Prescott’s POV
“Don’t!” Nova yelled, her eyes shot at me with rage. I sighed, ready to take a step closer to her but stopped when she raised her palm, stopping me from coming closer to her.
“Don’t come closer, you beast!” she screamed at me, her eyes were blazing with fury
It felt as though a bowl of chilled water was poured down on my head.
I felt my stomach ached in pain as she rushed up to her sister who was lying quietly on the floor.
“Beast!” I gasped, unable to believe my ears.
Hearing her sister call me a beast didn’t disgust me, in fact, I liked it when they called me names so it would always remind them how powerful I was.
But hearing it from Nova made it seem like my world had come crumbling down at my feet. The way she said it, the disgusting look on her face as she called me that name made me wish I could just vanish into the thin air.
“You call me a beast?” I didn’t know when the words left my mouth. My lips shivered and my voice shook as I stared at her. Hoping she would tell me she didn’t mean what she said.
Nova didn’t say anything, she sat there on the floor, flashing me those hateful glares and I felt my hands curling into tight fists.
Having no other things to say to her, I gripped the dagger claw and plucked it out of my arm. I didn’t feel any pain from the wound because the wound in my heart was deeper than the wound on my arm, or chest.
I clutched tight onto the dagger, turned on my heels and made my way out of the hallway.
Each step I took made my stomach stirred in grief. My eyes were hurting and my head seemed heavy.
“I thought I meant something to her?” I sniffed, my inside was boiling in rage. I glanced down at my shirt and my eyes caught up with the cut on my chest.
My shirt was black, it would be difficult for people to know my shirt was drenched with my blood.
‘Don’t come closer, you beast!’
Nova’s last words to me came blasting into my head. I felt the corner of my lips tugged in a sad smile, I sniffed yet again, brushing my bloodied arm on my face, wiping out the ball of sweat that had suddenly formed on my forehead.
“Beast?” I chuckled out loud that I feared anyone who was passing by would think I had hit my head against something hard.
My heart burned as my apartment came into view. One of the households had rebelled against me, the King and I should have the pack burnt down to ashes.
“But what would that make me? A beast!” I chuckled, tears rolled down my eyes as I got to the apartment.
I opened the door to my apartment, dragging my feet towards the couch with my heart breaking into a thousand pieces.
Just yesterday, she was in here, cuddling and wrapping her arms around my neck. Was that just her way of being grateful? Had I been mistaking her grateful heart for affection?
I stopped walking when I got to the couch, I plunged into the seat and mind as memories of the previous day, with Nova on the same couch came flooding my brain.
“Aargh!” I groaned, my heart ached unbearably and I gripped my chest in my palms.
My eyes seemed heavy and they were beginning to close on their own. A ball of sweat rolled down my face as I forced my eyes to remain open.
I dragged my feet off the couch and made my way to the room.
“I need to write to her.” I groaned, dragging my feet towards the study and plunged into the seat.
I grabbed a clean sheet from the table and picked a ball pen from the box, scribbling down into the sheet.
My hand trembled, but I didn’t stop writing. I hastily dropped the pen when I felt a sudden movement in my chest, causing me pain.
“Aargh!” I cried out, tears streaming down my eyes. I moved my hand to my chest, caressing my chest slowly to ease the pain.
I mink-linked Dixon, my favourite warrior and his voice echoed through my mind.
“Your Majesty!” he called, his voice coming out hoarse as usual, “Everything has been set and I’m waiting for Your Majesty,” he added, that was when I remembered where I ought to be.
At the interrogation room!
“Return the last captive to the dungeon,” I croaked, My vision was becoming blurry but I needed to fight the urge to give in to unconscious.
“Yes, Your Majesty!” he uttered, his tone was a bit unsettled and I knew he might be wondering why I changed my mind of interrogating the last captive.
“Fetch some patches and needles from the infirmary, I need you in my apartment.” I groaned, the pain was getting severe and I needed to be treated as soon as possible.
“What happened to Your Majesty?” he howled, his voice shaking as he panted heavily.
I chuckled lightly, remembering the embarrassment that had happened to me. “Get some antidote too, I think I have been poisoned!”
I cut the link as soon as I said that, didn’t want to give room for questioning. I leaned backwards, resting my head on the headrest.
I picked up the pen when I remembered I wasn’t done with the letter. My bloodied hand was on the pen, staining the white sheet as I inscribed the last paragraph on the sheet before sealing the envelope.
I threw the pen, resting my head on the headrest when I heard a sudden movement by the door. The door opened minutes later and Dixon ran in with a box in his hand.
“Your Majesty!” he howled as he ran up to me, kneeling on one knee as he placed the box on the floor.
“What happened, Your Majesty? Who dare rebel against His Majesty?” he hollered, his eyes burning with fury.
I chuckled, throwing my hands on the table.
“Just make me feel better and forget about the rest.” I forced out a smile as I raised my head off the headrest.
Dixon gulped, his gaze on my chest remained hardened as he stood up from the floor.
“Yes, Your Majesty!” he gripped my shirt and pulled it out of my body.
“When did it happen, Your Majesty?” Dixon asked, gripping my chest, and checking out the wound.
“About 15 minutes ago,” I groaned, throwing my head backwards as I felt his finger dipped into the wound.
“It hasn’t gone deep, please give me the chance to treat you, Your Majesty!” he wobbled, his voice shaking as he spoke.
“Go on!” I shut my lids as I waited for him to start the treatment.
If not the royal Doctor, no one has ever given me treatment before. I had seen Dixon, taking care of the injured during the last fight with the rogues and I knew he was capable of treating me.
I remembered the look on Nova’s face when she yelled at me to not come closer to her, I remembered how she called me a beast with a disgusting look on her face.
My fist tightened and my lips parted in pain.
“Your Majesty, does it hurt? Why are you in tears?” Dixon’s concerned voice echoed through the room, I flung my eyes open to see him staring at me with his jaw dropped.
I smiled, appreciating his concern for me, “I’m not crying because it hurt, I’m crying because I lost something so dear to me.” I sighed, moving my hand to my cheeks and wiping out the tears that kept rolling down my eyes.
“What is that thing, Your Majesty?” Dixon asked, picking up a band-aid from the box, “Tell me, Your Majesty and I will have my men get another.” he added, fixing the band-aid on my chest, and patching up the wound.
“I have already given up on that thing. It’s not necessarily anymore.” I smirked, lifting my head off the headrest.
“Oh,” Dixon sighed, fixing the little wound on my upper arm.
“Get the cars ready, we’re leaving this instance.” I stood up from the seat, walking towards the closet to fetch another shirt.
“But…” Dixon turned around to look at me, “But we are not done here.” he added, his expression a little softened as he spoke.
“We are done when I say we are.” I smiled, taking out a black Tee.
“Yes, Your Majesty!” he gave a curt nod before grabbing the box off the floor, he made to leave but I called him back.
“Before you go,” I shut my eyes and took a deep breath before opening my eyes. “Take that envelope and deliver it to Randale.” I gulped hard like never before, my hand curled into a tight fist and my heart tightened in grief.
“Tell him to deliver it to his youngest daughter,” I added before turning my back on him.
“You may leave,” I ordered, Dixon didn’t say anything, only the opening and closing of the door made me realise that he had already left.
I let out the tears I never thought I had been holding back all along. My heart ached and my mind was restless as that one question kept lingering in my mind.
“Why did she do that?”
