It wasn’t only the doctors, even an outsider like Nadia, who was sitting in the back row, rested her chin in her hands and was listening with great interest. Her eyes sparkled as she watched Kayden, brimming with admiration.
She had always thought this guy, so poor with words, was just pretending to be a cool loner. And seeing him speak so eloquently really took her by surprise. If she didn’t see him speak this way today, she would continue believing that Kayden was just a pretentious loser. But watching him now, she found him rather handsome.
At this thought, a faint smile appeared on Nadia’s face. She found herself thoroughly enjoying the sound of Kayden’s voice. Every word, every tone was hitting her right in the heart.
Nadia could hardly imagine how someone’s speech could carry such enormous charm.
Beside her, Hank was equally astonished. No wonder Professor Flores called himself his student. Kayden was truly knowledgeable, particularly in traditional medicine, and if it’s possible, even more than Professor Flores.
Despite what had happened earlier, Hank now looked at Kayden with respect, just as he did with Professor Flores. And heavens, if he hadn’t witnessed it himself, he would never have believed this young man could be so impressive.
Kayden spoke for about an hour. In that hour, he gave the audience a whole new understanding of traditional medicine, erasing much of their previous disdain.
After his lecture had ended, the auditorium remained silent so that one could hear a pin drop.
It was a profound silence that was almost eerie.
Everyone was lost in his words, unable to snap out of it for a long time.
The entire audience was wide-eyed, completely unaware that Kayden had finished his lecture.
Suddenly, someone began to clap, and it snapped everyone out of their daze. They all stood up and joined in a thunderous round of applause.
Professor Flores looked at Kayden with admiration and awe, then walked up to him, excitedly shaking his hand. His eyes were filled with tears-tears of great joy.
Seeing such a young man possess such a profound understanding of traditional medicine filled him with unprecedented satisfaction. Once, he had feared that traditional medicine would fall into decline and had written countless articles to awaken public interest, but all to no avail. And now, in this young man, he saw hope-the hope for traditional medicine of Seclela.
“Thank you, thank you, sir, for letting me witness such an exquisite speech!” Professor Flores said, his voice choked with emotion. He was the type who only respected those stronger than him. When someone proved more knowledgeable than him, he would naturally respect them.
Kayden’s expression remained as indifferent as ever. He had no interest in the revival of Seclela’s traditional medicine. His duty was to guard the borders of Seclela and prevent any intruders from stepping even a foot inside. Beyond that, he had no time or interest to care about anything else.
He replied with a breezy tone, “No problem.”
He was about to ask about the Hellblazer when Professor Flores picked up the microphone and addressed the audience, “That’s all for today.”
It was obvious that the audience wanted more, as many people walked over toward Kayden.
“Sir, we have some questions about what you just said.”
“Sir, please allow me to express my respect. This is the most wonderful lecture I’ve ever attended. Your words have given me a new understanding of traditional medicine. May I have your autograph?”
“Sir, please accept my admiration!”
“…”
There were so many people. But Kayden remained as cold as ever and ignored those flattering comments, not showing a kind face to anyone. He merely said in a frosty tone, “Sorry, I’m not interested.”
After that, he looked at Professor Flores and asked, “Professor Flores, can we talk now?”
“Kayden!” Before the professor could answer, a girl’s voice called out.
Nadia had made her way to the front row, her eyes wide with anticipation as she looked at Kayden.
Kayden looked at Nadia coldly and asked, “What do you need?”
He remained indifferent to Nadia, unaffected by their earlier incident together. Nadia paused in clear surprise, her brows furrowing, and pouted her lips.
“If you don’t have anything important, go back then. I have things to do,” Kayden said, quickly looking back at Professor Flores. “Professor Flores, can we talk now?”
Professor Flores nodded and said, “Yes, of course.”
Before long, the two arrived at a small office. Before Kayden could say anything, Professor Flores excitedly asked again, “Sir, are you sure that you don’t want to be a professor at our university? Or do you have better opportunities elsewhere? I understand that with your expertise, our university might not fully utilize your talent. But rest assured, if you agree to be a professor here, I’ll make sure that you can have all the opportunities you want, and someday, you could choose any of the top schools in the country.”
This topic again. Professor Flores genuinely wanted Kayden to teach here. Such talent was incredibly rare.
“Sorry, Professor Flores, I’m not interested in teaching. Can we discuss Hellblazer now?” Besides Georgia, Professor Flores was the one that Kayden had shown more patience to than he did with anyone else.
Professor Flores sighed in disappointment and shook his head helplessly. “What a shame. If Inassea University could have someone like you, it would surely become a model for the entire country. Not to mention, the traditional medicine program would advance by leaps and bounds!”
Kayden just looked at Professor Flores and remained silent.
Suddenly, Professor Flores reached into his leather bag, rummaging around for a moment before pulling out a notebook. He handed it to Kayden and said, “By the way, sir, before I tell you what I know, could you first help me solve these two problems?”
Kayden was literally speechless.
He felt like he had been set up. Professor Flores was quite complicated. If he didn’t have something important to ask, Kayden would have already walked away by now. However, he’s on the professor’s turf, so he figured it was better not to get into a confrontation with him.
So he took the notebook, gave it a quick look, and picked up a pen to start writing.
As Kayden wrote, Professor Flores watched, exclaiming, “Oh my! Oh my!” repeatedly, muttering things like, “How did I not think of that?”
It didn’t take long for Kayden to finish writing. He handed the notebook back to the professor and asked, “Professor Flores, can you tell me now?”
Professor Flores took the notebook, and kept sighing deeply, expressing his regrets for not having Kayden as a professor here.
And suddenly, he set the notebook down and did something that surprised Kayden. He grabbed Kayden’s hand tightly and stared into his eyes.
