Chapter 31
DAVINA’S POV
I arrived at my door and attempted to enter, but it was locked. I furrowed my brow, still shocked at what had just occurred. I tried the handle again and again and again.
“Ugh! Where are these girls?”I groaned as I ran my hand through my hair. I don’t want to be seen at the pack because I don’t know if the whole pack house was aware of what happened to their Luna last night. Rumors tend to spread like wildfire, and I don’t know how far this has gone.
I felt weak, and a bit dizzy. “Why am I feeling this way?” I thought, reaching to the wall for support.
“Lexie?” I weakly reached out, but all I got was silence. Maybe she’s exhausted after yesterday’s rough fight.
“Get back inside,” Tristan said from the hallway. I was startled because I wasn’t expecting anyone to be there.
“When did you arrive?” I mumbled, trying to regain my balance, which I did.
“When did you become obstinate and forbid my orders?” He asked loudly, his deep voice still resounding.
“I don’t like it when you think everything can be done just because you ordered. Call my girls to come back here. They are the ones I need, not you,” I mumbled
“You need me, not your maids-
“Stop calling them maids. Better still, workers are fine in respect of maids,” I argued, trying to breathe properly. The way I was feeling was just one hell of a pain I had not experienced before. It was just weird. I lost balance and I saw myself falling.
Tristan came through at that moment and caught me before I could fall. “You are not fully healed, Davina. If you keep acting strong, it will only make you appear weak. So, listen to me,” he yelled, trying to get me adjusted in his arms. I stared at him. For a second, he had a worried expression, looking concerned, and then he switched. I think he noticed me staring at him.
He has a soft side, but refuses to show it, how bad and deep is this wound? His soft side is so sweet, makes me want to have more of it, I don’t mind spending the whole day in his arms. I return my gaze at him, he is handsome, with attractive features.
“Will you ever give love a chance again?” I found myself asking. I don’t know what pushed me to ask, but this good-looking man deserves to be loved. I stared at him, down to his lips, anticipating them to move, curious about his response.
He chuckled “Are you in love with me, Davina?”
Oh, this man! Here we go again! He’s always skipping questions which will make him do a lot of talking.
It’s a straightforward question, Alpha Tristan. I wasn’t expecting a question in response to the one I asked,” I responded as he gently placed me on his bed. He tried to turn away, but I pulled him back. It was clear he was trying to ignore the question. Pulling him back at that moment seemed like the wrong decision. My mouth watered, I swallowed hard, and my heartbeat quickened.
He gave me a cool stare, looking deep into my eyes. I didn’t break the stare, and neither did he. I felt a rush of emotions as my hand continued to clutch his clothes. He brought his face closer to mine, and our breaths mingled.
“Should I break the stare and gently push him away?” I thought still staring at him.
“Why is he not blinking at all??? Have blinked so many times.” I screamed in my head.
“uhm-uhm.” I cleared my throat, trying to distract him.
“Is that a YES to have your lips?”
Stuttering, “No,” I pushed him back, and he backed off quietly. My gaze followed his movement as he lay beside me. He said nothing, and I felt like a plague.
“Tristan?!”
“Shh. You need to rest and have more energy,” he mumbled and pulled me close to him. He wrapped his arms around me. “Wow, a cuddle,” I mumbled, still surprised.
“Never got one before?” He asked and I nodded.
“Just from my best friend-
“Male?” He cut in and I chuckled.
“Is that jealousy?” I laughed because of the way he cut in, it was so fast and it looked so obvious he was for a second. He might be jealous but I wasn’t sure.
“No female. Her name is Levy, we did almost everything together before I was sold to you.” I detailed and hummed.
“How did you know I was absent yesterday?” I asked, turning around. Now we are facing each other; he gazes at me for a while before responding.
I sent men after you, but they returned saying they couldn’t find you. I had to stop what I was doing and search extensively. That’s when I found you by the stream. You did a great job because the rogue was already dead when we arrived, and you were barely alive.
“The rogue? Dead? They were two not one!”
“Two rogues, in my territory??” He exclaimed and sat up immediately.
“Tell me what transpired.” He asked with a serious facial expression.
“They said I have your scent on me and gave me no explanation. Then they attacked me. I fought with them for a while before Lexie took over completely. I don’t know what happened, but she said she would take care of it. I woke up in your bedroom,” I explained, shrugging at him.
“Ask Lexie-”
“I tried to reach her but she’s not responding.”
“She’s still sleeping. Let’s give her time to get a proper rest.” He added and stood up.
“Wait a minute, Tristan. You said one was dead and the other one?”
“Not there.”
“It escaped-
“Exactly! Rogues rarely give up on their target. It’s either the target dies or they die.” He explained and I arched my brows.
“So??”
“So the thing is, Who are you, Davina?”
