Chapter 30
DAVINA’S POV
My heart kept racing, I felt so frightened, alone in the thick forest, and my toes were badly hurt. Still, it was the least of my problems at the moment, I just wanted to escape from what was after me, and my sight became blurry all of a sudden, the strange creature was humongous in sight, I paused to scan my surroundings as fear vibrate down to my bones. I let out a sigh of relief, just when I thought I had lost the mysterious animal, it bounced on me, and I screamed in fright, making me fall on my back, I crawled backward on the wet soil, shivering, my lips tremble as I tried to escape it.
How could I control my tears any better? I couldn’t comprehend what was in front of me, but it looked so scary that I stopped moving. When I looked back, there was no road, just a vast ocean. I gasped, tucking my hair behind my ear. Slowly, I raised my head to get a clear look at whatever was after my life.
My face displayed a look of shock, attempting to speak, but I stuttered my words, unable to articulate anything coherent. I clasped my hands together, wearing a somber expression.
“Please,” I stuttered, biting my lip in fear as the creature took its final step. I wasn’t sure what it might do next, but I was desperately trying to keep my composure while silently praying that it would let me go.
And then, it happened so fast: “Aaaahhhhh!” I screamed as I watched myself plummet into the deep blue ocean. I gazed up, locking eyes with the creature perched on the hill. It had deliberately shoved me into the sea.
Then, a voice echoed, ‘Remember your roots.’
*Splashing* into the water, I struggled to catch my breath. As a bad swimmer, it was terrifying – the struggle kept pulling me back and down.
“Ahh, I cried out in fear, placing my hand on my chest and moving my fingers to my forehead, the drips of sweat settled on it.
“What a difficult and scary nightmare!” I mumbled, still trying to catch my breath. I noticed that the room had a different atmosphere with the curtains drawn, creating a warm and relaxed vibe. Although it was morning, the room was dimly lit.
“Huh?”I looked around and caught a whiff of a fresh, herbal scent, often associated with notes like basil, mint, or grass.
“Herbs? Medicine?” I was perplexed. Wait, I was at a river a while ago. Did Tristan step out to look for me, or did he feel I was in danger? I turned to the left side of the bed, and there he was, deep in a peaceful slumber.
“Is this real?” I mumbled. I wondered if he had noticed that I was in danger yesterday, or if it was the mate bond affecting him. He made me sleep in his room, on his bed. It all happened so suddenly. I moved closer to him, so close that my breath was touching his skin.
“Thought I disgust you,” I whispered.
“Why don’t you just enjoy the moment before I change my mind-
Does it look like I care? There’s nothing special about your bed-
“Oh?!” He exclaimed with a shocked expression all over his face.
“It gave me a nightmare! There’s nothing special about it,” I rolled my eyes sarcastically at him.
He chuckled, “A nightmare? That was because you had a rough night,” he replied. I sighed and rechecked to see if there were still marks on my body.
You pitied me and laid me on your bed. I don’t need that pity!
Wow! I’m surprised because you are acting differently-
Because you feel like I’m just a thing that doesn’t deserve to be respected, even though I am of good use to your pack!
You really had a rough night,” he uttered. “The rogues? How many”
“That’s none of your business, by the way, I will handle myself –
Handle yourself? He laughed, kept laughing, and said, “You claim you can handle yourself even though you were lying dead in the forest, in a stream?”
“What’s so funny?” I shrugged, staring at him. He kept on laughing, over and over again. I took a moment to stare at him and realized this was the first time I caught a glimpse of him laughing.
He attempted to catch his breath while I sat there, staring at him. I deserved an explanation because my words were not meant to be comical.
“Funny, you think I cared about you,” he laughed. My heart sank as his words hit me, feeling like it shifted from its right position down to my stomach. I wanted to reply, but I found myself unable to form the words.
I smiled, painfully. “You are the top tier of the heartless people I ever met, I never knew there were monsters like you apart from mother and brother. I guess the moon goddess didn’t bless me with caring loved ones around me. Nevertheless, I stood up, and his gaze followed my movement, but that wasn’t my concern at the moment.
“Sit your ass down, woman!” he ordered. I proceeded to ignore him like a plague as I walked to the door…
“What does he take me for?” I pondered as I stood motionless by the door.
“Don’t anger me, Davina!” He roared as I unlocked the door and turned the knob. In one swift movement, he pulled me away from the door, pinning me against the wall with fury on his face.
He whispered, “Do you enjoy making me mad?” as I rolled my eyes.
“I have no words for you, Tristan. Free me from your grip!” I yelled, struggling to free my hand as it happened to be above my head. He was just so strong, and the grip was harmless if I didn’t struggle with him, but I’m not just going to sit and let him have his way with everything.
“Feeling sassy right now? Huh?” He whispered in my ear. I could feel his breath on my ear and his lips on my neck. I shut my eyes, trying to catch my breath, fighting back the urge to reciprocate his touch. It was tough, but I had to. He knows I love him, but playing around with my feelings is just so harsh and heartless.
“I am not Candace, I am Davina, your Luna, and Mate.” I pushed him off, and gazed at him firmly, “And you need to respect that title!” I spat, angrily turning away from him and I slammed the door so hard.
“Ugh!”I couldn’t help but chuckle as I remembered how speechless he was when I pushed him.
“Serves him right.”
