Who is he?
Rosalind didn’t have time to think too much before a sharp pain shot through her head, causing her delicate brows to knit together.
The doctor, seeing her in such pain, quickly stepped forward to relieve it.
A few minutes later, the nurse who had left earlier hurried back in. “The gentleman said he understands.”
“Is he coming over?”
“No, he’s already left.”
Listening to the conversation between the nurse and the doctor, Rosalind felt something was off. Before she could speak, a wave of nausea hit her again.
After a while of this torment, the little strength she had left was quickly drained, and Rosalind closed her eyes and drifted back into sleep.
When she woke up again, she found herself in a regular hospital room.
Opening her eyes, the first thing she saw was Mr. Wong with a bandage wrapped around his forehead, sitting on a chair beside her. Lion was also there, his tall figure covered in dust, his deep-set mixed-race features full of worry.
“Thank God you’re awake!”
Seeing her open her eyes, Lion immediately stepped to the bedside.
Rosalind felt a bit dizzy, but fortunately, the pain had subsided, likely due to the painkillers still in effect.
“I’m fine…”
“You really scared me!” Lion’s Chinese wasn’t very good, carrying a bit of a foreign accent. “If something had happened to you because of the Wayer City project, I would have been truly guilty!”
She had applied for a transfer, but stayed because of his persistent persuasion.
Rosalind weakly smiled and suddenly thought of the “he” the doctor mentioned earlier. That must have been referring to Lion!
She had actually… actually had a tiny bit of hope, thinking it might really be…
“Why are you here?”
“I was originally back in the country to inspect another project. When I heard you were in trouble, I immediately bought the nearest flight over! Fortunately, the doctor said you weren’t seriously hurt. You’re lucky; all the best doctors in Wayer City happened to be gathered here today!”
“I’ve always been lucky to have such a good boss like you,” Rosalind joked as she tried to prop herself up.
Lion quickly helped her, placing a pillow behind her back.
Mr. Wong, who was standing nearby, was about to thank Rosalind for risking her safety to help him out today when she spoke first.
“After this incident, our resort should really have no more obstacles. That holdout must have been arrested by now.”
Lion didn’t know whether to be exasperated or praise her dedication.
“You’re in this condition and still thinking about the project? If they had seriously hurt you today, I would never let those rioters get away with it!”
“Lion, those residents were incited by someone. Don’t be too hard on them. Besides… besides, I intentionally provoked that holdout. I just didn’t expect him to react so violently.”
Rosalind knew that this person wouldn’t give up easily without facing some consequences. So she called the police hoping that when he caused trouble, they would come and take him away. After all, causing a public disturbance is an offense, and with the police witnessing it firsthand, they could at least detain him for a few days.
Mr. Wong frowned and scolded, “Rosalind, don’t ever do that again. The project is important, but your safety is even more so! If it weren’t for a kind passerby saving you today, who knows what could have happened!”
“A kind person? Mr. Wong, did you get his contact information? I’d like to thank him in person.”
Mr. Wong shook his head. “At that time, I was barely able to protect myself, surrounded by several rioters. I didn’t get a good look at the kind person. From what I could see, he seemed like a tall, thin man wearing a black suit.”
