Jaxon kept glancing at Ruby as he drove away from the graveyard. He felt helpless tad he watched the soft shaking of Ruby’s body as she cried.
She was looking away from him and Jaxon hated that. He didn’t want her to ever feel the need to hide her pain away from him. Ruby was staring out the window and Jaxon sighed softly as he placed a hand on her thigh.
“Gem, are you okay? Do you need something?” Jaxon softly asked and Ruby’s heart clenched as her crying reduced to small sniffles.
“I’m fine and I don’t need anything.” Ruby sniffled.
Jaxon’s heart felt heavy with the weight of Ruby’s sadness. He didn’t like seeing her sad even though he knew she needed to mourn her sister. He silently tapped her thigh with his hand, a silent display of comfort and support. He wanted her to know that he was there for her.
His eyes were filled with concern as he desperately thought of ways to ease her pain and make her happy. He was desperate to take away her pain. His heart was aching with the desire to make it all better and his forehead creased in concentration as he thought of ways to bring back
the lost sparkle in her eyes.
He wanted to ease her sadness. He thought of the right words to use to comfort her, the right gestures, anything that would bring back her lost smile.
His eyes glinted as he remembered a conversation they once had. A smile made its way to his face as he changed directions and drove towards the park.
Jaxon parked in the parking lot and Ruby was surprised when she got pulled out of her daydreams by screams. She looked out the window and she was surprised when she saw the rides up ahead. She turned to Jaxon with a questioning look and he replied with a soft smile as he unbuckled his seatbelt and got down from the car. He opened the door for Ruby and leaned forward to unbuckle her seatbelt.
“What are we doing here?” Ruby asked and Jaxon smiled as he cupped her face and gently wiped her tears. He placed a warm kiss on her lips and pulled away. Ruby felt sweet tingles going up her spine and she gave him a small smile as he helped her down and led her to the entrance of the park.
He intertwined their hands and they were walking when his eyes landed on a boutique just at the side. He looked down at their outfits and rolled his eyes at himself. How on earth did he think they could play or get on any rides with what they both had on?
“How about we get a change of clothes first Gem.” He smiled softly and they both walked into the boutique.
Jaxon walked towards the trousers sections and grabbed two black joggers in his size and Ruby’s size.
Ruby was looking around the shop when her eyes landed on a couple of shirts. One had the yin and Yang design and it completely captured her mind. She brought it to Jaxonabd he smiled in approval as they made payments and changed in the changing rooms.
Jaxon took Ruby to the gate and ran to the car to drop their clothes.
Jaxon paid for their entrance fees and purchased a bunch of tickets. Ruby stared at him wide-eyed as he held the tickets and turned to her with a sheepish smile.
“What game do you want to play first?” Jaxon asked. Ruby pointed at the skee ball machine.
Jaxon inserted the tickets and set it to two players. They started throwing the balls into the holes and Ruby glared at Jaxon as he expertly kept getting the balls through like an expert.
“Why are you so good at this? I feel like a loser!” Ruby whined and Jaxon smiled softly as he started to miss on purpose and Ruby smiled happily as she won the first round. They played again and Jaxon kept allowing her to win.
“Did you see that! I beat you.” Ruby excitedly said as they moved on to the next game.
“Don’t be sad, it’s just a game.” Ruby softly whispered to Jaxon.
Ruby happily held the bat as she tried to hit the balls that kept popping out of random holes on the board. She groaned when the first round ended with her getting only thirty points.
She handed the flippers to Jaxon and watched in admiration as he hit each ball. His movements were so fast and she felt proud when he hit the high score. She jumped like a high schooler and hugged him tightly.
Jaxon smiled in relief when he saw the joy radiating off her. This was what he wanted and he was glad his plan worked. Ruby’s eyes sparkled when she saw an ice cream shop and eagerly pulled him towards it. She smiled sweetly at Jaxon and he felt his heart flutter as he paid for the ice cream.
Ruby had a look of our bliss on her face as she slowly licked her vanilla ice cream. Her tongue swirled as she enjoyed the sweet treat and Jaxon found himself lost as he stared at her soft pink tongue.
“Do you want some?” Ruby stretched the cone towards his mouth and Jaxon took a small bite of the frozen treat as he stared deep into her eyes. Ruby smiled and retracted her hands with a shy smile.
“Let’s get on that ride.” Ruby shyly muttered and ran towards the twirling horses. Ruby was seated on the horse in front of Jaxon and she felt giddy as she licked her ice cream. The ride started and she turned to see Jaxon who had a blank stare. The children kept looking at him curiously and Ruby laughed when a boy stretched his hand and pinched Jaxon’s cheeks.
“You should have seen your face.” Ruby laughed softly as they walked around the park with their hands intertwined. They kept receiving looks of admiration but none of them paid any attention to the crowd as they had eyes only for each other.
They got in line for the Ferris wheel and Ruby felt giddy as they got on the ride. She intertwined their arms and tightly held onto Jaxon when the ride started. She screamed into his chest and Jaxon smiled softly as he tightened his arms around her. He ran his hand through her hair and gently pulled her head up when the ride came up.
Ruby’s eyes sparkled as she stared at the beautiful night view of the city from up there. She turned to Jaxon and pulled him into a sweet kiss. Their lips moved gently against each other as they both tried to show the other just how much they loved and cherished them.
Ruby felt elated. Her heart swelled with warmth and love as she gently pulled away and looked into Jaxon’s eyes which were filled with adoration.
Ruby didn’t know how she got so lucky but she wanted to remain in Jaxon’s arms forever.
That night they both had huge smiles on their faces as Jaxon drove home.
