Adrian was almost through with his breakfast when his phone chirped. He saw who the caller ID was and he didn’t answer the phone.
It rang the second and third time and Richard suspected who the caller might be. Maybe that’s Ava’s parents, he thought.
“Why are you not answering your phone?” Richard asked and paused his meal, turning to glance at his son. Adrian is stubborn, a typical trait from his dad.
“It’s Mr Leon. I don’t owe that man anything so I don’t know why he is calling me” Adrian replied flippantly. If there’s anyone who owes him an explanation, it’s his parents and grandfather.
“He is your father in-law. You should respect him and answer your phone” Richard cautioned. No matter what, he is married to Mr Leon’s daughter.
“I do not acknowledge his daughter as my wife and I do not see him as related to me in any way. So his daughter might be living in this mansion doesn’t mean he has the audacity to call my cell phone number” Adrian responded arrogantly.
“I won’t tolerate this from you, Adrian” Richard blurted but his son replied almost immediately “Don’t ruin my happy mood this morning. If you want I could leave this mansion for you for the next two weeks” he snapped at his father.
“Adrian, don’t talk back to your father that way” Anna stepped in. She knows he is not happy with his dad for sitting on the fence about his marriage with Ava Leon.
But he shouldn’t talk back to his father. That’s disrespectful on his part. She cautioned him and Adrian stayed calm.
Adrian soon stood up and left for the company. When on earth can he wake up in the morning and return home at night to sleep without the name Ava Leon and her parents not mentioned in his ears?
Despite being on the hospital bed, her name was echoing in the Lester family Mansion. He certainly knows it’s because of Ava’s absence that his grandfather wouldn’t come downstairs for breakfast.
And literally, it doesn’t concern him at all. But that man calling him in the middle of breakfast hurts his mood. What nonsense.
He should be grateful that he didn’t answer his phone at all. Because if he does he wouldn’t expect what he would say to him that morning. He should stay with his poor wretched life and not annoys him like this again otherwise, he would feel his wrath.
Since Adrian was not answering his phone, Mr Leon decided to call his daughter. She would probably be with her phone unlike her husband that is usually so busy.
Ava Leon was sitting up and Ms Alice got her breakfast before they would leave. Clem had paid the hospital bills and would take them home.
Seeing that her father was calling, she glanced at Ms Alice and the latter nodded, telling her she could answer the phone. She then answered the phone.
“Papa” Ava said, trying hard to use an excited tone. She mustn’t let her papa know she’s in the hospital, otherwise he would get worried and it would affect his health.
“Ava, are you alright?” Mr Leon asked. His daughter is sounding fine and happy. Didn’t the scandal of her husband being involved with another woman trouble her?
“I’m fine, Papa. Are you fine today?” Ava asked, why is her dad asking her if she’s alright? Of course she is. At least now, she’s fine now with Ms Alice by her side.
“I haven’t been fine since last night when I saw the trending news of your husband with another woman…” Mr Leon explained.
Ava’s temple went blank and next her complexion paled. Adrian was in the news with another woman? That woman would definitely be his lover Lola Carrero.
For some seconds, Ava couldn’t respond. She was tongue tied. She glanced at Ms Alice, they interlocked eyes and the older woman looked away to keep her tears in check.
“… your mother and I were worried sick about you and knew you might be experiencing a heartbreak…” Mr Leon continued.
Ava’s tears cascaded down her cheeks. So he was with her and she was waiting for him, remaining in the storm and expecting that he would come. He was really with her.
“Are you there, Ava?” Mr Leon asked. His daughter suddenly went quiet. He expected her to say something but she didn’t, hence he wants to know if she’s still on the phone with him.
Her father’s words brought her back to her senses and she sniffled quickly, trying to get back to her fake excited tone.
“Yeah.. yes.. Papa. it’s nothing..” Ava Leon stuttered and she quickly said “It’s nothing papa. His rivals are at it again. They’re just trying to tarnish his reputation and ruin his good name.
That probably was an old romance stuff with his ex. Adrian Lester and I were together the entire evening celebrating our anniversary…” Ava defended.
She didn’t give her father a chance to say something else before she added “I’m going off now Papa, Adrian is about to leave for the company and I must see him off” and hung up.
Clem heard her words as he stood at the door. He looked away at the floor and didn’t know what else to say. Why is this life so unstable?
She loves and protects him before her family but he despises and ridicules her before his family. He hates her, he cheats on her with his mistress and cares less about what she thinks about it.
But she blamed it on his rivals and jealousy so as to paint a good picture of him before her parents. Why is she doing that, why is she protecting him? Is this love?
“Oh Ava” Ms Alice blurted and held the younger woman in a tight hug. This is too much love. How can she protect him despite knowing he was having affairs with another woman?
“He was with her Ms Alice. He left me in the storm and was spending the evening with her on our wedding anniversary…”Ava was sobbing.
