Adams’ POV
“How did she come back and through where?” I asked, snapping, completely astonished and flabbergasted. I tried to understand what he was saying, but it was very surprising.
“I don’t know how or where, Your Highness,” Ronan replied, with shock evident on his face.
I pulled up the horse’s rein to make it go faster, and it trotted back home without informing him. He tried following me immediately but his horse was giving him a hard time and I couldn’t wait for him as I wanted to be sure Lilith was really home.
What could have happened? And how did she get back because I’m sure she wasn’t there and the absence of her scent confirmed so?
I got to the mansion gates and the guards opened the door immediately, letting us in, and my horse was moving too fast, so I pulled the reins of the horse to stop it.
I got off the horse before it would even stop, and I rushed up to my room to be sure if Ronan was right.
Opening the door, and she was really there sitting on the bed staring into thin air looking very lost, I closed the door and walked towards her.
She looked at me and called me, “Adams!” I walked up to her in a second, and wrapped her in my arms.
“What happened to you? Where did you go? And how did you get back here?” I asked, eager to get answers to my questions.
“I decided to come and join you downstairs, and to get a glimpse of what the visitors wanted. But when I got to the stairs, I met you there, and you suggested we go to a special place outside the mansion, a place you usually went to as a child.”
“So I followed you out and a horse was already there, which was very strange, but I thought it was all your arrangement, because he smelt and looked exactly like you.”
“He looked like me?” I asked, wondering who that might be.
“Yes. But when I wanted to get on the horse’s back, I felt a pinch, and I fell down on my knees. Then everything became blurry as I drifted into unconsciousness. A face of a woman smiling really wildly came into view.”
She paused before continuing, “They were taking me away out of the mansion but one of them asked for me to be taken back, and I don’t know why, but I found myself on this bed before you opened the door,” she explained, sounding very frightened.
“Shush, it’s okay. You are fine and that’s all that matters. I will get to the root of this, and make sure I find them,” I said, and Ted’s anger was brewing. I had to suppress him.
So I pulled her more closely to my body, soothing her, but she was still looking into the thin air like she was looking at something, leaving me stunned.
“I’m just trying to know who they were? And what they came for and why they came specifically for me. I’m not that scared, but I’m just worried,” she said.
“Don’t worry about it, I will handle it. Just lie down and take a deep breath, so you can calm your mind.”
“But you need to eat. A maid will bring something light for you. I will be back shortly, I need to know who those intruders were,” I said, getting more aggravated, and fueling Ted’s diminishing anger.
She nodded, but as I was about to step out, I couldn’t take the risk of leaving her alone in the room again, so I went back.
“Lilith, stand up. You are following me. I can’t leave you after what happened this night,” I said. She looked at me before nodding as she stood up on her feet with my aid. And we went out.
As we stepped out, Ronan was waiting for me at the end of the stairs, but I walked past him and went to my office, holding Lilith’s hand.
Lilith sat down on the sofa facing me and I sat down on my chair with Ronan standing looking at Lilith intently.
I cleared my throat intentionally to make him stop staring at her. He looked back at me, bowing his head.
“I want more guards to protect her, and they should always stay around her day and night. While two should stay on the balcony. I don’t want anything bad to happen to her else, someone will pay with their heads,” I threatened, and Ronan nodded.
“Secondly, we need to find out who those men were and why they brought her back? And that pit needs to be checked to know if it’s really there or a facade.” I added.
“Yes, my King. But what did the Queen say about those men that came for her?” I scowled at him, he muttered apologies and left.
“There was no need to be rude to him, you should have explained or told him to wait,” she said, frowning her face as she did.
I looked at my weakness in a beautiful human form and I shook my head, knowing fully well that if it were someone else, the person’s head would have been rolling on the floor.
Ted wasn’t even getting annoyed at what she said, and I scoffed. Trying to round up my paperwork took a longer time than I expected, and Lilith was already sleeping on the couch in an uncomfortable position.
So I stood up, walked towards her and gently made her to lay properly in a more comfortable position, smiling at how cute she looked while sleeping.
Going back to my desk, I continued my paperwork for a few more hours. When I got to more than halfway through the pile of workload, I got exhausted, so I decided to call it a day.
I carried her up in my arms, taking her back to our room, dropping her on the bed. All through, she didn’t even move a muscle.
She opened her eyes when I was going to the closet to get dressed, and she stood up looking at my back.
“I can feel your eyes on me,” I said, smirking, but she didn’t say anything, so I turned back, coming face to face with a man on a cape on the balcony facing my direction, before disappearing into thin air.
I walked quickly to the balcony and the guards there were lying dead in their pool of blood with their eyes white.
Damm!! I went back to check for Lilith and I stopped in my tracks.
“I saw him stabbing them, and he was smiling at me.”
