Seeing someone approaching, the resident troublemaker stormed over to her in a few quick strides. Without a word, he snatched her phone and smashed it to the ground!
Instantly, the phone shattered into pieces.
At that moment, Rosalind realized she had underestimated the hostility of these people.
“What you’re doing is intentionally damaging someone else’s property. That’s illegal.”
“And what about you cheating the common folks out of their money? How much is a phone worth anyway?”
Rosalind furrowed her elegant brows. “If you’re so confident in your reasoning, why don’t you let me call the police? You should want me to bring them here to ensure justice for you!”
“Who knows if you people are all in cahoots, taking bribes!” the troublemaker retorted, then turned to the gathered crowd and shouted, “Everyone, this woman! She’s colluding with insiders to cheat me, and she’s a manager. The money we deserve has definitely been pocketed by her!”
With those words, several burly men immediately charged at Rosalind.
It was early in the morning, and the security guards hadn’t started their shift yet. Mr. Wong tried to intervene, but his small frame was no match for the sturdy laborers who had spent years working in the fields.
“Hey, what are you doing! Assaulting someone is illegal!”
Rosalind took a few steps back but lost her balance and fell to the ground.
Before she could say another word, she felt a sharp pain from her scalp-
Looking up, she saw a man gripping her hair tightly, trying to drag her into the crowd.
Rosalind tried to struggle, but more hands reached out for her! Even Mr. Wong wasn’t spared; he had already been punched and was lying on the ground.
She wanted to scream for help but knew very well that at this time, on a construction site, who would come to her rescue?
Pain quickly spread throughout her body.
A fist landed on the back of her head, causing Rosalind to feel dizzy as if her consciousness was slipping away.
She tried to stay awake, knowing she might be beaten to death by these angry people if she didn’t. But the punch had been too heavy; her body wouldn’t obey her commands.
In a daze, Rosalind seemed to hear that deep and familiar voice again.
He said not to be afraid, not to be afraid; it’s me… I’m here…
…
Rosalind felt her body gradually becoming lighter, as if she could float.
She tried to reach out and grab something, but it was in vain.
Her limbs wouldn’t move.
The more Rosalind tried to move, the more it felt like something was restraining her!
Until suddenly, she heard a doctor’s voice near her ear.
“The patient has a severe concussion. When she wakes up, she might experience headaches and nausea. You need to keep a close eye on her.”
“Got it!”
That must be the nurse speaking.
Rosalind tried to move her fingers and after a long while, slowly opened her eyes.
What met her gaze was an intensely white ceiling and the unpleasant smell of disinfectant all around.
It seemed she was still alive.
“Oh, you’re awake!” The nurse noticed her first and quickly called the doctor over.
After running a few more tests and confirming she was out of danger, the doctor finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Rosalind could even see beads of sweat on his forehead!
Was it really that serious… She wasn’t anyone important.
She watched as the doctor relaxed completely and then quickly walked out, saying as he went, “Quick, tell him she’s okay now!”
Him?
