Callie was terrified as she stepped back instinctively. “It really is you. You conspired with Skye to slander me!”
“Only now do you realize? It’s a miracle Nelson even noticed you!” Cora shoved her hard. Callie lost her balance and fell, scraping her elbow.
Enduring the pain, Callie looked up at her. “Why are you doing this? Even if you can’t have Nelson, you’re still his special assistant. Isn’t that enough?”
“Thanks to you!” Cora’s sore spot was hit. She grabbed a rope and lashed it across Callie’s body, the sound of flesh tearing made her excited. “If it weren’t for you, Nelson wouldn’t have sidelined me. I wouldn’t have lost my position as his assistant! Callie, you’re really something.”
Callie winced from the pain, tears streaming down her face. She gasped, realizing Nelson had stripped Cora of her assistant role. No wonder she was so extreme.
“Have you ever thought that maybe Nelson tolerated your overstepping many times? You didn’t cherish the chances you had, and no one forced you!”
She hadn’t expected Cora’s obsession with Nelson to be so intense.
Cora’s face turned red. She shook her head with a cold smile. “Before you appeared, he and I were always in sync. No one in this world was more in tune than us. But after you came, everything changed…”
Her mental state seemed unstable as she swayed.
“Callie, you took away his love for me!”
With that, Callie received another lash, the pain unbearable.
Cora turned around and looked at the scene outside where everything was coming back to life. She sighed. “The first time I met Nelson was in the spring. He smiled and asked me if I wanted to be his assistant.”
Recalling that moment, her smile softened. “If nothing had gone wrong, he would have married me eventually! Callie, he would have married me!”
Callie remained indifferent. “Lunatic.”
“You’re the lunatic!” Cora’s hair was disheveled as she squatted down and grabbed Callie’s face. “If he didn’t care about me, why did he ask you for the recorder? He was protecting me, Callie. Between you and me, he chose me!”
“Stop dreaming. He didn’t choose you at all!”
This matter had always bothered Callie deeply, like a scar in her heart. But for some reason, she felt Nelson wasn’t doing it for Cora.
She wasn’t significant enough.
However, this statement enraged Cora. She pushed Callie away with a cold laugh. “Today, I’ll see if you’re worth anything to him!”
What did she mean? Had she informed Nelson?
Callie quickly glanced at Marilyn, who was forced to kneel nearby. A bad feeling surged through her. “What are you going to do? This is between us; don’t involve others!”
“Watch closely. She’s not just anyone.” Cora lifted Marilyn’s pale face with her high-heeled shoe. “Watch closely, and see if Nelson chooses you or her.”
Callie’s heart raced in panic. Cora had gone mad and was taking extreme measures.
“She’s the only daughter of the Ellison family. If something happens to her, you’ll pay with your life!”
“Do you think I’ve come this far and still care about my life?”
A desperate person, Callie ignored her pain and shouted, “Marilyn, wake up!”
But Marilyn remained motionless. Cora smirked triumphantly. “Don’t waste your energy. I gave her an anesthetic; she won’t wake up.”
“Cora!”
