Cade was wondering if it was a bad idea if he did not agree to go meet his mom after he had discovered that she was the one. He was feeling an array of mixed emotions, and he did not know how to face the situation. He wanted to face his grandfather about it and scream at his mom for leaving him in such a cruel family to fend for himself and for up so quickly that it hurts.
“Mr. Vale,” a choice from the room, brought him back to reality.
“Yes, Sue?” Cade said, raising his head to meet the eyes of the woman standing in front of him. He had not even noticed when she had waltzed in and stood there.
“The chairman is coming in and his first stop is here.”
“Here?” he asked and she followed with a nod and a murmur of yes, sir. “Why?”
“I am not sure about it, sir but it seemed like it has to do with the firing and rehiring of some personnel members working with you.” The news had gotten to Sue and even though she knew she would not be able to stay with Cade after this, she hoped that Charles would consider and not let her go; she would have to go down on her knees if it had to come to that.
“Huh, that is strange,” Cade said, looking at the office. He had been doing fine with managing his staff so why did his grandfather want to stick his nose so suddenly into the matter? “It is fine though; let me know as soon as he comes in. I want to greet him at the front door.”
“I will keep you updated about that and also, you keep getting a call from one, Ms Valerie What should I do about her?”
“Tell her I will call her as soon as I discuss it with my wife,” Cade said that to make the situation sound less bad than it was. He was confused and even though Ophelia had told him to go in and see her, maybe she had the perfect explanation for what happened; he was too afraid to do anything like that. had
“Okay sir”
“Is there anything more you would like to tell me?” Cade asked and she shook her head. It was best if he heard about her resignation from Charles and not him. If Charles told him, then he would not have a hard time accepting it, and he would not think of going head-to-head with Abigail. It was clear that she was the one behind it; her dimwitted son would not have any obtaining cell to be able to plan something as grand as this.
“No, sir, that would be able.”
“You are dismissed.”
Cade waited for his grandfather to come; after speaking with him, he was going to ask Ophelia to come with him to go meet Valerie. He had taken her number and set up a meeting at the police station; for him, that was the only safe place where he could get to talk to her without feeling afraid. They would ask for a private investigation room and then he would hear what she had to say. Why she left when he was a child and why she was resurfacing now that he was an adult.
“Granpa, did you need to come all the way here?” Cade asked, ushering him into the room with his assistant pushing the chair.
“If you want to win the battle, you must go to the field and fight them yourselves,” Charles said, and they both burst into laughter. “Leave us,” Charles ordered, and all of the entourage who came with him began to file out. “Sue you stay,” she said before she could slip out of the room.
“Yes, sir,” she said, standing in the corner.
“So what brings you here today?” Cade asked, sitting down.
“To see you, since you got married, it became a pleasure to see you.”
“I thought that was what you wanted when you pushed me out for a blind date.”
“Are you glad though? You found someone as special as her, and together you would control two major corporations,” Cade rolled his eyes. It was slow business with his grandfather anyway. He still had to find a way to turn this into a business venture. “I am here today for a very important reason,” Charles said finally, and Cade sat on the edge of his seat, ready to hear why he had made the trip here when he could just call him over.
“Sue,” Charles said, turning to her as she stood quietly in the corner. “You have to stop working for Cade immediately.”
“Yes, sir,” Sue said like she was being told to go on a break.
“What? Grandpa, what are you doing? Why are you firing my assistant?”
“I am not firing her; I am reassigning her with probation in her new role.” Sue felt like screaming appreciation in the air; at least she still had a job to her name. She thought they would discard her after she had spent all the time in her life serving their family.
“And why? Why are you doing this? Sue and I have established a working relationship, and there is no reason why we should not continue working together.” Cade said ready to go head and neck to stop whatever his grandfather was trying to do.
“Evidence against her was brought, and I am afraid that it might affect you, so I have to do the needful as a grandfather and as the chairman of this company. It is either she goes or you go down with her.” Charles was being as harsh as he could because he knew that was the only way he would listen.
“Someone is setting her up, isn’t it?”
“Yes, but we have to make sure you are safe first.”
“I guess I have to find a new assistant.”
“I already found one for you.”
“You did?” Cade was marvelled at how detailed he was.
“Yes, of course,” he said before turning to the door and yelling “Coem in.” The door opened, and dressed in a smart suit, Hstper walked in with a smile on her face. Cade could not trust his eyes so he closed it and opened it again multiple times but she was still standing there.
“Good day, Mr Vale I am…”
“Harper?”
