Nova’s pov
The car pulled to a halt in an unfamiliar environment. I stared at Prescott, making sure we were in the right place before stepping down from the car.
“Are we in the right place?” I asked with my eyebrows raised.
Prescott gave a curt nod, flashing me a charming smile as I opened the door to step down from the car.
Standing on my feet, with my gaze moving around the environment. Prescott stepped down from the car and walked up to me.
“Why here?” I pointed at the quiet area, arching my brows as I stared at the empty cafe in front of us.
I have never been to a place like this and I never for once thought a place like this existed in my pack. Making me wonder how the Lycan King got to know of a place when it hasn’t been a week since he got to my pack.
“I heard there’s a place that sells great coffee around here, so I decided to come to check it out.” he grinned, sliding his hands into his pant pocket. “And I’m happy you tagged along. There’s no better way to enjoy coffee than to drink with someone.”
“Oh,” I mumbled, watching the transparent door of the cafe opened and a middle-aged man stepped outside, he was clad in a blue apron and he had a waste bag in his hand.
“Good!” I chuckled, wondering what a man like him would possibly know about coffee. No offence, but all the great coffeehouses that I know in my pack were run by young men and women.
“Shall we check it out!” Prescott beamed, taking out a hand from his pocket and gripping my hand, intertwining our hands before flashing me a toothy smile.
I arched my brows, wondering what was on his mind. The Lycan King was acting out of character since he got to my pack and I wondered what was that about.
Was he doing that to look like a good man in front of my people?
“Sure, your Majesty!” I nodded, Prescott groaned, taking out his other hand from his pocket, planting it on my head and roughing my hair.
Ahh, what’s that for?
“Call me Prescott when we’re together.” he smiled, brushing my hair with his fingers.
I gulped, staring down at my feet, a wave of awkwardness washed through me. “Yes, your Majesty… Prescott!” I chuckled, hitching my neck with my free hand.
He sure knows how to make people awkward. What’s wrong with the Lycan King?
“Okay,” he sighed, walking me towards the coffeehouse in front of us.
I heard the car drive away as soon as we approached the door. Prescott got the door for me, and together we entered the cafe.
“Hello, welcome to our shop!” a cheerful voice beamed, and a little boy jumped down from the counter.
I smiled, seeing a little boy that was full of energy.
“Hello, young one.” Prescott smiled, waving at the boy who wouldn’t stop smiling at us.
Now, he’s smiling at the kid, great! I nodded my head, staring from Prescott to the little boy who seemed to be in a smiling competition.
“Welcome, your Majesty the King, and you too, your Highness.” he bowed, with his palms joined together above his head.
Seriously? How the hell did the boy know about our identity?
“How do you…” I wanted to ask how the boy got to know. But a sudden movement on the boy made me stop midway and moved my gaze to the door.
The door opened and the middle-aged man from earlier entered the shop with his eyes on us.
“Hart, don’t bore them with your silly talks.” the man groaned, walking up to us with the apron in his hand.
Hart? Nice name! I smiled, remembering I had planned to name my son that same name if I happen to have a son in the future.
“Uncle, I’m just greeting this royal couple. It’s not every time you get to meet the royals,” he whined, thumping his foot on the floor.
“Oh, Hart,” the man chuckled, walking up to us and gripping the boy by his arm.
“Welcome you two, please take a seat while I prepare your coffee and snacks.” the man smiled while pulling the little boy to his side.
“What will you like to have?” he asked again when he didn’t earn any reply from us, staring at us with a wild smile plastered on his face.
“Iced coffee with cinnamon rolls.” I pressed my lips into a thin line, staring at Prescott to order what he would like to have.
“Um,” Prescott tilted his head, thinking of what to order. After being like that for a few seconds and couldn’t think of anything, he hissed and said, “Same. I will have the same thing she’s having.” he grumbled, his eyes on the little boy as he spoke.
“I will bring your order in a couple of minutes.” the man said while staring at the little boy. “And I’m sorry if my little boy has bored you with his childish talk.” he bowed before walking over to the counter, pulling the boy along with him.
“Uncle, what? I just want to pay my respect to the royals!” the boy groaned, trying to free his arm from the man’s grip.
“Stop uttering rubbish to customers, Hart. That was how you called a man rogue yesterday, today it’s royals. Stop chasing away our customers.” I heard the man scold the boy, he was trying his best to calm his voice, but I could still hear everything he was saying.
“Let’s take the table over there,” I said to Prescott who had his gaze fixed on the boy, he blinked rapidly when he felt a tap on his arm.
“Yes, let’s take that table.” he smiled, pulling me towards the set of tables.
He sat down on the seat that was facing outside, while I took the seat opposite him, staring at the boy who kept arguing with the man whom he had addressed as his uncle earlier.
“Do you not think that boy is lovely?” I asked, watching as the boy kept tugging at his uncle’s shirt.
“Yeah, he is.” Prescott shrugged, staring over my shoulder. “He would pass as our son, you’re a lovely lady,” he mumbled, his brows knitted as he kept staring outside of the shop.
“Oh, um,” I cleared my throat, moving my gaze away from him, even though he wasn’t staring at my face, I didn’t want him to see my flushed cheeks.
“Oh, sorry for keeping you waiting.” the man walked up to us with a tray in his hands, he placed the tray on the table and put down the items in it.
“Your order is ready. Please enjoy!” he bowed before walking away.
“Let’s see how great their coffee taste!” I grinned, picked up my coffee and took a light sip.
My eyes widened in shock, I took the cup to my mouth again and took another sip.
“Oh, my goddess! This is good! Super great!” I exclaimed, taking the cup to my mouth and gulping down a large quantity.
The bitterness of the cold coffee was there, but it was bitter in a good way. The sweetness from the full-fat milk made it hard for the bitterness of the coffee to stay on my tongue for a long time. The saltiness and sourness were perfect and I couldn’t help but to stared back at the man whom I had judged wrongly.
“Do you love it that much?” Prescott chuckled, tapping his fingers on the table. I moved my gaze from the man to Prescott to see him staring back at me.
“Of course, you should taste it, your Majesty… Sorry, I mean, Prescott.” I bit my bottom lip as I had almost made the mistake again.
“There’s no need for me to taste it before I would know. Your eyes have already judged how great the coffee is.” he smiled, crossing his arms around his chest.
I smiled, seeing how familiar I had suddenly become with his Majesty.
“Whoever tells you about this place has a great taste in coffee.” I nodded my head, agreeing with what I just said. I licked my lips, pulling the plate of snacks to myself, eyeing the mouthwatering snack in front of me.
“I bet this is going to be super delicious.” I rubbed my palms together, grabbed the fork and stabbed it into the snack.
“I will be right back.” Prescott hastily stood up from his seat, and I dropped the fork back into the plate.
“Going somewhere, your Majesty?” I questioned, standing up to my feet, “Should I come with you?” I tried getting out of the seat but Prescott shook his head.
“Sit back down, I will be back.” he rushed away from me, and I stared at him with my heart thumping hard against my chest.
I watched him walk out of the shop and I couldn’t take my eyes off him until I heard someone clearing their throats in front of me.
