Author’s POV
Lilith sat on the bed with tears running down her cheeks like a river, as she was trying to contain her fear. “What’s going on, goddess?” She muttered silently.
Adams rushed to her, sitting by her side. He pulled her to his chest, completely bothered about her welfare as she had seen a lot of violence in one night.
Lilith cleaned her eyes and she looked at him with her red – swollen eyes that made Adams’ heart ache in pain.
“We will have to be more careful and watchful, because the man intends to kill me, but because of your being there, he killed the guards as a warning,” she said to Adams. Though she tried to be strong and composed.
Adams nodded as he held her hand, gently taking her out of the room, and mind linking Ronan, who joined them immediately in his home office.
“Who could be behind all these mishaps? Ben?” Ronan paused, and continued, “I think, for the meantime, you may have to change your room. You shouldn’t stay in that room now,” Ronan said, after Adams narrated the incident that happened in their room to him.
By morning, the dead men were taken out for a proper burial while the room was cleaned, but they were not alone as the figure was watching everything that was happening with a smirk.
Though he had failed in killing the woman he was sent to kill, he was sure his master would be greatly pleased to hear what he had done, and how much fear he had instilled in the palace.
“I know, that’s what I said immediately you came in here,” Adams hissed, looking at Ronan angrily. Ronan moved back, knowing he was right, and in fear of Ted, recalling his previous experience when he made Adams feel wrong.
“And I don’t want anyone to know where we will sleep tonight, same as you. Don’t sleep in your room to avoid them getting you when they don’t find us as you will be their next target,” Adams added, pacing up and down the room thinking of how to deal with the present situation..
“I know they did not come for her, because she didn’t wrong anyone. The person wants to get to me by using her,” Adams said angrily. Ronan looked at Lilith, signaling her to stay close to Adams before Ted got out and did something crazy like usual.
Lilith walked to him gingerly, and placed her hand on his shoulder. Adams relaxed, immediately turning back to hold her.
“Calm down Adams, we will overcome them. I understand you are worried about your pack members that got killed, but worrying will not avenge their deaths, nor be satisfying to them even in their grave,” Lilith said.
“Fine, but as soon as it is morning, I’ll be going out to know who attacked you, and who killed them? I can’t let this happen, else Ben will use this as a leverage in his bid to get the throne from me.”
She nodded, and they went to bed with Ronan going somewhere else to sleep.
Augustus sat, staring down at one of his minions that was sent to kill Lilith, so he would be able to wreck Adams personally, but he failed, though he managed to create a bloody scene.
“I’m sorry, Your Highness, that we weren’t able to carry out your orders. The Alpha King spoiled our efforts.”
“We had to return her on your orders, so it would look like she was murdered in the palace. We are really sorry.” Their leader begged while they were all lying down flat.
“You are all absolutely useless. You couldn’t kill an ordinary Omega! How will you be able to kill the Alpha King himself, as you claimed you could?” Augustus roared, his angry voice booming, sending fear through the men’s veins.
“We are sorry, Your Highness. Spare our lives, and we promise to bring you their heads on a platter.
“Mercy is not in my diary,” he said, releasing fire on them, burning them up without any ounce of remorse.
He looked to his side and Ben was there, looking at him with a mortified expression. But he quickly covered it up with a smile that didn’t reach his eyes.
“You find what I did offensive?” Augustus looked at Ben, daring him to say otherwise. But he was wiser than to fall victim to the trap.
“Of course not, rather their cries were satisfying to my ear. Whatever you do is absolutely right, Augustus,” Ben replied, with his head stooped low.
Augustus looked at him, scrutinizing him, but Ben kept his head down hoping it would reduce his anger.
“Your brother is really upsetting me, and I need to get rid of him, else he might spoil our plans, which is the last thing I want,” he said, with flames around his head as his rage was getting more tense.
“What do you suggest I do? I’m ready to do whatever you want?” Ben said, bowing deeply in allegiance.
“Stop asking what I want you to do when you know that the only thing I want is your brother dead, and the power of the entire land belonging to me while you get your little pack as asked.”
Augustus made the Black Hound pack look small, whereas it was the biggest pack in the whole land, which was very important to him, though he would never admit that.
“It would be quite a task killing him or Lilith as he loves her more dearly than his own life,” Ben replied, lost in thoughts about what he should do to get rid of his brother. One thing he would never accept was Adams being the Alpha King, when he was way older than him, irrespective of what his brother Shane had said.
“I need a solution. A foolproof plan without any faults in it,” Augustus roared, and Ben shook his head before wondering what to say.
Staying in one’s pack and causing mishaps is a lot much easier and better. But this was harder and more demanding.
Ben was determined. Besides, he couldn’t give up now, not when he had almost gotten to his target. Giving up would be useless as he would look like a fool and be treated like a traitor.
He didn’t mind slaving here till he got what he wanted, so long he would get it in the platter of joy that he had been expecting.
“Ben!!!” Augustus roared, shaking the foundations of his roof with fear, pulling it off. Ben had never met someone as intimidating as him, but he hid his fear because the last thing Augustus hates is for someone to show fear in front of him. It pisses him off.
“I’m sorry Your Highness, I was lost in thought of a solution, my brother is a hard nut to crack. But I’m sure you are stronger than him, but we still have to tread with caution,” Ben replied, and Augustus burst off more in anger, and Ben bit his tongue.
“I am sorry for saying that. I know you are stronger than my brother. I was just stating how he is. I’m duly sorry.” If there’s anything Ben hates then it would be apologizing to someone. But he had to, even though his ego had been crushed by Augustus’ intimidation.
“Next time, keep your mouth shut if you don’t have anything important to say. Else, I won’t hesitate to pull off your head,” he said, making Ben’s clothes get wet with sweat gotten from fear.
Ben felt bad, but what he needed from Augustus was worth these embarrassments.
He kicked the air in annoyance as Augustus left the room.
He had relied on getting help from Augustus to overthrow his little brother, Adams, and here he was, being threatened to come up with a suggestion of how to eliminate Adams, or face his wrath.
As he sat on a chair looking out the room, despite all the brain cracking he had been doing, nothing was forthcoming, and he was frustrated.
Adams is really a hard nut to crack and it’s making him look like a fool in the eyes of Augustus. This made his hatred for Adams to burn more than before.
“I wish I could just turn his life off like a candle light,” Ben said, groaning, and slamming his fist into the wall in frustrations.
