Harper reminded Cade about him taking her shopping as soon as they landed. He told her to take his card and buy whatever she wanted and get back to her room after she was done.
“But you promised to come with me,” she said with a pout as they waited in the VIP arrival room for the car to be ready.
“Promised you?” Cade scoffed. “When did I do that?” he asked, raising his eyebrow.
“You have to get me clothes that I can wear to accompany you to these meetings or else I wonder how the world would love to see your assistant show up in pictures wearing a sundress or a bathing suit” she said.
Cade took a deep breath. “You know what? I can definitely handle my business by myself. You came here for vacation maybe you should take that vacation and let me work in peace” he said harshly.
Harper had to admit that Cade had changed quite a bit; he would be responsive to her tricks and give in, but she had been at it for almost ten minutes now, and it was a bit frustrating to her. No matter what she said, he would not budge. She needed people to see them outside and for them to take pictures that could spark any kind of rumour. There is no way that rumours could be good for his current marriage.
“How are you? so stubborn about getting me dressed? They are just dresses and you only have to stand there and tell me if I look good in them” she said and he shook his head.
“I did not travel that long distance to come here to help you pick clothes. If wanted to go on shopping with someone else, I would go with my wife.” She wanted to scream at him as soon as she heard his reason. How hard could it be for her to just get them together?
“What is the big deal about us getting clothes together?” she said as she paced in front of him. Cade was grateful that the lounge was quiet and empty or else someone else would have witnessed her throwing the tantrum and for no reason.
“I do not want to. There is no big deal but I do not want to” he said and she sighed.
“I know I have acted crazy in the past and that can lead to you acting like this around me with your defences so high up but I have changed and I just want to spend time with my good friend”
“Friend? Do you think we are friends?” he asked, leaning in and crossing his legs. “How on earth can we be friends? You have shown over time that you are trying to break me and my wife. How can you tell me to drop all of that and be friends with you?”
Harper was a bit delighted that he knew her plan. He did not know how she was going to do it, but it felt good to know that he knew it, and maybe that opened it up as a possibility for her. “You’re just being paranoid,” she said instead. “I know I was jealous and I acted all crazy but I guess all I needed to see was the two of you so in love for me to change my mind”
She sat beside him and leaned in. “You know if you truly love someone you would be happy as long as they are happy even if it is not with you” she said like she believed the words that came out of her mouth. She was seriously now considering a career path in acting because she was doing such a good job.
“That does not justify us being seen together in public picking clothes. If we get photographed then we could end up trending and for the wrong reasons. I came out here to find a way to raise our stock prices and not lower it so even though I might accept your apology or whatever but I have to tell you that I can not” he said.
She nodded because she knew that there was no way she was going to convince him again, all she had to do was to find another way. She had access to his schedule so she knew all the open windows and he did not know anything. The next thing for her was to make them meet at a restaurant later.
“Well, you have made a good point, and I cannot say otherwise,” she said with a sigh. “I will go with you and drop you off at the hotel. We begin big meetings tomorrow, so just rest up, and I will come back out to get the clothes,” she said before turning to him, trying to act cute before adding. “Alone”
“Send me the details for the meeting tomorrow and please check on the car and what is taking so long,” he said. She nodded stood up and walked out of the room. She came back a few minutes, she met holding hos phone with hesitation, it was like he kept rethinking the decision that he had made. She knew the reason why he was acting like that was because Green had sent a message to tell her that they were probably fighting.
“The car is ready sir” she said and he raised his head. He stood up and walked out of the room with so much grace she felt her heartbeat as she fell once again for him.
Once they had gotten to the hotel and dropped him off, Cade worked up the courage to talk to Ophelai. He just wanted to make sure that she was firn and nothing more. He called twice before he picked up, jhe was not sure if she as seeping or if she was contemplating on taking his calls.
“Hello” she said. Her voice was joyful which was strange to him because he could swear that she was pissed at him.
“Hello”
“Cade I guess you were right, Green really does like me”
