Nova’s POV
Walking out of the bathroom with a towel in my hand, I strolled over to the dresser with my dampened hair, wetting the floor I walked on.
I got to the dresser and sat down quietly in front of the mirror while staring at my reflection in the mirror. My hair was scattered all over my face, my eyes were red due to excess cries and I watched as more tears rolled down my eyes.
I sniffed, moving the towel to my head, absent-minded wiping my hair as my mind drifted back to earlier in the hallway.
‘She used us! She used us to get to His Majesty!’
Remembering the little voice that yelled out to me in the hallway, I jumped out of the stool, falling to the floor with my head hitting hard against the tiled floor.
My head hurt but what I was feeling in my heart hurt more than the one I was hurting in my head.
“Why did I do it? Why the hell did I agree to do it?” I sob quietly, my heart clenched as I recalled how I had stabbed Prescott with that dagger.
My hands curled into a tight fist as a wave of regret washed over me.
“He must have resent me.” I wailed, tears streaming down my eyes as I lifted my body off the floor, sitting down on the floor with my back on the wall.
‘Did you just call me a beast?’
Prescott’s last question to me made me curl up my legs, I buried my face in my thighs as hot tears rolled down my cheeks.
“I didn’t mean to say that, I swear, I didn’t mean it.” I cried out, my whimper echoed through the room and I didn’t have anyone to console me.
A thought flashed through my mind and I nodded my head to that thought.
“I need to apologise to him.” I sprang up from the floor, grabbed a hair band from the table and packed my hair up in a messy bun.
I slid my feet into the flip-flop and rushed out of my room. I know I look like a mess but all I cared about at that moment was to explain myself to Prescott.
My sight was blurry as tears had clouded my eyes. I rushed down the stairs and raced towards the exit. I made to open the door when I heard a voice, calling out to me.
“Princess,” Dad’s soft voice, calling out to me, made me halt on my track.
I slowly turned around to see him seated on the couch with his back on me.
“Dad…” I trailed off, wondering why he had to call me when he wouldn’t even turn to look at me.
“May I have a word with you?” his voice was low as he spoke, I gulped hard, wondering if his attitude had anything to do with earlier in the hallway.
‘Where is Tamsyn?’
‘Did you not say your sister is here?’
‘Why are you not saying anything?’
‘Did she get attacked?’
I could still remember Dad’s endless question to me, earlier in the hallway. I could remember how I got up from the floor and ran out of the hallway without saying a word to him.
I called him down there, and I left him and some of the guards without giving them any explanation. Did Dad want to scold me for playing a mind game with him?
My hands trembled as I rubbed my palms together.
“Dad… I need to be somewhere.” I stuttered, my lips trembled as I spoke.
“Let’s have a word before you go, Princess.” his voice remained calm even though I knew something was going on with him.
“I…”
“It’s about His Majesty!” he uttered, slowly turning around to face me.
My eyes widened in shock, and my jaw dropped as he mentioned His Majesty.
Did Prescott report the incident to my father? Did he want to punish us for rebelling against him?
My hands clenched to my side as I dragged my feet towards the SETTEE. I took the seat across from Dad with my head bowed. Not wanting to meet Dad’s gaze as he scolded me.
“His Majesty said…”
“Dad, I swear, it’s not what you think.” I sprang up from the seat, my heart thumping hard against my chest as I moved my gaze to the floor. Tears streamed down my eyes as the thought of everyone blaming me for what happened scared me to death.
“How do you know what I was thinking?” Dad questioned, I slowly raised my head, only for my gaze to meet with his furrowed brows.
“I didn’t mean to do it.” I cried out, falling on my knees as I cupped my face in my palms.
“Princess?” Dad called, his voice came out in a whisper.
I raised my head, wiping my face with my shirt. The more I wiped the more tears streamed down my cheeks, wetting my cheeks, yet again.
“I never wish to do it, I did it because she asked me to do it.” I sniffed, I gripped my knees as I sobbed quietly.
Dad sighed, he stood up from his seat and walked over to me. He squatted to my level and took my hand in his, caressing the back of my palms with his thumbs.
“Why? You shouldn’t be crying.” Dad whispered, his face lit up in a smile.
My brows knitted in shock. Why wasn’t he scolding me? Why was he at peace when I and my sister had made a grave mistake that could end our lives?
“I shouldn’t be crying?” I croaked, unable to believe Dad wasn’t scolding me as I had thought he would.
Was he aware of what we did? Had Tamsyn told him about it? Why wasn’t he saying anything?
“We all made you do it. We should be apologising to you,” he mumbled, snaking his palm to my cheek.
“What are you talking about?” I questioned, my eyes moved to his lap to see a white envelope lying on his lap.
My brows furrowed, wondering what the letter was all about.
“His Majesty left not quite long!” Dad uttered, clenching his teeth as he spoke.
“His… His Majesty left the pack?” I questioned, my voice shaking as I watched Dad slowly nod his head in affirmation.
“His Majesty left?” I yelled, my eyes widened in shock as I sprang up to my feet.
“Yes, but not without leaving you a letter.” he smiled, his face lit up as he stood up to his feet, stretching out the envelope for me to take.
My eyes did not leave Dad as the smile on his face deepened. Why would His Majesty leave a letter for me? Was that letter about my punishment? Why would he personally leave a letter of punishment for me when he could have given out my punishment that instant?
My jaw clenched as I gulped hard nervously.
“A letter?” I asked, my hands trembled as I retrieved the envelope from Dad.
I moved away from him, and snaked my hand to my head, hitching my hair before slowly taking my hand to the envelope.
I slinked my hand into the white envelope and brought out a neatly folded sheet from it.
I took a deep breath before throwing the envelope to the floor. I opened the sheet to read through my punishment with my heart thumping hard in my chest.
My eyes shimmered with tears and my head seemed heavy as I read through the letter. My lips trembled in shock as I behold what the letter was about.
“Dad,” I yelled, flapping the letter in the air, “tell me the truth, His Majesty didn’t send this.” I barked, anger surging through me as I watched the smile on my Dad’s face disappear that instant.
“It was delivered by one of the royal warriors. He said, His Majesty said I should pass it to you.” Dad mumbled, his face held an emotion of concern as he tried to move closer to me.
“Don’t!” I barked, moving away from him, “Tell me the truth, Dad, are you sure you read what was written in this letter?” I cried out, my hands shook terribly as the letter slid down from my hand.
“I did read it, and I clearly understood what was written in that letter,” he spoke, I shook my head in disgust and walked away from him.
“Where are you going, Princess?” Dad called after me.
I stopped to open the door when I got to the exit. I stretched my hand and gripped the doorknob before turning my neck to look at him.
“I’m going to the Royal Villa to meet His Majesty!” I screamed, tears flowed down my eyes as I ran out of the building.
His Majesty can’t possibly do this to me over a one-time mistake, can he? How dare he do this to me without hearing my side of the story?
Just wait until I get to the Villa, just wait until I get there, Your Majesty!
