Adams’ POV
Disturbances like that were sure to make me lose my temper. There had been too many things I had been planning to do with Lilith that night, only to have them all interrupted by the visit from the so-called important guests.
“This had better be worth it, Ronan.” I aired out all of my vexations to my Beta as I walked to the front entrance where he was probably waiting for me with the guests.
“They look pretty serious to me,” Ronan said to me as he was trying to keep me from getting too pissed, before I would hear them out.
I was soon standing in front of the men who were clothed in black robes with hoods which covered their faces partially. That was a bit suspicious as I was about to take them for spies. It was really hard to understand just what they could have been there for.
“Here they are, Alpha,” Ronan said as he pointed them to me while staring at them with a really unwelcoming gaze.
“And to what do I owe this unprecedented visit…?” I asked, without waiting for them to introduce themselves.
“Alpha King Adams…” one of them came forth with the demeanor of the leader of the group of four. “We appreciate your having us here. It’s quite a privilege to”
“Can you just beat it and cut to the chase? I have some other important matters to attend to at this hour.” And by important matters, I was envisioning the sight of Lilith waiting for me on my bed. At the moment, it was the most important thing to me.
“Oh… my apologies, Alpha…” he was stuttering immediately I had said that. “We are from a distant pack, and we have brought a message from our Alpha who insists on us keeping our names and the name of our pack a secret until we are sure that you are willing to hear us out.”
Ronan hit me with a cutting gaze that had me feeling like we had been conversing with some goofs who were not to be taken seriously. But then, I kept my cool to figure out if that meeting had actually been of any importance at all.
“So… what message does your Alpha have for me?” I asked, as I was hoping that I wasn’t wasting my time with a bunch of losers. “I don’t have all evening.”
“Right,” the leader of the band said as he turned to one of the men who were with him while he stood with his hand stretched out to his comrades. “The letter.?”
There was an uncomfortable silence which followed afterward. It was really hard for me to understand what that had all been about, as they looked like they were characters in some farce which I didn’t find funny at all.
“If this is some sort of joke to you, then I would have all four of you thrown out of here right now.” I let out my anger, as I didn’t want to spend the time I was meant to spend with my mate on those men.
I was already thinking of what sort of punishment would be much worse than having them thrown away, as they still stood there mumbling words among themselves. That was nothing to laugh about.
“What the heck do you mean you forgot the scroll with the message in it?” the leader asked, spelling it out as much as he could to my hearing.
“Get these men out of here right this instant!” I ordered in the heat of my anger, as I was hoping that she would still be in the mood for me by the time I would be back in the room. “What a waste of time.”
“Sorry about that. I thought they were really genuine from the way they had dressed up, like they were actually messengers from a pack. I apologize for interrupting your night’s rest,” Ronan muttered as he ordered the men to carry out the orders I had given them.
I let out a sigh as I went back into my room, which had been on my mind ever since. Lilith was surely going to be upset that I cut our time together short all because of some bastards that had come with a letter.
“Lilith,” I said her name as I paced impatiently to the door. Just as I was about to put my hand on the knob, I felt something leave me and I could soon realize at once that she wasn’t there.
I had lost touch with her like she had never been in the room all that time.
“No!” I tried to calm myself as I could feel Ted stirring up within me vigorously. That wasn’t going to turn out well, and that made me want to find out where she was off to. “No way!”
I could slowly feel Ted trying to take over the search for where Lilith could have been. It was a dreadful sight and I didn’t want to imagine it in any way.
There was a slow buildup of frustration as I was starting to perceive some faint traces of her scent which seemed to arouse Ted even more. He felt like tearing apart anyone who could have been behind all of it.
I followed her scent all the way out of the room, hoping that she was going to be found by the time I would follow that scent to wherever it led me to.
The trail led me all the way to the stairs and even down to the bottom of it. I followed harder until I got to the back entrance where her scent suddenly ceased to exist.
It was all feeling like I had been living in some sort of awful illusion that I wanted to snap out of by all means possible.
But the sight of horse trails had me realize the current reality that I was living in. My mate was nowhere to be found. She was gone.
“Alpha?” Ronan asked through the mind link as I reached out to him at once. “Is there a problem?”
“Stop those men from leaving!” I ordered angrily, as I spotted an object which looked like a dart which had her aura all over it.
At that point, it could not be mistaken. Lilith had been abducted, and those visitors had been used as the decoy for the abduction.
“Alpha…” Ronan stuttered over the mind link like he had seen a ghost. “The men are gone!”
