Momentarily intimidated by his sudden temper, Callie had to quiet down.
Tobias came in to tend to Callie. When he tried to continue her IV drip, she pulled her hand back abruptly. “Tobias, sorry, but I think I’m fine now. I want to be discharged immediately.”
Tobias instinctively looked at Nelson for guidance.
He knew now that with Nelson here, Callie’s decision didn’t matter.
Callie stared defiantly at the man. “I have a lot to do. I’m not as fragile and pretentious as Mr. Oconnor thinks.”
Nelson’s expression turned cold. “Fine, but you’ll probably vomit and faint as soon as you step out.”
Callie felt a lump in her throat because she indeed still felt nauseous.
“With no job, what do you need to be busy with?”
Callie glared at him. The atmosphere was tense. Tobias tried to mediate, “Callie, there’s no rush. Finish the IV first, then you can be discharged.”
Seeing Callie stop moving, he quickly reinserted the needle into her vein. The sudden pain made Callie groan involuntarily.
The area where the needle had been was already bruised.
She didn’t see it, but Nelson frowned and cast a reproachful look at Tobias.
Callie lay back on the bed, closed her eyes, and pretended to sleep. She didn’t want to see or speak.
Her phone kept vibrating in her pocket, but she didn’t dare answer it.
“What’s wrong? Are you troubled?” A familiar breath suddenly brushed against her face, warm fingers caressing her cheek like a snake. She shivered uncontrollably. “You’ve been with me for so long, and you still don’t know how to handle unexpected situations?”
It was him!
He knew Shamar would be affected and did this on purpose.
The man’s large hand suddenly withdrew. “Here’s a suggestion: go to the media and announce our marriage. Maybe the Scott Group will be saved.”
The news that the mysterious woman married to Nelson was Callie would be explosive. Using the media and public opinion would push the atmosphere to a climax.
After what felt like half a century of silence, Callie finally opened her eyes and retorted, “I’m not like you. I won’t use marriage for publicity.”
Nelson’s face remained cold and expressionless.
“You accuse me of using marriage for publicity? You have no right to say that.”
She stiffened slightly.
He took out his phone, answered a call, and walked out of the room. His cold and stern back seemed to say that he had come here today to give her a chance. Since she didn’t accept it, he wouldn’t show mercy.
He didn’t see the darkness in her eyes when he mentioned going to the media.
If Nelson’s marriage news broke out, it would mean all his previous protection of her would disappear.
Callie took a deep breath, unsure of what the deep-seated oppression in her heart meant.
She scrolled through her contacts for a long time, unable to find a suitable person. Finally, she nervously called Regan. When Regan answered, she sounded surprised, “Callie?”
“Can you come to the hospital and pick me up?”
Callie couldn’t believe that in the vast city of Ylosea, she had no reliable friends to turn to.
Everyone she knew was somehow connected to Nelson.
Soon, Regan appeared in the VIP ward. Seeing Callie covered in injuries, she was startled. “Goodness, where did you get into a fight?”
