Layla and Kimber approached the building and were about to head towards the Ferrari when an Audi A4 pulled up, and Molly stepped out of the car.
“Ms. George, you came to check if our young lady is still alive, I presume?” Kimber said with hostility, snorting at Molly.
Molly’s already furrowed brow deepened even further as she couldn’t help but ask, “What do you mean by that?”
“What do I mean? Ha-” Kimber scoffed disdainfully and said coldly, “Our young lady already knows everything. What’s the point of pretending?”
“Go back and tell Flynn that his assassination attempt failed. The man in black fled in panic when he saw who our young lady was.”
“Did you really think anyone would dare target someone as esteemed as our young lady?”
“Flynn, that fool, to think he dared to hire someone to kill her-so stupid and wicked!”
“Flynn hired someone to assassinate?” Molly was momentarily stunned, then scoffed, “Although I haven’t known Flynn for long and he has many faults, I believe he would never stoop to such vile acts.”
“Besides, even if Flynn really wanted to kill Ms. Woods, he wouldn’t hire someone else to do it; he would do it himself!”
“So, stop trying to smear him with every dirty accusation.”
Flynn is a Great Grandmaster; killing Layla would be a matter of one move for him-why would he need help?
Moreover, his personality wouldn’t allow it. If he dislikes someone, he confronts them directly, without sparing any feelings.
If he wants to kill someone, he tells them plainly, not beating around the bush.
Just like today’s incident-Flynn gave Maximo four hours, and when the time was up, he went to kill him.
Straightforward-that’s what Molly admires about Flynn. Simple, direct, brutal!
“Do it himself? Does he even have the capability?”
“Our young lady is in the same realm as him; even given a whole day, he couldn’t kill her!” Kimber sneered with contempt.
She believed that the reason Flynn managed to save Rose and the others in the afternoon was due to the help of the man in black.
The six Semi-Grandmasters were also killed by the man in black.
“Go back and tell Flynn that his actions are despicable and a disgrace to men.”
“If he wants to fight, then he should do it openly and honorably, not resort to such filthy tactics, which only proves he’s a coward!”
With that, Layla climbed into the car.
“Our young lady is magnanimous and doesn’t want to stoop to arguing with someone as lowly as Flynn, otherwise, he wouldn’t survive until dawn!”
“Go back and tell Flynn, I despise him!” Kimber flipped Molly the middle finger and rolled up the car window.
The red Ferrari sped down the hill, leaving Molly dumbfounded.
Who did I provoke?
Even if Flynn wants to kill Layla, what does it have to do with me?
So they think I’m in cahoots with Flynn?
But I’m just here looking for clues about the King of Poison, not caring about some damn corporate battle!
Molly was utterly frustrated.
And Kimber infuriated her even more, daring to flip her off?
Such audacity!
If she wasn’t outmatched by Layla, she would have broken Kimber’s fingers!
Flynn is a bastard too!
He caused trouble with Layla, why should I take the heat for him?
Molly fumed and cursed as she unlocked her phone screen to search for that crumpled piece of paper.
“Miss, aren’t you going to retaliate after what Flynn did?” Kimber, sitting in the passenger seat, expressed her sympathy for Layla.
Layla, with a calm expression, replied, “Flynn’s mother owed a favor to the Woods family; I can’t act against that.”
“A favor?” Kimber looked surprised.
Layla responded lightly, “Yes, when I was one year old, Flynn’s mother cured my father’s asthma.”
“It’s for that reason, to repay the favor, that my father arranged my engagement to Flynn.”
Kimber was taken aback.
26 years ago, before she was even born, she naturally had no knowledge of the incident.
She was unaware of the connection between the Woods family and Flynn.
“Oh, by the way, my father still doesn’t know that I called off the engagement. When you come back to the Woods family with me, make sure not to spill the beans,” Layla said with a hint of helplessness flashing across her face.
“Huh? The head of the Woods family doesn’t know?” Kimber was again surprised, and asked with a puzzled look, “Miss, do you mean that the head of the Woods family disagrees with your decision to break off the engagement?”
“But ten years ago, wasn’t it he who persuaded the Clark family to send Flynn to prison?”
“Logically, since he did that, he must dislike Flynn.”
“Why would he disagree with the engagement being called off now?”
Ten years earlier, Flynn had created a scandal at the Clark family’s expense, attacking Tessa Watson. Not only did the head of the Woods family not help, but he also encouraged the Clark family to incarcerate Flynn.
This indicated that the head of the Woods family did not like Flynn.
Disliking him yet not allowing his daughter to break off the engagement was utterly illogical and contradictory.
“I don’t know either, and I prefer not to dwell on it,” Layla said coldly. “I’ve helped Flynn twice before, repaying his mother’s kindness.”
“We owe each other nothing now.”
“If I had any pity for Flynn over the past two months, after today, I will no longer show him any mercy.”
“Even if he begs on his knees in the future, I will not save him!”
“Flynn has always wanted to use Rose to embarrass me, right? Fine! Let’s see how he tries to embarrass me when billions of dollars are at stake!”
Kimber expressed some concern: “But what if Rose has a strong backer?”
At this, Layla’s brow furrowed suddenly, realizing the problem indeed.
Today, it was clear that Cruz was not Rose’s backer, but over the past two months, the Sharp’s Group had grown rapidly, which couldn’t be just Rose’s doing; she must have a powerful person behind her.
Who could it be?
Could it really be Flynn?
As this thought emerged, Layla shook her head and chuckled self-deprecatingly.
The recent major moves by the Sharp’s Group indeed had Flynn’s involvement.
But apart from being skilled in martial arts, he was hardly competent at anything else. How could he possibly sustain the Sharp’s Group?
Besides, if Flynn were truly capable, would Madeline have divorced him?
Right!
Madeline, as Flynn’s ex-wife, might know some secrets of the Sharp’s Group.
With this thought, Layla obtained Madeline’s phone number.
After dialing, Layla got straight to the point: “Ms. Woods, with the Sharp’s Group making frequent major moves, and you being a partner in the three-family alliance, if you know any insider information, please tell me.”
Madeline hesitated, then said with a bitter smile, “My two hundred million dollar investment in Acebegron Clear Relief went down the drain, and now with Braiden dead, I guess I’m hardly a member of the alliance anymore.”
Layla paused briefly, then said coolly, “If you know the insider information and tell me, I promise to return your two hundred million in full after I win this commercial battle!”
Who was behind Rose was crucial for the upcoming events. Two hundred million for this information was well worth it for Layla.
“Two hundred million returned in full?” Upon hearing this, Madeline was momentarily stunned.
“That’s right, I, Layla, keep my word!”
Madeline gasped in surprise, her heart stirring with excitement.
In her view, even with Nathan’s help, Rose couldn’t win against Layla’s powerful three-family alliance.
Given the Fletcher family’s strong military and political connections, their commercial networking was incomparable to Layla’s.
This meant that whether she disclosed the information or not, Rose’s side was doomed to lose.
With Layla’s assurance, Madeline had no reason to refuse and cryptically revealed:
“Actually, Rose’s backer is Nathan!”
