Nova’s pov
“Hey, watch your step.” I helped Shayna with the door and she threw me a dirty look.
“For goddess sake, Princess?!” Shayna grumbled, eyeing my hand on her shoulder.
“I don’t know why you insisted on leaving the infirmary when you should be there for one more day.” I kissed my teeth, guarding her inside my room.
“Why are you treating me like this? I am a werewolf for goddess’ sake, and I’m completely healed.” she groaned, entering my room, her nose in the air, taking in my floral scents.
“This is my first time in this place, it is nice here, compare to the other room.” Shayna smiled, strolling towards the window with her arms wide.
“Do you think so?” I tilted my head, checking out the room like it was my first time there. “I think the other room is nice and cozy. No high windows,” I strolled to her, pushed open the Bay window, “and there’s no fear of running into the beast.” recalling that his bedroom was just opposite mine. I walked back to the bed and plunged into the silky-smooth cotton sheets.
“Oh!” Shayna shut the window and moved away from the window, “so, how often do you run into his Majesty?” she asked, taking a seat beside me on the bed.
“That shouldn’t be a question because I have never seen him anywhere around here, since that night.” I turned my back on her, laying on my side.
“I think he’s avoiding you for a reason.” Shayna chuckled, plunging into the bed, wrapping her arms around me.
“I wouldn’t ask for more.” I rolled my eyes, thinking if the Lycan King would be avoiding me as she said, what would be his reason for avoiding me? It wasn’t like he was guilty of what he did, was he?
“About that day…”
A knock came on the door, interrupting Shyana’s speech. She moved on the bed to go get the door. I tugged at her arm, pulling her back to the bed.
“You relax, I will get the door,” I murmured, standing up from the bed.
I strolled towards the exit, grabbed the knob and pulled it open. Only to review a maid by the door.
“Your Highness!” she exclaimed, then lowered her gaze to the floor.
“Yes, what is it?” I smiled, watching her stretch forth her palms, showing a black envelope.
“It’s from his Majesty, the King!” she blurted out.
I took the envelope from her and eyed it. “Black envelope?” I hissed, tearing it open. “You may leave.”
The maid scurried away and I pressed my back to the wall, checking out the content of the letter. My eyes widened and my body tensed in shock.
“Shayna, stay right here, I will be back.” I rushed out of the building, praying to the goddess to let me meet the Lycan King before he leave the Royal villa.
My heart was pounding as I raced down the hallway, my steps were quick and light. The Lycan King had just written to me that there was a problem at my father’s pack and he was on his way to my pack.
A part of me couldn’t believe what I had just read and a part of me was screaming to go see him before he left the royal villa, only if he was telling the truth.
My steps were fueled by fear and uncertainty, and I felt as if I was floating as I ran. The minutes seemed to fly by, and before I knew it, I was standing in front of the royal office, out of breath and staring with my eyes welled up with tears.
The door flung open to reveal the Lycan king and three other men, trailing behind him with their cold gazes fixed on me.
They stopped right in front of me, Prescott slid his hands into his pant pocket, grinning hard at me.
“Your Highness!” the guys bowed to me before walking away, leaving me alone with Prescott who wouldn’t stop grinning sheepishly at me.
“Yes, my Queen?” he smirked, taking a few steps closer, closing the little space between us.
“Your Majesty?” my voice shook as I spoke, I gulped down the sudden lump that formed in my throat.
“How I wish I could take you with me, so we could both watch how your family, together with the people in your pack got killed by those bloodthirsty rogues. It would be quite entertaining, right?” Prescott smirked, snaking his hand to my hair.
I moved away from him, my breath hitched and I felt my chest tighten in fear.
“Please, help us. You’re the only one who can help us in this.” my desperate plea echoed in the air, my voice shaking with the fear of what might happen if he chose not to help.
The Lycan King stared at me with a wild grin plastered on his face. He raised his brows and smirked down at me.
“Please, I’m begging you,” I continued since it seemed like he was enjoying me being this way, as every one of my words tinged with fear. “You’re the only one who can save us from this horrible situation.”
My heart was pounding in my chest, my mind was racing as I tried to think of a way to change his mind from turning his back on us.
Prescott lowered his gaze to meet mine, he moved his hand to my face and tugged a strand of hair behind my ear.
Strangely, I didn’t feel disgusted with him touching my hair and I felt I was so desperate to have him help me that I couldn’t find it in me to hate him at that moment.
“Why should I help you?” he smiled wildly, showing me his one-side dimple. “Why should I help someone like you?”
I bit my lower lip, and a wave of regret washed through me. If I had sided with him, concerning the matter with the elders, would he have helped me without a second thought?
“What do you want?” I mumbled, my fear knew no bounds as he moved his face closer to my ear, pressing his warm lips to the skin on my ear, then whispered.
“You will go back to the elders, and find a way to make them realize why I should have the nation at my feet, your progress will determine the fate of the people in your pack, dear wife!”Shiver ran down my spine as he whispered those words to my ear, he tapped my shoulder and gave me a devilish smirk before walking away from me.
I turned around to have a last look at him before he would enter the car. He winked at me just the moment the backseat door of a black car opened for him.
“Thanks for seeing me off, dear wife!” he blew a kiss at me before entering the car.
I clenched my fist as I watched the two cars drive off from my sight. I hit my chest with my fist as I recall what he had just said to me.
‘You will go back to the elders, and find a way to make them realize why I should have the nation at my feet, your progress will determine the fate of the people in your pack’
Just how was I going to plead with the elders when I bluntly disagree with them without giving it a second thought?
