VIOLET’S POV
I was walking down the aisle of the grocery store when I heard her voice. I could not be wrong, even though I have heard that voice only once, I can recognize it anytime any day.
But what would she be doing in a place like this one? It is not her duty to come shopping for groceries? I sighed and continued with my shopping.
I must be wrong and moreover, it is not out of place for people to have the same voice and it will be difficult to tell one from the other.
It was when I heard the voice that sounded like that of Tabitha that I knew that it was too coincidental to be a coincidence. So I turned back and traced my steps to where the voice was coming from. And then I saw her, she was there with Tabitha and one other servant.
As soon as I had ascertained that she was the one, I was going to turn and act like I had not seen her but then they all turned and looked in my direction. They must have noticed that someone was staring at them and then they decided to see who that was.
And now I cannot just walk away even though that was what I so much desired to. The luna recognized me and so I must pay the requisite homage to her. So reluctantly, I walked up to them. I was going to say hello and then continue with what I came for. Or maybe I will leave this shopping and come some other time or I could just go do my shopping at another grocery store.
“Hey, good day, luna” I forced some smile.
“Hmm… Violet, right?” she inquired.
Too many guts and rudeness. Who does she take herself to be? If I could recognize her then I see no reason why she should not do the same. I do not blame her though, she is the luna after all and who am I, just a commoner.
“Yes, luna. I am Violet” I made yet another pretentious smile.
She smiled too and turned her face away.
I felt so belittled by her show of arrogance and I wanted to drop my grocery basket right there and walk out of the grocery store. But on giving it a second thought, I felt that would not be the best approach in this situation.
Elise had asked me to get close to her right? I think I must use this rare privilege to achieve that. But then how would I be able to start up a conversation with her? Will she be willing to associate with me considering that we were once rivals?
When she saw that I was still standing there without making any attempt to go away, she asked. “Can I help you with anything, Roselet? Oh, pardon me, what is the name again?”
“Violet, luna, my name is Violet” I smiled.
“Okay, then answer my question” she instructed and went back to her action on the shelves.
Everyone said that she is so kind and courteous, but the lady speaking to me right now has none of such attributes. Or was she just trying to make a mockery of me and act like I was irrelevant to her? But whatever might be the case, I will make her pay someday. She cannot just mock me in front of her worthless servants and expect me to swallow it as if nothing had happened.
“This is the make I bought the last time, luna. The one I used in preparing the chicken sauce that you said you love. But this one has some honey in it” Tabitha said when Scarlet took one of the condiments.
“Honey?” Scarlet asked.
“Yes, my luna” Tabitha affirmed.
“Then we must take it. My husband, Jake would love to have these in every of his meal. So make sure we get as many cartons of these” Scarlet said.
…My husband, Jake… Did she just openly refer to my Jake as her husband? Yes I know they are married but it should have been me in her stead if Jake had not betrayed what we shared.
I will get Jake back. And I don’t care how long that would take me or what it will cost me. The only that can make me happy right now is kicking her out of my Jake’s life.
“Yes, ma’am” Tabitha replied.
“Okay, that will be all. Now you know all I want, instruct the manager to send our orders this evening” Scarlet ordered.
“Oh, you came for the shopping yourself” I exclaimed.
She turned to me and acted as if she was shocked to see that I was still here. “You are here, Miss…” she asked.
“Miss Violet, my luna. I am impressed to see you in a place like this” I replied.
“Yes, I am come here but not too often. It is about my kitchen stuff and so I must ensure that all the things I use are gotten from the right place” she replied.
Is it just me, or was she intentionally acting proudly just to spite me. Anyways she’s got the laugh today, but tomorrow will surely be my turn, that I promise her.
“That is impressive, luna, I do have a great deal to learn from you. And I don’t know if you care about having me around” I craftily shot my shots.
“That sounds like a great idea, Vio…” she tried to recall my name but waved the idea away “Forget it,” she said. “You see, I feel honoured by your kind words but I am a very busy person. You know how tedious it gets for a luna, right?” she giggled like she was explaining some adult issues to a kid. I don’t blame her. it was I that brought myself to stand before her so she has the latitude to be as pompous as she wants to be.
Without waiting for my response, she said to her servants. “Now we have to go”
SCARLET’S POV
I wonder why she was been so nice. I have not seen or heard of her again after that first day in my kitchen. I am happy I was able to pass the message across to her the very first time that she tried her arrogance with me. Now I can see how uneasy it was for her standing right before me. And for someone that was too proud and so full of herself, I can tell that she wishes for the ground to open and swallow her.
“Then we must take it. My husband, Jake would love to have these in every of his meal. So make sure we get as many cartons of these” I said.
Right now, I don’t care about her feelings. I was intentionally been mean to her and I talk about my husband in such a romantic way because of her attitude that day. Now she will understand that I am not a lady to be pushed by anyone in case she was thinking of trying her mischievousness with me again.
Secretly, I caught a glimpse of her reaction when she heard me talk about my husband. She appeared to be provoked but tried to conceal it.
“Yes, ma’am” Tabitha replied.
“Okay, that will be all. Now you know all I want, instruct the manager to send our orders this evening” I ordered.
“Oh, you came for the shopping yourself” Violet exclaimed.
“You are here, Miss…” I acted like I could not recall her name.
She was trying to be sarcastic and I must make her know that I can beat her in this game.
“Miss Violet, my luna. I am impressed to see you in a place like this” she replied.
“Yes, I am come here but not too often. It is about my kitchen stuff and so I must ensure that all the things I use are gotten from the right place” I explained.
“That is impressive, luna, I do have a great deal to learn from you. And I don’t know if you care about having me around” she said.
She is truly an amazing actress. Someone that would gladly shoot at me without blinking an eyelid if given a weapon is acting all nice and cool and eager to see me again. I wondered where she was going with this, but I don’t have time for her kind.
“That sounds like a great idea, Vio…” I intentionally struggled with remembering her name “Forget it” I waved my hands. “You see, I feel honoured by your kind words but I am a very busy person. You know how tedious it gets for a luna, right” I tried to act nice.
I turned to my servants and instructed them. “Now we have to go”.
I walked away and they followed me behind, leaving Violet to herself.
It is clear that to me she would be wondering what she was going to do with her life as she watches me leave without bothering about her presence. But then, no matter what she decides on, this should be the last time she would dare to accost me anywhere and talk to me.
