Chapter 24
AUTHOR POV
“Sometimes I wonder if you have a conscience, Juanita.” Came Cassy’s voice, pained and frustrated. Unbothered Juanita, moving the boxes while getting a hand from Benedict.
“Juanita!”
“What?!”
“Seriously!” Carla mumbled while she dropped the clothes on the bed.
“Acting aloof and giving the cold shoulder to Luna won’t help her during her stay here-
“And be free with her won’t appear disrespectful???!” Juanita cut-in.
“No, because it will be private, Juanita, I’m scared for Luna, I don’t want anything happening to her the way it happened to the previous Luna.”
“What are you suggesting?” Benedict asked as she directed her gaze at her Cassy. Juanita on the other hand was just blank, patiently ready to listen to Cassy’s ideas.
“Why don’t we build a friendship with the Luna, know more about her, her fears and worries instead of being housemaids that know nothing about her, I also have a feeling that’s what she wants.”
“Huh. I don’t think so. ” Carla added and Cassy shook her head in disapproval.
“No, you girls didn’t take the time to study her. She took Tammy’s nanny out of the picture by exposing her wrong deeds. In that aspect, we didn’t do our job despite our promise to take care of her for her mom, but Luna did, just in the many weeks she came in. She’s trying to build something with the Alpha’s daughter. Why don’t we build one with her? She said it herself, girls,” Cassy stomped her feet on the ground, hoping she could get them around.
“Benedict, Carla… ” Cassy called with a pleading face.
“You know we can’t trust Luna just because she said we should be free with her,” Benedict uttered with a worried face.
“Trust isn’t something that happens all at once. It’s built gradually over time. I think she’s wondering if she can trust us. We can make her feel safe because she’s obviously in good hands unless anyone has bad intentions for Luna,” Cassy stated confidently.
“Bad intentions for the Luna?” Juanita questioned. Her demanding facial expression left no room for evasion.
“Oops, that didn’t sit well with her.” Cassy thought but sneered it off.
“No one has bad intentions for Luna Davina,” Benedict reassured everyone in the room. “She’s in our care, and if anything should happen to her, Alpha Tristan will hold us responsible. So, I agree with Cassy’s suggestion. The sooner we start building, the better it will be for everyone.
Carla giggled and nodded repeatedly, “I’m in, Cassy. Let’s get close to Luna. She seems nice and stress-free.”
Now, only one person remains the coldest of them all, a senior pack maid, but not the leader. Juanita watches them with keen interest.
“Oh, you waiting for me.” She smiled, letting out a sarcastic laughter.
“I will do it my way.” That being said, she stood up and walked out of the room, not sparing them a glance. Leaving the girls to seethe with anger.
She popped her head in, from the door.
“The last person should lock the Luna room. Start there if you want her to stay safe from Cadence,” she said before storming off toward the maid’s quarters.
The girls looked at each other and laughed as they scurried to finish cleaning the room.
DAVINA’S POV
My lips parted with a warm smile and I tightened my grip on his hands. He might not be as bad as they tagged him but still, I can’t judge based on a one-time compliment, I cleared my throat after having a few thoughts with myself as I decided to wave that happy part of me.
“Get in.” His voice jolts me out of my thoughts, it comes to my notice that I’m actually in front of a black SUV Jeep that will drive us to the venue.
I nodded and proceeded to get in but I nearly fell back, Tristan was quick to catch me.
“He mumbled, “Watch your back and your steps.” I nodded nervously as I took a seat and watched him walk to the other car door. He got in, which was very demure.
The ride to the venue was quiet, well it was quiet from my side, just staring through the window while he was busy making calls, we had escorts right behind us and I felt safe.
“Are you okay?” came his voice, snapping me out of my thoughts.
Nervously “Oh yeah, I’m fine.”
“You don’t look fine, your guard called you twice but got no response. I had to call you myself.”
” I’m sorry, I was just lost in thoughts. I responded and directed my gaze to my guard as Tristan claimed he was my guard. “Is there any problem?”
“No, my Luna, I want to address myself fully to-
“While on the seat?”
Tristan interrupted the young man with a formidable voice, causing the young man’s expression to change from a smile to one of fear and regret.
“He couldn’t believe it as he chuckled while adjusting his tie. “You want to talk to your Luna while you’re seated? Seriously?”
“It’s fine, Tristan,” I mumbled without sparing a glance, unable to stand the sight of his little glare, if he was giving me one.
Respectfully, no further words were spoken. The guard bowed, and I nodded, looking away.
The long journey was abruptly interrupted when our car came to a halt. My chauffeur gestured towards his seat as he hurried to open the door for me. Tristan exited without hesitation.
“We are here Luna.” My guard mumbled.
“Oh, I realized that I was expecting one big party, but it turned out to be a simple gathering with decorations on the exterior.
“I’m your personal escort. I will always accompany you wherever you want to go.”
“Walk me to my dressing room?”
“Definitely not! My Luna.”
I laughed at how quickly he responded; the fear was visible on his face.
“So I have five colleagues with me. “It’s great to have you all with me. I hope we get along excellently,” I said as he escorted me into the building. I looked around to see if I could catch a glimpse of Tristan, but he was out of sight. I walked down a large, narrow hallway, leaving me curious.
My jaw dropped at the end of it. “Oh wow, I mumbled after seeing an exclusive immense party.”
“Look who’s here?!” That voice… I thought, that familiar voice.
