Monica’s POV
“Aunt please don’t forget Mason doesn’t like cold milk and Macy doesn’t like warm milk. Mason prefers his milk warm and Macy prefers her milk cold but not too cold. If it’s too cold, she won’t drink” I said, arranging the kids’ food orderly in the kitchen.
I and Nicholas are leaving the country for Germany today and I was just trying to make sure everything was for my kids.
We were going to be away for close to two weeks and I wanted everything to be in place for my kids.
“All right Monica dear” Aunt Ella said, Mason, sleeping peacefully in her arms
“Mom please do you mind not allowing her to put her fingers in her mouth? She would be taking germs into her mouth” I said, walking to my mother who held Macy on her thigh
“Oh, I didn’t know about that,” my mom said.
“Just hit her hand lightly whenever you see her put her hands into her mouth,” I said, walking to Macy and forcefully taking her hands off her mouth.
“Honey, are you ready?” Nicholas asked for the sixth time since we came to the living room
“Yes I am but I just need to make sure everything is in order,” I said, my voice sharp and echoing in the living room
“Mom please don’t forget to change Mason’s diapers every five hours. He messes his diapers a lot” I said, reminding my mom about what I told her earlier
“Don’t worry dear. I have that in mind already” she replied.
“Thanks, Mom and lastly whenever Mason starts crying, just sing that lullaby you usually sang for me when I was little. It works like magic for him” I said.
“I think it’s time you get going, Monica. We have everything under control so don’t worry about anything. Just enjoy yourself while in Germany while we keep things in order over here” Aunt Ella said, wrapping her hands around me in a gentle warm hug
“Thank you, Aun, t,” I said.
“Don’t I deserve a hug too?” My mind asked, placing Macy on the couch and rising to her feet as he walked to where I was “I’m gonna miss you” she said as she hugged me tightly.
“I can’t breathe Mum,” I said, pretend to be gasping for breath and she released me instantly. “I’ll miss you too,” I said then engulfed her in another embrace.
“Honey that’s enough hugging already. Let’s go” Nicholas complained, a frown on his face.
“You” Aunt Ella yelled, pointing her index finger accusingly at Nicholas “You want to rush off to Germany without saying goodbye to me”
“Goodbye aunt,” Nicholas said, his time plain and void of emotion.
“This is how you want it huh?” Aunt Ella asked, narrowing her eyes and staring intently at Nicholas who sighed and walked to where she stood.
“Goodbye, aunt. I’m gonna miss this dramatic attitude of yours” Nicholas said, wrapping his hands around her waist and resting his head on her chest like a child.
