Callie didn’t expect to see Tobias again under such circumstances.
He wore white clothes, maintaining his usual professional and gentle demeanor. Seeing her awake, he gently pressed her stomach, “Does it still hurt here?”
Seeing him, Callie felt embarrassed. She raised her arm to cover her eyes, speaking softly, “A little.”
Tobias’s expression froze as he looked at the man waiting outside the ward. Nelson’s eyes were dark and deep, making it hard to discern his thoughts.
Tobias whispered, “You fainted because you were too tired. Your body is weak. You need to take care of yourself. The vomiting is due to irregular eating. I’ll prescribe some medicine. Rest well and eat light.”
As Tobias turned to leave, Callie grabbed his coat, “Tobias, when can I leave here?”
She still had an IV drip in her wrist.
“After another bottle of nutrient solution.” He adjusted the drip speed and asked, “What’s wrong? Did something happen?”
Callie gave a bitter smile and nodded in acknowledgment, “Since you examined my body, you should have guessed a lot.”
The wound on her waist left a scar that hadn’t fully healed.
She deliberately didn’t use the ointment Ben gave her, wanting to remember this humiliation herself.
Tobias pursed his lips. He had seen Nelson rush in with the unconscious woman, his eyes dark and terrifying, causing Tobias’s heart to skip a beat.
He unbuttoned Callie’s clothes, revealing bruises and kiss marks in some places, along with the scar on her waist. He could guess what had happened.
Nelson’s voice sounded above him, “Tobias, you’re her friend. I can trust you, right?”
Tobias swallowed his bitterness and simply responded with a hum.
Jaquan and Karlie had also followed. If Jaquan hadn’t seen Nelson’s anxious expression while holding Callie, he couldn’t have imagined it was the same person who ruthlessly attacked the stock market.
“Let’s go.” Jaquan squeezed the woman’s soft hand, his gaze distant, “Let them handle their own matters, okay?”
Karlie’s eyes were amber, like a cat’s, “Okay.”
“Do you have to work late tonight? Father wants us to come home for dinner.”
She held Jaquan’s hands, noticing his cold demeanor again, her eyes carrying a hint of pleading.
The man’s smile didn’t reach his eyes as he stroked her chestnut hair, “Alright, I’ll take you home first.”
“I’ll wait for you at home, and then we’ll go together in the evening.”
Jaquan indulgently accepted this arrangement, “Don’t overwork yourself. Rest well.”
Callie slept for a while. Not hearing any sounds for a long time, she thought everyone had left. She finally removed her stiff arm from her eyes and slightly opened them, only to see a man with a frosty expression standing by the bed, staring at her intensely.
Callie showed a startled expression but quickly returned to indifference.
Nelson seemed to guess her thoughts and calmly said, “You were the one holding onto my coat, not letting me leave.”
Callie was stunned. Seeing his unchanged expression, it didn’t seem like he was lying.
“Thank you.” Her expression remained unchanged, “You are no longer needed here.”
Nelson raised an eyebrow slightly, “Kicking me out after you’ve served your purpose? Is this how you treat your savior?”
Callie felt irritated. She hated his mocking tone. Besides, what savior? If it weren’t for him, she might not have fainted.
She simply got out of bed and pulled out the needle herself. If he wouldn’t leave, she would.
Callie had only taken a few steps when she realized she had pulled out the needle too forcefully. Blood spurted out, covering her hand.
Startled by the blood, the man took two steps forward and without a word brought her to the bathroom to clean up. He then rang the bell for Tobias to come in.
Callie struggled impatiently, “Let go of me.”
He forcefully pressed her down on the bed, showing hidden anger, “Don’t move!”
