SCARLET’S POV
The case of Lord Farley’s wife, Mrs. Farley was not an easy one.
She has been down with a terrible fever and has deteriorated so badly that and was almost on the verge of giving up when we first met her. Since then, we devoted so much time to her, considering the status of Lord, Farley and how dear she was to him.
Today just like every other day, I and Chamlee arrived at dusk to administer her medication to her. She was seated on a stool by the door when we arrived and was all smiles when she saw us.
“I can see you are doing amazing today” I commended with a big smile.
“My lady, Madame has been doing great today. Your drugs have been very effective. She can now walk around the house without any assistance. Lord Farley is very pleased” The maid that was standing beside her happily announced her improvement to us.
“You are welcome Sabrina,” Mrs. Farley said slowly.
“See you are great today” Chamlee smiled.
“Yes, Louis, I feel amazing” she smiled.
We sat on the bench with her, while she talked about so many things.
I intentionally led her on in the discussion, until she got to the issues of politics.
Since we got to this land, we have not been able to find out any useful fact that would inform my decision on the rogues and I was almost tempted to leave and maybe accept their offer of an alliance.
However, any issue pertaining to the welfare of my people should be dealt with very critically and that was why I decided to hold on a little as I would not want to take any rash decision that might jeopardize the lives and safety of my people.
“Yes, the war. It has been lingering for a long time now. We the rogues are secluded and away from it all, but who knows how long that is going to last” Mrs. Farley said.
“And what are the plans for the war?” I asked, happy that the discussion was taking place.
“Hmm…” she sighed and continued. “We can’t take sides with either of the parties. The three brother Packs are possessive and Dark Age can never be trusted. We just want to remain free” she replied.
“And what if it gets here, I mean the war?” Chamlee asked.
She inhaled and shook her head. “We would have to fight for our freedom” she replied.
“But I thought this land was ready to form an alliance” I murmured. I don’t want to sound too loud.
“An alliance?” she asked. “But then I have never heard of such. I have been sick for too long and no rogue would give his right away” she said.
“I thought I overheard something of that nature” I murmured.
“Oh, that with the Pixies?” she exclaimed. “The queen said she does not want our allegiance. I guess we would make do with ourselves for now”
“And what do you think about that?” I was careful not to appear too inquisitive or ambitious before her. “I mean the supposed alliance” I added.
“I think we would have to stand alone. Going to the Pixies was an effort in futility. It should never have happened in the first place” she murmured with a yawn.
“Oh… maybe I have to check you now,” I said and tried to appear nonchalant with the topic of the war.
“No, no… let’s talk more. I have been indoors this whole time and will not gladly go back in” she protested much to our delight.
“I think Mrs. Farley is right, Sabrina, she should have some fresh air. We can remain here and when she is about to retire for the night, we can administer her medication and be on our way” Chamlee said.
“Oh… thanks, Louis. I do need some little relaxation” she smiled.
“I don’t know, but I am not too comfortable with the whole issue of war” I murmured.
“It is nothing, dear, we rogues live for wars” she smiled again.
“And what will become of the Pixies? They refused to render help didn’t they?” Chamlee asked.
“I doubt if anyone has ever thought of that. But I know that Lord Nathan would never go against someone without first being attacked. The Pixies did nothing wrong” she replied with a look of worry.
“Oh, I see” I murmured.
She giggled. “But who are we against the Pixies?”
“I heard they are undefeatable” Chamlee murmured.
“Their queen is great, so I heard” she sighed. “But I don’t think we would ever have enough to offer her” she relayed her fear.
“Enough…” I was intrigued.
“Yes, Sabrina, what do we have to offer for her help? We just have to prepare to defend ourselves” she murmured.
“But then, the battle may never get here, right?” Chamlee inquired.
“It should not. But considering who Dark Age is, after defeating the brother Packs, he would definitely come for the north” she replied. “It would want to expand its territory” she added quietly.
She was right. Maybe I was wrong for refusing the rogues. Dark Age is only going to build up a strong force for themselves after the war. How would we be able to defeat them then?
“It is getting late, Mrs. Farley. We need to get you in now so you can have dinner and take your medications. Hopefully, you will be completely better in the next couple of days” I said.
“Oh… thanks, Sabrina. I have almost forgotten what time it is. We will send your money over tomorrow” she smiled faintly. She had already spent so much time outside and it was telling on her pretty face.
“That is not a problem, Mrs. Farley, your good health is enough payment” I smiled.
“But then you deserve a handsome payment for a good job” she replied in a soft tone.
Chamlee held her by the hand and led her inside.

CHAMLEE’S POV
“What do you think about them?” I asked on our way back.
She heaved. I could see the worried look on her face. “It is a tough decision. You heard them, they want freedom” she replied.
“They are not ready to give up anything” I murmured.
“But we need to prepare against Diamond Cut. On our own, we don’t have a chance against them” she said.
I sighed. Going against Diamond Cut on our own might be a death wish on our part. We need forces, and strong allegiance. The rogues are not the best, but their strength would go a long way in the battle.
I don’t know what Chamlar is going to decide in this state of great dilemma, but I pray it does not lead to our destruction. I held her hands gently while we walked on.
“Hey Mr. and Madame, please could you help us…” a voice said behind me.
I looked back and saw two ladies standing behind us, with the second lady a little distance away, her face covered in a veil. For some reason, she was trying to hide her face.
“Yes, how can I help you, lady?” I asked.
“We just arrived here. We are lost and need help” she begged.
“What do we…” I turned to Chamlar to get her approval, but surprisingly, she was some distance away from me.
I looked at the ladies again, they were in dire need. It was already dark, but I could see their distress. Obviously, they have been walking for days.
“Hey, Sabrina” I called out to Chamlar but she did not look my way. “Hold on,” I said to them and went over to Chamlar.
“You will have to let them go. We should leave immediately” Chamlar said as soon as I reached her.
She had her veil slightly over her face and tried as much as she could not to look at any of the ladies.
Seeing her discomfort at the presence of the ladies, I held her hands and led her home without paying any attention to the ladies.
