Jaxon held Ruby’s waist as he led her through the graveyard. She tightly pressed her body into his as they passed various marble graves.
The place was well taken care of. She could tell from how clean the headstones looked, there was not a speck of dust, the lush green grass was properly trimmed and there were vibrant flowers around. A testament that it was a place where the rich and affluent were put to rest in splendor.
Jaxon stopped In front of a marble graveyard. It was gleaning under the sunlight and Ruby’s eyes burned when she looked at the headstone. She read her sister’s tombstone and tears started to fall from her eyes.
Ruby’s heart felt heavy with grief as she stood before Kimberly’s grave. She wasn’t expecting herself to feel so much sadness over the woman that tried to kill her.
She pulled away from Jaxon and walked closer to the grave. Her tears kept falling as she wept for her sister, she wept for the life she had lost, she wept for their relationship that had gone sour and she wished things didn’t end the way it did.
“Why?” Ruby asked softly as she cried.
“Why did you do it?” Her hands clutched her chest as she knelt before the grave. Sobs wracked her body and Jaxon watched silently as he stood behind her.
“What did I ever do to push you sir far? Why did you have to go so far?” Ruby angrily wiped her tears with the back of her hand but more kept coming. Ruby felt a storm brewing without her, she felt deep sorrow and hatred. Her mind was divided into two. She felt sorry for Kim but also thought that she deserved what she got. She was in pain at the loss of her sister but hated her for her greed.
“Why did you have to be so wicked towards the sister that raised you like you were her own child? Why did you have to stab me in the back? After all that I have gone through for you, why did you repay my good with evil? Where did you even learn all that?” Ruby’s eyes darkened with anger and betrayal as she cried uncontrollably. Her heart was bitter and her chest felt heavy. She had so many questions for Kim! She needed to know why she went so far.
“Why did you change so much? Why did you throw my love away? Is this what I deserve for loving and caring for you all these years? I always placed your needs above mine! I prioritized your well being above mine and worked tirelessly to give you the life you wanted but what did you do in return?” Ruby’s eyes were blazing in fury as she clenched her hands into fists. Her body was rigid as she thought about the betrayal she received from her sister.
“I hate you! I hate you so much! I hate you for being a selfish backstabber! You are evil! How could you be so greedy! After everything I had gone through for you, why couldn’t you allow me to live happily? Why couldn’t you be happy for me? Did I not deserve to have my own happy ending? So why did you do that to me Kim?” Ruby’s heart clenched in her chest as she ranted and cried. Jaxon could hear the pain she felt from her voice and words. He wanted to comfort her but knew that she needed that. She needed to cry her heart out. She needed to speak up, unsaid words will only make it worse.
“Why did you have to ruin everything? You have shattered my heart with your betrayal Kim. I thought you were my sister! I thought we had each other, I thought we were family… I thought you would be the happiest person to find out that I am doing so well and finally getting the love I deserved but you!
You tried to destroy everything! You tried to ruin me and even got my blood on your hands. How could you do that? I’ve always known you were a bit materialistic but I have never in my wildest dreams ever imagined that you would try to kill me to have your way.” Ruby’s mind is filled with unanswered questions, she felt a tight knot of anger and resentment building within her as she cried. It kept recurring to her that the sister she had sacrificed her whole life for had tried to kill her just so she could take her place. Was this really how wicked and selfish the human heart was? She wondered how Kim was able to forget all that she had done for her, did all her good deeds mean nothing to her? Ruby’s eyes burned as more tears streamed down her face.
“You are really cruel Kim. You forgot everything that we shared. All that we have gone through together because of your greed. How could one person be that selfish? Did you not learn anything from our parents? Did you even feel an ounce of guilt?” Ruby softly placed her hands on the marble grave and she felt goosebumps.
“Did you regret ruining our relationship and lives for your greed? Why did you allow your humanity to disappear? Why did you allow yourself to be filled with so much hatred when all I have done is love you genuinely?” Ruby cried as she ran her hands around the grave.
“I am so mad at you! I don’t know if I’ll be able to forgive you but I wish you happiness wherever you are. I will also be happy with my husband and unborn baby… I am pregnant now, I’ll be starting my own small family and this time around I won’t allow any negativity to creep in. I’ll make sure my home is filled with love.” Ruby softly smiled through the tears.
“Goodbye Kim.” Ruby softly whispered and stood up on shaky legs. Jaxon helped her and draped his suit jacket around her. He pulled her into his arms and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead.
