Chapter 34
DAVINA’S POV
The way things are done here is so different. Can’t I make a decision, or do they just think I’m a weakling? I stare at the girls, and silence settles around us. Oh, please! Is it wrong to decide who I want? I thought, staring at Juanita. It seems she’s more deeply ingrained in the group and quite knowledgeable about how things are run.
“Can’t I get him back?” I asked again, shrugging at them.
“If someone else had fired him, you might use your Luna influence to get him back,” Benedict explained. Not satisfied, I cleared my throat…
“Who has the authority to terminate and hire an employee?” I inquired, and the women exchanged hesitant glances.
“The Alpha’s right-hand man, the Beta, his mate, the Luna, and Cadence, his mistress,” Cassy uttered nervously as she slogged down her saliva.
“Cadence? Wait, Cadence? The same Cadence?” I yelled, my eyes widening as I blankly stared at Cassy.
“If the Alpha terminates any of these employees, they do not have the authority to rehire someone who was terminated by the Alpha. If they do so, there will be consequences-
“What are consequences?”
“Down the dungeon or death,” Juanita replied.
“But if Beta Javier was the one who happened to fire Grady, can I hire him back?”
“Yes, you can. So far, it’s not the alpha,” they replied.
“Okay, you can take your leave,” I ordered. They bowed before leaving the room one after the other. The door was shut quietly, and I gazed at Tammy. She was just staring at me, not saying a word.
“Do you want to stay with me?” I asked. She nodded and came a bit closer to me.
“Do you like it in Daddy’s room?”
“I don’t, but I can’t say if I truly do. Do you want us to leave here and go elsewhere?”
“No, but promise you won’t let him know if I take you to his private room,” she said, pouting her lips and waving her pinkie finger for a pinkie promise. I chuckled and agreed to it. Getting close to his daughter might not seem to be a bad decision, but she stood up and dragged me playfully from the bed.
“What if Tristan comes back to his room to check on me or in case of an emergency?” I asked, feeling uneasy about the whole situation.
“No, he can’t. If he comes back at night like you said, he won’t think to check his private room.” She shrugged and turned the doorknob. A soft gasp escaped my lips as I stood in front of a mesmerizing clothing section. When I turned around, I saw another section for shoes.
“Wow!”
“Wow??? Your room has this too unless you haven’t discovered it yet?” She replied, opening a skull suture.
“What are we discovering? The clothes rack and shoes too!” I asked, still shocked at the interior designer’s creativity. She entered some passcodes to unlock Tristan’s private room.
“You’re an introvert. Didn’t you tidy your room?” she asked, waving at me to stay focused.
“No, I didn’t. The girls just brought in a few clothes for me to select,” I responded, taking the steps leading to the basement while she was leading.
“Oh! Daddy selects those, you were to select the best one…”
“Oh, I did for yesterday’s party.”
“And you went missing after.” She laughed and I did too.
“Here we are .” She announced and pushed a door open.
“Wow,” I mumbled breathlessly at the sight of it.
Welcome to Daddy and my private room. He loves painting, and I love knitting. We come here when he has fewer pack issues-
“Is that Cadence?”I mumbled as I stared at the picture right in front of me.
“Yes, his mistress,” she replied. “Were you even listening?” she asked, sounding a bit hurt.
“Yeah, kiddo. You love knitting.”
“Oh, I thought you weren’t listening. You don’t like Cadence?” she asked. I coughed as I accidentally inhaled my saliva, then shifted my gaze from Cadence’s portrait to her face.
“I don’t know what you are talking about!” I said, denying and shrugging at her. She scoffed.
“You made it obvious-
“I did?!” I faked a shocked face.
She pulled me to a low, comfy four-seat chair, sat me down, and then rushed to pick up her knitting materials.
I don’t like Cadence either; we have that in common.
“So???”
“Makes us best friends,” she giggled, handing me a knitting needle and some yarn.
“Cadence doesn’t seem to like me, but she pretends to when I’m around Daddy. However, you were different. You took me out the first time, and Daddy got mad at you for it, but he doesn’t mind when Cadence does-
“He was angry with me that day because we left the pack without an escort. Every father will understand,” I explained, and she nodded, understanding.
I selected some wool and decided to start knitting, but I couldn’t concentrate. Cadence has the authority to dismiss an employee, and I don’t want to become upset about it. As I entered his private room, the first thing I noticed was her picture. What better explanation for “I care about you”? He doesn’t care about me.
I looked around for a while and noticed a nature portrait. I also spotted another woman’s portrait at the far end of the room.
“Who is she?” I asked, and she followed the direction my finger was pointing to.
“My mom, Daddy said she’s is, I don’t know if she’s truly one.” She answered back while knitting. I stood up and walked close to the portrait.
“She’s pretty, you have her facial features,” I uttered. Lost in the stares of the portrait, then a painting got my attention…
A black huge wolf, standing on a cliff. Have seen this somewhere, I thought and it came to my realization that the creature in my dream earlier was what was in the painting…
“Oh my gosh!” I gasped, trying to catch my breath.
“Are you okay?” Tammy reached out.
The same way it had stood on the hill in my dream, the same way it was in the portrait.
“Did Tristan draw this?” I stuttered not taking my gaze away from it.
“Are you okay? She asked and stood up.
“I’m not, can we leave here please?” I held her hands and she nodded walking me out of the basement, my eyes didn’t leave the portrait till it was out of sight.
“Is this a message or
