The food Jaxon and Ruby were having for dinner didn’t sit well with Ruby. Nothing seemed to entice these days. She was really nauseous and if she took another bite, she was sure she was going to throw it all up.
Her stomach was basically at her throat so eating had become quite the hassle. And the pain she was feeling didn’t help her feel any better.
“Something wrong with the food?” Jaxon asked, a brow raised as he popped a piece of meat into his mouth.
“Everything is.” She sighed. She had been pushing the food around her plate for a few minutes now.
“So you want something else?… Are you okay, you look a bit unwell, is it the meat?” The space between Jaxon’s brows furrowed as he asked her.
“It’s not… Maybe… I don’t know. I’m just feeling a bit of pain in my stomach.” She told him, and as if to make a point, a sharp pain stung just below her belly button and she leaned over and expelled a deep breath.
“Gem?” Jaxon’s voice wobbled out.
“Just… Give me a moment.” She took deep breaths to try to override the pain she was feeling. In, out, in, out, she told herself. She had broken out into a cold sweat just as Jaxon pushed back from his chair.
“Is it the baby? Should I take you to the hospital?” He asked and she shook her head. They had had plenty of scares already and the doctor had told them it was normal and that nothing would happen to her.
“I’m fine, I just need to let the pain pass.” She let out.
Jaxon placed the back of his hand and felt her temperature.
“Ruby, you’re burning up.”
“I’m not, my body temperature just fluctuates a lot since I’m pregnant.” She explained. A lot of other things were fluctuating in her too.
She was as big as a whale now and that wasn’t a lie. She couldn’t see her feet anymore as her bump had done a good job of shading it from her eyes.
Her face had also taken a whole new shape as she gained weight from her pregnancy.
Jaxon had been lovely and told her that he loved her even more when he noticed all the minor and major changes going on in her body. But she did glimpse a bit of frustration in him when her sex drive went up and down like a wave.
Some days, she couldn’t rip her hands off of him, and others she didn’t even want to see him near her.
“Are you sure you don’t want me to take you to the hospital,” he asked again.
“No, we’ve already been to the hospital three times this week and the doctor said it was nothing.”
“But what if it isn’t?”
“It isn’t.” She gritted out,
“Now please go back to eating.”
Even as she said she was fine, she had to mentally convince herself that she believed what she was saying.
Jaxon settled in his seat across from hers and his gaze found hers immediately.
“Alright, we won’t go to the hospital yet but promise me that if the pain persists you’ll agree to go to the hospital.” He suggested. She didn’t think there was anything wrong with that.
“I promise.” She answered. As she spoke, she felt another twist of pain this time at the top of her stomach, but she hadn’t slouched in pain like before.
They went back to eating with Ruby trying her best to just brush over the pain.
They continued eating for another thirty minutes, well Jaxon did while she just pushed the food around her plate. He was almost done when she felt herself gush.
A blast of liquid rushed down her legs and Ruby gasped.
“Everything alright?” Jaxon’s eyes were immediately on her as she started to panic. She wasn’t supposed to go into labor so soon.
“Jaxon, I think I’m having the baby today, my water just broke.” Ruby let out as she looked down at herself. Jaxon’s eyes widened like saucers and he cursed.
“Shit! Are you sure?” His eyes had started to dart back and forth in silent panic.
“I am! Jaxon I wasn’t supposed to go into labor until next week!” The doctor had told them so but she guessed he was wrong.
“I know, I know, shit!”
Jaxon abandoned his nearly eaten plate of food and shoved his hands into his pocket, and Ruby assumed it was to get his phone.
“Ruslan, I don’t care where you are, I need you to be in the house latest in the next couple of minutes.” Jaxon fired the order down the line before rushing over to her side.
Ruby had started to feel dull contractions but it was nothing she couldn’t bear.
“Feeling any pain?” Jaxon asked, his eyes running over her in a short scan.
“Not really, I’m just feeling mild contractions.”
His mouth opened to ask her another question but the door slammed open and Ruslan’s bulky figure came into view.
“You called?” He said as he came over.
“Good, you’re here. Help me walk her to the car. I can’t carry her alone for fear that it might hurt her or the baby.” He explained as he threw her right arm over his shoulder.
Ruslan followed his lead and did the same thing on her left.
They were in the hospital in no time, and Ruby’s mild contractions had started to become more serious. Those damn breathing classes she had taken in the early stages of her pregnancy seemed to be the only thing helping her now.
She was rolled off to a private labor room as Jaxon suited up to come join her.
“You’re at 9cm and you will soon be able to push,” a Doctor said. Ruby was sweating so much and the pain she was feeling consumed her senses that she couldn’t register Jaxon standing beside the bed.
“Push!”
She didn’t waste time and started to push, it was an instinct that she couldn’t stop.
“Almost there.” She heard the doctor say again. Jaxon’s hands had inched to her shoulders and they squeezed.
She felt relief after a pop, and then a loud cry followed.
“It’s a girl!”
She still felt like pushing and did just that before the doctor announced there was one more baby.
Five minutes later, a twin cry, another girl the doctor had called filled the hospital ward, and Ruby sagged back in relief.
“You did so well,” Jaxon whispered and she smiled.
