Ophelia has gone to the doctor just because, for some reason, she wanted to listen to what Cade has drummed so much. The doctor told her it was just a simple cold and that she needed to take her medication and rest. She checked the time on her phone, she had been so caught up in trying to detach her feelings that she had not asked him for the details of his flight.
She was curled up in one of the suspended chairs on the balcony of the house; since she moved in there, she had not been to the balcony; she loved that the breeze touched her cheek. She was wrapped in a quilt as she sipped from a large cup filled with chocolate milk. She was sure that he must have gotten to his destination; she wanted to hear from him, but her pride was more important to her anyway.
Her phone began ringing on the table and she had hope that Cade was going to call and check in on her. The smile that had grown on her face dropped when she saw Green’s name plastered on the screen.
“Hello little one,” he said as soon as she picked up the call.
“Green, how are you doing?” she asked, sniffling.
“I am doing good, I had to call because since the day we had a drink together, I had not heard from you and your husband disrupted our little time together.”
Green already knew that Cade was out of town; Harper had told him everything about the plan. He had ten days alone with Ophelu and he must find a way to get them on the same page. Ophelia saw this as an opportunity to clear Green’s name. Cade must have misunderstood the situation and to her, it was a bit weird that Cade was choosing to believe the words of his ex-girlfriend when she was sure that she wanted him. Who knows she might be framing him just to get Cade for herself.
“Oh yeah, he is paranoid because he loved me” she said feeling her throat burn from saying he loved her after all that had gone down between them.
“I see, what are you doing? Do you think we can meet up?” he asked.
“I was going to spend the night with my husband,” she said as if she was sorry that she could not. She had to see if Grene was getting information from someone. And if anyone would give him that information then it would have to be Harper as Cade had said.
“Your husband? I thought he was out of town.” Green asked, and she smiled to herself because she got the answer she wanted. She was glad that she was not the detached wife that Green was thinking that she was now and that Cade had made sure to tell her that he was going on a trip with Harper. “Isn’t he supposed to have gotten to Nebula City by now?”
Green had blown his cover right before her, and probably it was because he did not know that she suspected him. How else would he know the day, time and city except if he was told by someone on the inside and that someone was definitely Harper? “Oh yes, that is it. I was confused as to why he is so late” Ophelia lied.
She could not let him think that she suspected him, that would make them change their plan and she was already onto them. “Little one are you having troubles with your husband?”
“Of course not,” her voice was high-pitched, and she closed her eyes, knowing that he was going to pick it up from you that there was trouble in paradise. Maybe, this was a good thing for her; she could use the need for consolation to drag him out. “Everything is rosy,” she added, trying her best to maintain the pitch.
“It does not sound like it” Green said worried for her.
“It’s just normal disagreement between couples you know”
“And he went across borders without telling you?”
“I was aware it was just that it’s been so hectic for me and the new job that I had forgotten he was travelling today.” Ophelia said.
“Do you want to meet up today? Maybe I can cheer you up with some cheesecake.” Ophelia could tell that the main reason he called her was because she was alone and he knew that she had ten days away from her husband. A lot of damage could be done in ten days. All she could hope and pray for was that Cade continually made the right decision or she might end up being the laughing stock in the city after all.
“I don’t know, I am pretty stressed.” she knew that she had to turn down that meeting until she figured out what to do. She loved Green as a friend he had always been a good one so she wanted to get evidence against him and ask him to stop. Once he knew that She knew all of the petty tricks he was trying to use would suddenly not have meaning or effect anymore.
She wondered why she was not able to see that he liked her after they had spent all that time together. She thought that maybe she was blind and that was why she thought that it was possible that Cade had a thing for her. She was blind to the guy who liked her and blind to the one who did not. Maybe that was why he kept trying to stop her from getting married.
Even if she had somehow managed her father and she had gotten together with him would things have been different?” Will she have learnt to love him? Because of all the emotions surging through her blood, she could only feel one thing for him and that was friendship.
“Should I bring the cheesecake to you? That would take me only thirty minutes”
“You do not need to go through that stress at all, we can meet up for lunch tomorrow but for tonight I have to rest” she said. She tried to calculate the time it would take for him to get to her house and it was about an hour which means he already had the cheese cake and was already on his way. “Doctor’s orders” she added at the end.
“Okay then. I will give it a great for tonight but tomorrow you already promised me lunch do not forget”
“I would never forget”
“I am glad to hear that. Do you want to hang up more on the phone?” he asked.
“I better get to bed now” she said faking a tired yawn. She had to make sure that he bought her little dhow. He made a sound at the back of his throat that allowed her to know that he bought all she had been saying. “I better get rest” she added and almost face-palmed at how stupid it was.
“Good night little one”
