Monica’s POV
IN THE EVENING
For the first time in my life, I looked at Mason and Macy and didn’t feel sad about what the future held for me.
I watched Mason as he crawled on the floor, displaying his two teeth which had managed to grow out of his gum as he crawled towards where I sat.
Now, I didn’t have to worry about my illness but hope that everything moved and worked as planned.
There wasn’t any reason for me to cry or feel depressed anymore about leaving Mason Macy or even Nicholas.
Though I was happy I still had a trace of fear in my heart. What if the surgeon doesn’t complete his research or something comes up and they can’t come up with a way to remove the tumor?
This fear in my heart lingered since last night and whenever I think about it, I can’t help but feel chills down my spine.
“Honey I’m home” I heard Nicholas’s voice and I rose to my feet excitedly, my previous thoughts disappearing into thin air after hearing his voice.
Before I could reach the door, the door creaked open and Nicholas walked into the room.
“Welcome back home” I uttered, a broad smile on my lips as I wrapped my hands around his neck and captured his
“You seem very excited today”
“I’m just happy to see you” I replied, placing my head on his chest as I moved my hands from his neck to his waist.
“Guess what?” He said, his eyes glimmering with happiness
“What?”
“The surgeon called today” The moment the words left his lips, I suspected that it had something to do with my illness.
“And?” I asked, anxious to hear what he had to say.
“We are going to Germany, Monica. The research was a success and they found a way to successfully remove the tumor from your brain”, Nicholas said, his voice shatonand laced with excitement
“Oh my God” I gasped, covering my mouth with both of my hands in shock.
I stared at Nicholas in disbelief, finding it hard to believe his words “This isn’t a joke right?” I asked.
“No, it isn’t honey. We are leaving the country tomorrow for Germany and your surgery is to commence in two days”, Nicholas said, explaining further.
I pinched myself, desperately praying in my heart that this was real and not some sort of dream. I pinched myself again and my heart swelled in joy as I realized that this was real and not a dream.
I rushed into Nicholas’s arms as I jed on him and wrapped my hands around him “Woah take it easy there” he cautioned.
“Thank you,” I said, tears spilling down my cheeks.
“There’s no need to thank me”
“Thank you for going this far for me. Thank you for your sleepless night. Thank you for not giving up on me. Thank you for fri being the best husband I wished for. Thank you for your support and love and care and_”
“That’s enough,” he said, his hands tightly around my waist as he held me in place so that I didn’t fall off and hit the ground.
“I’ve said this before honey. You’re my wife and my responsibility. If I’m not worried about you, who will? Stop thanking me for performing my duty as your husband” he said, his voice calm and soothing to my ears.
“You don’t know what you’ve done for me. You’ve been a huge blessing to my life and I’m always grateful that we crossed paths” I said, more tears streaming down my face.
“You’re wrong honey. You’re the one who is a blessing to my life. You brought light, love, and care to my life and I’m happy we crossed paths” he said, but I moved my head from side to side in disagreement.
“no you’re wrong and I’m right. You’ve filled my life with happiness. Happiness I didn’t experience while I was with Ethan. Ethan never went far in doing stuffs for me. I was always the one trying to please him. I was always trying to make him happy, and he cared less about my feelings back then, but you showed me what it felt like to be loved genuinely.”
“I had no intention of falling in love, but you showed me what love was. You changed me so much, Monica Sterling”, Nicholas said.
“No, you changed me,” I said.
“I didn’t care about anything except the company and my position, but you taught me what family was. You taught me how to care for the people around me. You taught me how to be selfless for the people I loved and cared about”, Nicholas said.
“Then can we say we’ve both been blessings to each other’s lives?” I asked.
“That’s how we should say it. We both came into each other’s lives and brought happiness and love” Nicholas said.
I remained in his arms while he stood still, holding me tightly to himself.
Silence lingered in the room as I listened to his heart beating against his chest but the silence in the room was instantly interrupted by Macy, who stared at us, crying loudly with her mouth wide open.
“I think she wants me to carry her too,” Nicholas said and I raised my head from his chest to see Macy on the floor stretching her hands towards Nicholas as she pouted her lips and stared at me
“He is mine. Go look for your husband to carry you in his arms” I said playfully but it seemed like Macy heard and understood me perfectly as she started crying again, her sharp voice piercing into the silence in the room.
“Come on honey please come down so I carry her. It’s obvious she wants to be carried too” he said and I frowned.
Macy seemed to be getting attached to Nicholas and I didn’t like it. I felt a wave of jealousy hit me as I looked at my daughter on the floor, her cries getting lifer and louder as she got attention.
“Fine,” I said, removing my feet from his waist and standing on my feet.
“Come here, sweetie. Don’t cry Daddy is here” he said and I rolled my eyes at the sweet little voice he used for her. He didn’t speak to me softly that way.
“You’re not being fair,” I said, picking Mason up from the floor and walking out of the room, pouting my lips.
