she was saying such things, it seemed no one would stand against their relationship.
Georgia smiled sweetly at Scarlett.
Noticing the smile, Scarlett quickly added, “But don’t let your guard down completely. Men can change when they meet someone they’re interested in. You have to keep him in check! Just like I do with your dad-when he’s out with me, I make sure he doesn’t dare look at other women. A guy who disappears for days without even a call? You need to handle that! I have full confidence in your looks since you’re my daughter. But we can’t relax too much. If you let Kayden think you can’t control him, he’ll do whatever he wants. Make sure to keep in touch with your old classmates to remind him he should feel a sense of urgency! Understand?”
“Okay, Mom, I got it,” Georgia said bashfully.
“Good. By the way, don’t you think Kayden seems different? Have you ever asked about his background?” Yesterday’s events had made Scarlett aware that something was off.
Georgia shook her head. “I don’t know anything!”
Scarlett sighed, murmuring, “What if Kayden is extremely wealthy? Like the heir of some major corporation? If that’s the case, he’d be perfect! Rich and protective-that’s the kind of son-in-law I need!”
Just then, Leah emerged from her room, her short hair framing her face. She approached Georgia, looking curious. “Georgia, have you slept with Kayden?”
Both Georgia and Scarlett froze, turning to Leah in unison. Leah laughed, rolling her eyes. “I saw Kayden’s bed all made up, so I just wanted to ask. Why are you looking at me like that? Did I say something wrong?”
“Focus on your studies instead of asking about these things!” Scarlett quickly rebuked Leah.
Leah pouted, putting on a playful expression. “You really think I’m just a kid? I’m a senior now, I know what’s what.”
“Go away! What do you know?” Scarlett said, annoyed.
But Leah just chuckled. “It’s a good thing you two are already sleeping together. Otherwise, you wouldn’t even know if someone else took Kayden away! You have no idea how popular he is. At school, a lot of people have asked me for his contact info. Luckily, I held back, or he’d have a whole line of admirers!”
Georgia furrowed her brows at Leah, about to ask something, but Leah quickly interrupted. “Don’t ask me anything. I don’t know! Anyway, I’m going to the bathroom!” With that, she left.
Watching Leah’s retreating figure, Georgia felt a knot in her stomach. What did that mean? Could Leah have introduced Kayden to other girls? That was totally something her sister would do.
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
Georgia stood up and opened it.
A stiff-faced man stood there, holding a red invitation card. He handed it to Georgia, speaking in an official tone, “Ms. Adams, I’m from the Saint Dragon Business Association. This is an invitation from our president for you to attend a gathering targeting the entire Hiphia business group. We kindly request your presence at Fcon Hotel in one week!”
After Georgia accepted the invitation, the man turned and left.
Scarlett wiped her hands on her apron, asking excitedly, “Is it from the Saint Dragon Business Association?”
Georgia nodded. “Yes, Mom, it’s that Saint Dragon Business Association!”
The Saint Dragon Business Association was an incredibly powerful business group in Seclela, rich in resources. The owner was a highly mysterious figure, and no one knew his true identity. The association often traveled across the country, inviting various corporate presidents to meetings. Those companies chosen by them typically experienced significant growth afterward.
Scarlett opened the invitation and nearly sparkled with excitement. “Yes, it’s the Saint Dragon Business Association! My daughter, you’re amazing to be recognized by them. This is fantastic!”
Georgia felt a mix of surprise and pride. Her business was still growing and hadn’t even broken into the top fifty in Hiphia. But this seemed to be the pattern of her life-unexpected opportunities kept presenting themselves, undoubtedly arranged by Kayden.
With that thought in mind, Georgia decided to call Kayden, but just as she formed the idea, her phone rang. She checked the screen-it was Kayden calling.
Finally, he was reaching out! Georgia felt a twinge of annoyance at the thought.
She answered the call, and Kayden’s cold voice came through. “Are you alright?”
Georgia hesitated, surprised by the question. Did he really expect something to happen to me?
“I’m fine! Where are you? Why aren’t you home yet?” she grunted and asked, her heart racing as she worried he might think she was implying she was eager to have sex with him.
“I’m glad you’re okay.” Kayden’s tone remained flat. After a pause, he added, “I’m in Inassea. I might not be back for a while. I’ll return as soon as I finish my business.”
“I don’t care!” Georgia teased playfully, deliberately sounding a bit whiny. Now that she had feelings for him, she wanted to project a sense of harmony during their call.
The line fell silent. Kayden seemed to struggle to find something to say.
Georgia thought to herself, This idiot always runs out of things to say!
