“Ms Davis, you very well know that this is a work trip.”
“I don’t know. I just thought that you were taking a trip and I was to accompany you,” Harper said. She knew the entirety of the trip. She was the reason he got this opportunity, and he was supposed to be grateful to her, but she was not going to brag about this. Her goal had not yet been accomplished, so she wasn’t going to give herself any credits yet.
“Does this mean that you did not check through the schedule and event timeline that was submitted by Cael’s assistant?” Cade said already feeling like he was cornered. He hated inefficiency, and she was already showing it; he hated that he could easily fire her. Firing her was a way of telling Abigail that the line for war had been drawn.
“Scheduel? What schedule?”
Cade took a deep sigh. Harer was going to be useless for him for the ten days, and there was no point for him to take her all the way to Nebula and just have her spend money for nothing. “Maybe you should go home because it does not seem like you would be of use to me during this trip,” he let out.
“What? Are you asking me to go home?” The wheels in her brain began to work; she had not expected that he would send her home for not doing the right thing. She thought that maybe she would be able to get away with anything she did and that by the time they were on the trip, all she had to do was seduce him.
“You are clearly not ready to go on the trip, so why do I need to waste money to pay for your ticket?” he asked and eyed her up and down before adding, “And it looks like you would be very inappropriate throughout this work trip,” he said, air-quoting the word work.
“You have gotten it all wrong; I only wore this to feel free,” she said with a chuckle. That was a lie because she did not feel one bit free. It was as if she was tied down and could not move. “I also got all necessary documents from Mr. Vale’s assistant,” she added.
Even Cael had told her to make sure she succeeded in her plan; he had also told her the importance of the deal they were going to make. They had to make sure that they secured it, as Cael was going to be in a big mess if they all fell through.
“And what about your clothes? Please tell me you packed more appropriate clothes.” He told Angru that his chance to send her back was failing. He was going to send her for being unreliable and then call for a placeholder who would help him on the trip. He would then find more reasons, such as incompetency, to make her leave his office. He knew that she was there for a plan, but he could not put it in place.
“I do not have work-appropriate clothes in here, but I can easily buy some in the new city when we arrive,” she suggested. “Maybe you can buy me some?” she added.
“You want me to buy you clothes?” Cade asked in amusement.
“I mean, if you want to reach the secretary’s office to get you a new secretary, it might take all night, and then you have to cancel your flight and rebook it, and then you would be late for your first meeting with Samsung Tech,” she said.
Cade did not respond to her; why did he need to buy her clothes when there were always secretaries on standby to assist in situations like this? He took out his phone from his pocket and called Mr. Tate, who was the overseer of the secretary’s office.
“Mr Vale? How can I help you?” Tate said over the phone.
“Yes, I have a trip today and my assistant is currently unable to go. Can you send me one of the fill-ins?” he asked. He did not want to be picky, but he hoped that they would send Sue to him. She already knew his style, and they would not crash at all.
“Oh my sir, I am very sorry all stand secretaries have been sent to a workshop and no one is available.”
“Not a single one? Am I to make a trip without any assistant?” Cade asked in amusement.
“I am sorry, sir but Mr Cael Vale sent them on this workshop and it is very important for them so they can get new skills and serve the company better.”
“My brother did? Of course,” Cade said with a nod. “So there are no secretaries available?”
“Told you so,” Harper mouthed to Cade with her head titled.
“Thank you, Mr. Tate,” Cade said, taking the phone off his ears and cutting off the call.
“What is your plan?” Cade said, taking two steps towards her.
“Plan? I am here to help you,” she said, shrugging with a coy smile on her face. “Shall we go or else we might miss the flight?” she said, walking to the car and opening the door for him. “Shall we?”
Cade took a deep breath and walked to the car. He slid in and held the door open. “I have to say that any plan you have with my brother, you should give it up before I take actions that might affect you,” he said in a warning tone.
“Cade, you act like I am the enemy,” she said. “I am only here because I care about you, and I want you to have the best life with the best love.”
“Cade? How dare a lowly assistant treat me like we are friends? We might have a history together, but we are not friends. You are my employee, and to you, I am Mr. VALE,” he replied, ignoring that she was still trying to prove that his relationship with Ophelia was not because of their love.
“Oops, Mr. Vale, I forgot about that,” Harper said, titling her head, and her tone was kind of taunting as if she were making fun of him. “Do you want to take your leg in so I can shut the door?” she added.
He took a deep breath and took his leg in so she closed the door. She gestured to the driver, and they both opened the door and got into the car.
“I shall go now,” the driver announced before starting the engine and began to skid away.
