Chapter 603: Madeline’s Imaginings

“Nathan? The legitimate heir of the Fletcher family?”
Upon hearing Madeline’s words, Layla’s expression turned to one of surprise.
Madeline continued, “Yes, Ms. Woods, you were mistaken last time. The person you saw at Thodell Mansion wasn’t the God of War; it should have been Nathan.”
“Ms. Sharp herself admitted that it was the big shot living at Thodell Mansion who helped her.”
“I myself have seen Nathan at Thodell Mansion, locking the main gate at that time.”
Hearing this, a hint of suspicion flickered in Layla’s eyes as she thoughtfully said, “But I’ve never seen Nathan have any substantial contact with Rose.”
Madeline smiled and said, “Ms. Sharp, from what I’ve gathered, Nathan does not wish to get deeply involved in this matter, he only offered his network for support.”
“You must also be aware that among the investors in the Sharp’s Group, Nathan’s name is not listed.”
“This indirectly indicates that Nathan’s involvement is casual and he doesn’t want to be conspicuous, hence he approached Flynn to act as his spokesperson in the Sharp’s Group.”
Madeline was about to discuss the matter of the land at Ponocord Bay.
But considering Nathan might become her man in the future, she felt it inappropriate to expose his secrets, thus she did not continue.
In Madeline’s mind, the Fletcher family had good official connections. It was not difficult for Nathan, through the Governor or Mr. Richardson, to have early information about the development plans for Ponocord Bay, then purchase that land.
Nathan, fearing public criticism of collusion between the government and business, had Flynn step in to handle the acquisition.
This was also one of the reasons Nathan preferred to remain behind the scenes.
However, Madeline dared not speak openly, fearing it might disadvantage Nathan.
Moreover, she believed that before the development of Ponocord Bay, Flynn persuading the Kaur family not to sell the land was also under Nathan’s directive.
Of course, out of his affection for her, Nathan would never explicitly ask Flynn to assist him.
The scene must have been-
Nathan: “Flynn, I heard your wife’s family bought that plot of land at Ponocord Bay. Considering all you’ve done for me, I’ll let you in on a secret.”
“Ponocord Bay is about to appreciate in value, make sure not to sell it.”
Flynn: “Master, have you heard some insider news?”
Nathan: “I’ve heard from Mr. Richardson that Ponocord Bay is soon to be developed into a resort area, and the Kaur family’s land will significantly increase in value.”
Seeing Nathan care so much for the Kaur family, Flynn kneeled down, overwhelmed with gratitude, swearing to be Nathan’s loyal servant for life.
Yet Nathan smirked to himself, cursing inwardly: “You fool, I’m not telling you this for your sake, but for Madeline’s.”
“Just wait, once Madeline realizes all I’ve done, she’ll be moved, fall for me, and then I’ll kick you aside and confess my love to her!”
A few days later.
Flynn: “Master, I’ve advised the Kaur family several times, but they won’t listen and insist on transferring the land.”
Nathan: “Forget it, if they won’t listen, then I’ll buy it.”
“Keep an eye on that land for me with Rose for now. When the time is right, we’ll transfer it to my name.”
Then, Nathan thought: “It doesn’t matter if the Kaur family doesn’t want the land now; I’ll buy it and later gift it to Madeline.”
“Flynn, you fool, before I confess to Madeline, I’ll definitely liquidate that land and use it as a dowry for her!”
In Madeline’s eyes, this was absolutely the case! Her heart stirred with emotion.
Recalling Nathan’s previous help, her heart warmed, and a blush spread across her face.
She hadn’t realized Nathan loved her so deeply, going out of his way to assist her.
If it weren’t for Flynn as a stumbling block, he probably would have confessed to her by now.
It was all her father’s fault for bringing Flynn into their home, making things so difficult for Nathan.
“Alright, I understand. Thank you, Ms. Kaur. Once I win this business battle, I will return the two hundred million dollars in full.” After hearing Madeline’s explanation, Layla hung up the phone, deeply convinced by her words.
The Fletcher family, as a clan of the Eahta, though not top-tier, had a few ancient medicinal formulas, which was not unusual.
Nathan was Mr. Price’s apprentice, and having Mr. Price make an appearance was also not a big deal.
With the Fletcher family’s resources, getting a few entertainment companies and some Western celebrities to endorse them was well within the realm of possibility.
All of these things corroborated the fact that Rose was Nathan’s accomplice.
“Nathan has indeed been in Niarak recently, and he even came to Niarak today. Could all the events in Northview, including the men in black, be his doing?” Kimber frowned.
At 8 p. m., Lilia called Layla and detailed the incidents that had occurred in Northview.
Braiden mentioned that they had not killed Flynn because agents from the National Security Bureau, along with eight Grandmasters, had shown up in Northview to pursue the Black Mamba Assassins.
It was likely that among the eight Grandmasters, there was at least one at the peak level, given the capabilities of the National Security Bureau, which wouldn’t find it strange to have a Great Grandmaster in their ranks.
Kimber thought Nathan had nothing to do with Flynn and had merely helped him by mistake, allowing Rose and the others to escape a calamity.
After hearing what Madeline said, she suspected that the recent assassination attempt might also have been arranged by Nathan.
Layla shook her head and said, “From what I know of Nathan, he is not the conniving scoundrel type.”
Kimber still had her doubts: “The corporate wars involve profits of hundreds of billions of dollars.”
“With so much money at stake, it wouldn’t be surprising if Nathan resorted to underhanded tactics.”
“After all, you’re the leader of the tri-alliance. Only if you were gone would Nathan have a chance to win.”
The Fletcher family, although part of the Eahta conglomerates, was not top-tier. Only Nathan’s father, a deputy minister at the National Security Bureau, was noteworthy, making their family less prominent than the super-conglomerates.
Compared to ordinary wealthy families, the Fletcher family was esteemed, and even more unreachable compared to smaller families like the Kaur family.
But to Layla, there was no difference between the Fletcher family and Cruz’s Brooks family.
Just like the difference between a tiger and a wolf, Layla was the tiger, and the Fletcher family, the wolf.
After all, Layla, with her extraordinary medical skills, had saved many conglomerate leaders.
Even the owner of the Wakasa conglomerate, who had been helped by Layla, was involved this time.
Thus, if the Fletcher family wanted to profit from this corporate war, they had to eliminate Layla.
Layla smiled faintly and said, “Kimber, you’re thinking too deeply into this.”
“Just as Madeline said, Nathan’s help to Rose was merely playful.”
“Nathan, who is set to inherit the leadership of the Fletcher family, needs brilliant achievements to convince others.”
“Young people from such families usually seek to prove themselves through corporate investments.”
“Imagine if Nathan, by investing in the Sharp’s Group, could topple the tri-alliance. What a huge news story that would be! It would bring him great honor.”
“Braiden, at 20, made his name by successfully investing in three companies without relying on his family’s connections, earning hundreds of millions.”
“Nathan is following in Braiden’s footsteps; he is eager for success but not reckless.”
“He is still young, and even if his investment in the Sharp’s Group fails, it wouldn’t be a loss for him; he could just find another target!”
“Think about it, if Nathan had me killed to win, what would happen once the news got out?”
“Not only would it not help his rise to power, but the Fletcher family, under pressure, would even demote him to a commoner!”
“But Nathan is too confident. Mr. Fletcher wouldn’t dare to treat me as an equal, let alone his grandson! For Nathan, this investment can only end in failure.”
After Layla’s explanation, Kimber suddenly understood and said, “Miss, are you suggesting that scions of powerful families like Nathan invest not just to make money, but primarily to gain reputation?”
Layla smiled and pinched Kimber’s cheek, saying, “Exactly, you’ve caught on!”
Kimber blushed with joy.
She felt that Layla’s stature in her heart had grown even taller, amazed at how much her lady knew and how analytically she spoke.
She had not expected to learn so much by following Layla.
She felt that if she spent a few more years with Layla, in time, if she started her own company, she would definitely carve out a renowned name for herself in the business world.
To her, Layla was a seasoned life mentor, teaching her many things.
