Kate’s POV
I slept for most of the day after the fight, it was hard not to with how exhausted I felt afterwards,. I was laying in bed when the warm golden glow of the sun fell across my face waking me up
Marcellus was gone, and his dark magic with him as well, I rose from bed and took my robe to cover myself properly. For now, everything was normal again-well, as normal as life in a werewolf pack could be.
Dimitri was not in bed, I wondered where he was.
I stepped out onto the porch of our cabin, the air was crisp and clean, brushing against my skin
But it wasn’t just the pack that was healing. I could feel it within myself too-a deep, sense of calm that I hadn’t known was possible. My wolf Lyka was no longer restless or prowling and neither was the magic in my core either.
She was a steady presence, now her energy melding seamlessly with my own, like we had finally found our rhythm, the two parts of me coming together as one.
I walked through the pack lands, watching as my people went about their day, rebuilding what had been lost, which thankfully had not been much
I looked to the left where I saw Dimitri, he was already outside, in the training grounds, his bare chest gleaming with sweat as he went through a series of combat drills his tall, broad frame shadowed against the soft light of dawn.
Even after the fight it seemed he had become more determined to never let his guard down. He was always training, always preparing for whatever might come next. And I loved him for it.
His muscles rippled under his shirt as he moved with the grace of a predator. I couldn’t help the smile that tugged at my lips, he looked gorgeous and I wasn’t just saying that the bond between us hummed with a quiet strength sometimes it felt so strong that I worried.
It was something deeper, more than just the mating bond- something that had been strengthened in the moments of quiet that followed between us and all the terror.
He must have sensed my presence
“You’re staring, sweetheart,” Dimitri called out, not even looking up from his drills. His voice was low and teasing, sending a shiver of anticipation down my spine.
“Can you blame me?” I shot back, stepping closer to training area.
“It’s not every day I get to watch my mate show off.” He turned to me, a slow, easy smile spreading across his face, his eyes darkening with that familiar heat that always set my blood on fire.
“Is that so? Then why don’t you come over here and show me what you’ve got, Kate?”.
The challenge in his voice was unmistakable, and it sent a thrill of excitement coursing through me. I didn’t hesitate, crossing the distance between us in a few quick strides. My wolf practically purring with anticipation at the invitation.
The pack members gathered around us eager to watch
“You’re on, Alpha,” I said, dropping into a fighting stance.
“But don’t go easy on me just because I’m your mate.”
His grin was wicked, and it made my heart skip a beat.
“I wouldn’t dream of it.”
“Ready?” he asked, his voice low and filled with promise.
I nodded, my heart pounding in my chest. “Always.”
And then we were moving, circling each other with the ease of long-practiced partners. Dimitri struck first, a quick jab aimed at my shoulder. I dodged it easily, landing a swift kick that he blocked with his forearm. The impact sent a jolt of energy through me, and I felt my wolf surge forward, eager to join the fight,
Down girl!
I instructed and she growled but settled but not before he was coming at me, again his movements swift and precise. I barely had time to react, my instincts kicking in as I dodged to the side, just avoiding his grasp.
He came at me again, but this time I was ready. I met him head-on, our bodies colliding with a force that sent us both stumbling back. But I didn’t let that slow me down. I pressed the attack, my fists and feet moving in a blur as I pushed him back, step by step.
We moved together in a dance of power and yet our bodies moved in perfect sync. Every punch, kick, or dodge met with equal force, neither of us holding back.
But Dimitri was Alpha and he was stronger than anyone I’d ever faced. And even as I landed blow after blow, he was right there with me, matching me move for move. It was exhilarating, the way we moved together, like two parts of a whole, perfectly in sync.
And then, with a unexpected kick of his feet that packed me off my on feet and unto the floor my breath knocked out of me. But before I could recover, he was on top of me, pinning me to the ground with his weight his hands gripping my wrists as he pushed me down into the grass. I struggled, but it was half-hearted, the feel of his body pressed against mine making it hard to focus on anything else.
“Good morning, beautiful,” he said, his voice a deep rumble that sent shivers down my spine.
“Morning,” I replied, breathing harshly unable to keep the smile off my own face.
“You’re up early.” I mumbled breathlessly
“Couldn’t sleep,” he admitted,
“Thought I’d get in some training before the day started. And it looks like I won,” he murmured, his breath hot against my ear.
“Maybe,” I whispered back, a grin spreading across my face.
“But I’m not sure winning was your goal.”
His eyes darkened at my words, a low growl rumbling in his chest as he leaned down, and the next thing I knew, his lips were on mine, claiming them with a hunger that set my blood on fire. The world around us faded away, and all that mattered was the feel of his body against mine, the heat of his skin, the taste of his kiss. I kissed him back just as fiercely, the heat between us flaring to life in an instant my body arched up against his, desperate to be closer.
Dimitri growled again, the sound vibrating through my entire body, making me shiver with anticipation. He let go of my wrists, his hands sliding down my arms, over my sides, so that they were gripping my hips, holding me in place as his lips trailed down my neck.
My wolf howled in approval, her presence strong and steady within me, and I could feel her power surging, the bond between us flaring to life, a surge of energy that made my heart race.
It was intoxicating, the way it made me feel, like I was on fire from the inside out.
“Kate,” Dimitri murmured against my skin, his voice rough with need.
“Alpha” I breathed, my hands tangling in his hair as I pulled him closer, he growled his wolf so close to the surface it was like he would shift.
His hands were everywhere, sliding under my shirt, over my bare skin, leaving a trail of fire in their wake but all I wanted more- all I needed was more.
I tugged at his shirt, impatiently pushing it up and over his head, eager to feel his skin against mine.
The next few moments were a blur of heated kisses and desperate touches, as our bodies moving together with a familiarity, like we were so deep in each other we didn’t know when we ended.
We moved together, the world around us falling away as we lost ourselves in each other.
When we finally pulled apart, both of us were breathing hard, our hearts pounding in sync, we lay there in the grass, our bodies entwined as we caught our breath. The sky above us a brilliant shade of blue.
Dimitri’s eyes were dark with desire, as he rolled over me his gaze running over me
“I love you,” he said softly, his voice barely more than a whisper.
“I love you too,” I replied, my voice just as soft,
He smiled, a slow, lazy grin that made my heart skip a beat, and he pulled me closer, his arms wrapping around me as if he never wanted to let me go. We stayed like that for a while, just enjoying the quiet, the peace.
But eventually, the world came back into focus, and with it, the responsibilities that we couldn’t ignore.
“We should get up,” Dimitri said, though he made no move to let go of me.
“We should,” I agreed, though I wasn’t in any hurry to leave his embrace.
Reluctantly, we pulled ourselves up, brushing the grass off our clothes as we prepared to face the day. The pack needed us, and there were still things to do.
“How about a little more training?” Dimitri suggested, a playful gleam in his eyes.
I grinned, already feeling the anticipation building. “You’re on.”
We spent the next hour sparring, our movements working hard to push each other to the limit. It was exhilarating, the way we moved together, the way we challenged each other.
By the time we were done, we were both panting, sweat pouring down our bodies, but the smiles on our faces were more than worth it. There was a sense of satisfaction in the air, my wolf whined with in happiness inside me
“You’re getting better,” Dimitri said, his voice filled with pride as he pulled me into his arms.
“So are you,” I replied, my own voice filled with admiration.
He chuckled, pressing a kiss to my forehead.
“That’s because you’re making me work for it.”
I grinned, feeling a warmth spread through my chest at his words. “Good. I wouldn’t want it any other way.”
. “We should get cleaned up,” he said, his voice tinged with regret.
” They’ll start looking for me soon ” he mumbled and I nodded muttering
“Yeah, you’re right.” pulling away from him
“But don’t think this is over, Dimitri. I’m not done with you yet.” he grinned, sending a shiver of anticipation down my spine.
“I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
